View Full Version : Sweetwater carwash new policy

Golfer222

Went to get car washed at Sweetwater at Trailwinds yesterday, There were no cloths in the trays at the vacuums to wipe down car. After walking to the office, I and others were advised that to get the cloths we had to leave our divers license, write down our name and phone number and the number of cloths we were using. After returning the cloths, we could have our license back.
Go there every few weeks and this is apparently their new policy.
I am not giving some kid i do not know my drivers license. They said it is due to the cloths being stolen. Needs to be a better way. Will not go back there

Unfortunately the policy has been in place for a month.

Those were always pretty tiny to wipe down the car...................they were for small spots.

How hard is it to have two rags in the car if you know you are going to wash the car

Wouldn't it be a better business decision to just sell the rags?

What's the big deal??? Bring your own cloth and you don't have to mess with anything. The problem with deposits is now you have accounting involved and someone has to manage cash, that's a bigger problem than leaving your license. It all comes back to personal responsibility. Keep an old clean towel in the car, behind the back seat..... After you use it, throw it in the wash and put another one back there. You can always use it. Looking at the picture provided, you can't always find a napkin in all of that so you can use it for that or spillage if it happens...

Could you imagine how many towels get stolen ever day? they have to have a policy to reduce that.

Absolutely untrue, in my opinion. I've been going there since the carwash opened, and noticed the lack of clean towels in the baskets.

BYOT!!! Yikes, much ado about nothing.

Would you rather have a general up charge of .50 for each wash to cover all the stolen/missing towels? Some businesses are hanging by a shoestring.

I always keep a small towel under the seat to clean windows and interior. And a bath towel in the trunk. It’s such a burden…. Be self sufficient.

What *would* you do to get the towel at the carwash?

What would you have the carwash do about the theft of the towels they used to provide?

Would someone please build a new Car Wash that does the entire job like the place near Walmart on 441 or The Villages Car Wash? It will be a Cold Day In Florida before I ever was my car again. I can remember being so excited when we first moved down here and I went to The Aquarius Car Wash, just remembered the name. They took our car that just survived the ride down here and put it in showroom condition. It was a disgrace. It was like I killed every bug on Route 95 on my own. The shame is they can't get workers anymore because the prices are so high that nobody tip's very well.

Whatever, when I need a good wash it's back to The Villages because it's worth the ride and they do a phenomenal job. I think prices start at $25.00 and it's worth every penny.

You know these rags they want my license for? They can take them and stuff 'em. That's enough! Now I'm upset. I'm with the OP 10,000 %. Great post OP! What ever happened to customer service?

Exactly my point- If you are paying for a car wash, you shouldn't have to get outside to finish the job. That was bad enough , but now they want to hold the towels that you should not even need. Dont mind paying more for a good job.

To each their own. I get it. I went past that Sweetwater Joint the other day and didn't have time to stop. We had an emergency trip to Sam's Club for Argentinian Red Shrimp. Three bags weren't enough! I got a quicky at Sam's for $7 bananas. Should have skipped it cause it was garbage. Live & Learn. I'm a Car Wash Fanatic. I want it done correctly. What do you want for seven bucks? A towel to finish drying the car? :boxing2:

I'm learning my way around down in these here parts. I'll say one thing for my new general neighborhood, far be it for me to stir the pot but the drivers down here are way more aggressive than in The Historic Section. I think there should be a Prozac Dispenser at every traffic light down here. Everyone breathe. You are going to get wherever you are aimed at sooner or later. Jeez!! :ohdear:

Sounds like they are going to the cruise line system...LOL ! Lots to consider here. Tend to agree with you that I'd not feel comfortable with anyone ("kid" or adult), just collecting a drawer full of DL's and yes, how does one know if they are being copied or not. SHOWING is one thing, collecting and keeping... not comfortable. Actually I'd be more comfortable with leaving $5, or even keys, over my DL. But they can require anything they want.... and there are so many car washes in the Villages, easy to find one where you are more comfortable ! I agree.

Yes, fact of life.... EVERYONE always pays the price for the lack of morality of the few, rather at the gym, or the grocery, at the pools on cruise ships and resorts. GONE are the days when the big, soft, fluffy, clean towels are piled high for guest to help themselves.

The Sweetwater car wash does a fairly good job for the money, however, their dryer leaves a lot to be desired. Car is left wet from front to back. You have to towel it off or you have water spots all over the car.

Get your car, suv, golf cart detailed by Gordon Hamm, inside and out. All proceeds go to charity ( the school system) and you pay what you think the job is worth. He will not ask for identification, just a donation. And he uses his own supplies ( towels included). Call him to make an appointment 352-396-8509. He is also a Village resident.

Take note of the sign that describes items that they are not responsible for. The small fin shaped item on the rear roof is not covered if knocked off. Strongly agree. Seems such a simple answer (and one that might help them retain, not loose, customers) to ask for an alternative to a D. L. SHOWING is one thing, asking to keep a D.L. out of the sight of the owner.... does not seem like a good policy when a $5, or several other options would do. But, everyone has the right to run their business their way !

And some people thought the cloths were theirs to keep. The other option is to raise prices more to cover the cost of the cloths and the labor to replenish them through out the day.

And then, we'll have people b*tchin' and moanin' that their prices are too high...

Thanks to the ingrates that steal the towels. Likewise to the dollar store greeting card buyers who have been stealing the envelopes so they had to remove them from the racks and keep them up front. Likewise to the people who get their roof for free so everyone now has to pay more insurance because of it. Bring back the pillory!

I use the touchless wash at Sam's Club for 7 dollars. The interior can stay dirty until I sell the car.

To me going to a great car wash and leaving with the vehicle spotless is worth the money. It is not worth sweating your whatever off to be outside sweating in this heat and humidity. Have you all lost your minds? BLTW = Break Loose Tight Wad! Go to a real car wash instead of these Playschool Joints.

Someone please, I’m begging give me a top drawer local MOBILE, IN MY DRIVEWAY DETAILER THAT YOU HAVE USED LATELY, I read the old posts. Don’t wanna be disrespectful or disappointed. Price is not an issue. I want a perfect job. If they do Golf Carts to that’s a plus. I thank you in advance. Mr. Spotless.

The guy I used in The Historical Section won’t make the trip south of 44. He thinks he needs a passaport to come down here. He wasn’t doing such a great job as he was not aging well and he wanted to use my towels and wouldn’t give me his license as security.

Please help with the Detailer, I’ll be eternally grateful! Thanks NUCKY!

I agree Sweetwater car wash is great! The unlimited packages are wonderful and if you want to get towels to use, the last couple times, I’ve been there they don’t need your drivers license, you can leave most anything sunglasses your keys and they’ll give them back when you return the towels. Throw one (or keep one in your vehicle) It’s much easier. And Sweetwater was the only car wash I’ve ever been to that even supplied them. Love that car wash and their unlimited wash plans.

I like their car wash it does a great job , but I’ve been puzzled about the towel issue . I guess all these years I’ve been going to wrong car washes because I don’t ever remember having access to towels to wipe my car down nor did I ever expect one . I’ve always kept a towel in my car to be ready anytime I want to wash it

My car turned six years old yesterday and in all that time the only car wash it has been to is at the dealership, where it went for complimentary oil changes the first two years. Otherwise, it's only been washed by pulling it out of the garage when raining. Lately that hasn't worked because of the drought. And, although I am relatively tall, I can't reach the roof of this SUV to towel it off and husband has been indisposed, so I am considering resorting to going to a car wash.

I guess it is a family policy to not spend money on car washes, since his car is 13 and hasn't been to a car wash either.

yes, me too. some washes don't come with the blow dry, though. i like the ceramic coat wash, comes with everything included

nothing like a good blow dry.

They can’t disclaim negligence no matter what the sign says. Sue in small claims court

And if they lose they will appeal then you will need to hire a lawyer to represent you in appeals court.

I would charge for the towel, with the option to return it for a refund or keep it.100% Agreed, but then of course there would be a 200 post topic about "Sweetwater is ripping us off selling (or renting) towels and I'll never go there again."

Last time I WASHED my own car (~2 yrs ago) I fell off a stepladder while drying the roof and literary broke my arse (tailbone) and had to sit on a donut for 6 months. My driveway is on a pretty large hill and dumb me put the stepladder on the soap coated painted driveway and smash!. Even have it on video from my security cam. I watch it once a month as a reminder how I almost killed myself. LOL. Now I get it detailed once a year and that's it other than when I bring it in for an oil change. :D

Not the best business policy. You can buy boxes (100) of those cloths. Increase the cost of the carwash by .25 and that should cover the replacement of those that go missing. This way you are ticking off your clients.

It is becoming the trend. The carwash I go to provides free vacuum, towels, and three air guns on the right side (one for window cleaner, one for air to blow dust out of crevices, and one sanitize fluid). On the left where the towels are There is a mister where you choose your desired car scent (if any) and car mat cleaners. You slide the mats into this machine (as you would a fax) and it washes and vacuums them. then they come out the other end. Kind of like you are making pasta. $24.00 a month for unlimited washes (Usual price 32/mo)

Ask the restaurants in The Villages, how many salt and pepper shakers, mustard, and ketchup containers and jellies go missing every day.
Yes the car wash is probably losing many towels a day. Can’t blame them for this policy

Totally agree. When Fenney Grill opened they had very nice S&P shakers and they did have them for sale. Every pair were stolen from the tables. Just ridiculous.
