At night I’d prefer a predominantly darker screen background. Is there an option for that?

Why not just lower the screen brightness in Settings?

TOTV is not an app, it is a website. So, I don't think it has individual display settings. But, you can change the display setting on your device from light mode to dark mode. On my Samsung tablet, you go to the home page, select "settings" then "display" and then select dark mode.

I already use dark mode and have brightness as low as possible. I’d just prefer to have a dark mode on the ToTV website…like many other websites do.

Dark mode is a feature that is not incorporated in all web site designs. A traditional website has one design for background and font color choices. A website that has dark mode capability has a second choice of background and font color choices that is less brilliant at night. “Dark mode” just tells the browser which color scheme to use. I have found that maybe 50% of the websites that i use support dark mode.
However, there are some browser extensions (for both chrome and safari) that try to provide a “dark mode” for all websites by forcing different (background and font) color schemes on websites for dark mode. This would work fine for switching between black and white but may look weird for or other colors. Search for “dark mode” in the app store to find an extension.
Chrome also has a built in flag that you can change that tries to do this. But i have not tried this.

Have you tried using the old version of TOTV? It has a mostly dark green background.

I don't know the age of your TV; my main TV is 10 years old and has several modes which will cover brightness. It also has one mode that adjusts to the light in the room. Try going into your setting and see if there is anything there that will solve your needs.

the totv website doesn't take advantage of Dark Mode. I tried using multiple browsers with the same bright white screens. There is an app in the Mac store which is dark mode for safari for $2.99, not sure if this would work or not. Maybe they have a trial period.

It depends on the Internet browser you are using. My Samsung Internet browser on my tablet has a dark mode setting that works fine for the TOTV website.
