Our POD has Arrived!

Actually, it got here yesterday morning. We are still trying to decide what we want to have in our new home and what we need to keep here (NH) until we finally sell. Some things are obvious like the snow blower and such, but the sorting through of what is going to go to FL and what will end up in the motorhome for summer visits to the kids are tough!

How have you alll done this? We only have the POD here in NH untl 12/15. We are are having it delivered on Christmas eve in TV, but we won't get there til Christmas night. PODS assured us that they can drop it off without anyone there. I sure hope so... I sure don't want to spend Christmas night "camped out" on the floor of our villa (and with no way to make coffee in the morning!) Has anyone had PODS deliver without being "onsite"?

They just drop if off. NP at all. The biggest problem seems to be that they don't always deliver on the day promised. You can ask that the driver give you or someone a call to confirm the delivery after it is made. That way, at least you'll know it has arrived (if the driver is willing to call -- that seems to be up to the individual driver).

I was fortunate in having a close friend who also lives in TV. I had mailed/shipped the important items to them before we arrived and they also had milk and coffee and food supplies and the important toilet paper for when we got there. Hope your POD arrives on time.

If you are in a villa, just make certain that there is room (totaly on your driveway) and no obstructions (trees etc) allowing them to drop the pod. They will not drop the pod on any grsssy area..liability over damaging the sprinklers.

I personally wanted to be there to make certain the POD opening was facing the house allowing easier unloading. Dont forget the Village Watch people will be monitoring you, in that the POD can only be on your property for no more than 72 hours .

We live in VT and have a daughter in Long pond, NH. We are also in a similar situation as to what to bring. We're using a company called ABF but we're probably getting a trailer instead of a pod because I'm not sure of the space we'll need. We have been "purging" for the past year and now stepped it up a notch. Isn't it amazing how much stuff you can accumulate over the years?

Wow, moving on Christmas! Hope the drive from New Hampshire to Florida goes smooth and no snowstorms.

Yes, the 72 hour limit on trailers or PODS is strictly enforced.

I have never used PODS but our moving truck was right on time last year and coordinated with us via cell phone so we would all arrive at the house at the same time.

My advice is look at what you think you need to bring....cut that in half and give the rest to charitable organizations.

You are not going to need it all here!

Believe me, you won't want or need half of the stuff you think you do ! When we left MA, we said good bye to most stuff New England and are happy we did. We understand the Yankee mentality of keeping everything because we might need it, trust me, you don't need it.

Kim, how exciting for you to be spending Christmas night in TV! If I were going to be there, I'd deliver you coffee and muffins myself on 12/26 just to make sure you have some. Please post after you get here to let us know how it all went. I wish you a joyful merry Christmas in your new home!!

We have been getting things staged into the POD. Our son came over this weekend to help with some of the heavy things as they had to be carried out over the stairs (won't have that problem at the other end). PODS say that we need to have it ready for them by the 15th, but now I see that we may get some snow before then. Now, the race is on to get everything we want packed up and into the POD ASAP so we can attempt to beat the snow and have them pick it up before it snows. I don't want to have them say they can't get up my driveway here.

To those that warned of the 72 hours, thanks! We plan to have the POD dropped off in our drive on Christmas eve. We are going to arrive on Christmas night - probably won't get there until about 10 PM and just take out what we need to sleep on that night. The plan is to move everything else out of the POD and into the garage to empty the POD as soon as we can on 12/26. They are supposed to pick it up on 12/27. That should keep us in the 72 hour window.

They assured us that they would call on 12/23 to let me know what time it is supposed to get dropped off. Then call again when they are on the way. They did this on this end, so I feel pretty good that it will happen the same way at that time.

Now, if I could just stop the nightmares of some catastrophe happening after the POD leaves my house up here...
