I installed a "SimpliSafe" system myself. It can be monitored if you wish, but you need an internet connection.

They have specials on a basic system and you can add more components to your liking. It took me about 90 minutes to have mine installed and up and running...

I was looking at having a system installed, when I was quoted around $3500, I went with a DIY system.

Be careful with the 'backdoors' that could come with a DIY system. You don't want cloud monitoring. There is nothing secure about the cloud. Have your own server at your house and remotely access it with your own tools.

Read up on the baggage that comes with Ring cameras and you will see all your want to know.

Thoroughbred Alarm, Rob Chadwick, Thoroughbred Alarm (http://www.tbalarm.com). They use Honeywell equipment, we have used Thoroughbred since we arrived in 2014. Great service and availability when you need them. The question, what price is security worth to you? There are many DIY's, many specialized providers and everyone that has one has an opinion.

Ring cameras also

Yes. Ring is another option. I have a ring doorbell in my "northern" home.

When my daughter first moved into her own place, se bought the SimpliSafe system and I helped her install it. I liked it so much, when it was time, I went with the same system...

One benefit of Ring is that accessories are available at Best Buy and Home Depot (among other places)...

We've used SimpliSafe for 5 years. You install it yourself- it's wireless. It connects to monitoring via a built-in cell phone link, as well as via The Internet as a back up. It cost only about $400 and monitoring is less than $20 per month. They have frequent sales of 40% and 50% off so when you call be sure to ask for a discount if there isn't a sale at the time. Google will tell you they are the #1 recommended system for self-install. No. I don't work for them- just a happy customer.

I see my V house all day long while I'm in NY, or anywhere. I see when the lawn service arrives, a new renter, the neighborhood nucience dog that runs loose all night, go on my lawn. In addition we have great neighbors that watch the house. But with a system you can literally talk directly while they are at the door.
We have DYI "ring" on both our houses and love it. And yes, you can just keep adding cameras. Although you may not want battery operated bc you will have to get up to the unit to change, we have solars at roof line and frt door runs off our frt doorbell power supply.
I am sure you can find a handyman to install these. Best of luck

I have installed 2 Simply Safe systems in our homes. They really are easy to install. If you have any problems, they are quick to help. We have all doors and windows monitored, a glass break detector, motion sensor, smoke detector, and cameras. We pay about $29/month for monitoring, which includes cameras. The upfront cost with cameras can be $1000 depending on how many cameras you install, but well worth the peace of mind.

I just had a thought, if you do NOT need immediate notification, you can just get a few "nanny cams" and spread these through the house. These tend to be inexpensive and will provide evidence of the person(s) in the house to police. I have seen these in many different variations, from teddy bears, to clocks, wall plugs, etc.

I have a Ring camera doorbell, cheap internet, and wonderful neighbors, Empty Nest watches home. No problems. And oh yes, insurance, my property insurance covers contents of house. So if anything was taken or damaged etc it’s covered. Peace of mind.

Same here! They installed our interior security system and the cameras on the outside. We’re great to work with.

I am paranoid and want to have a security/fire detection system installed to give me peace of mind when I am away. Recommendations for installers? Since my original post, I decided to hire Village Alarm because I wanted a professional system that Is like the ones I have in my Northern homes. Again, it is probably more than I need, but it gives me peace of mind during long absences. And having the system saves me about $200 a year on homeowner’s insurance. I was very satisfied with the service and installation. When I called for an estimate, I spoke directly with Andre the owner. No pressure and very candid about pros and cons. Dave the installer was friendly, very neat and willing to take as much time as I wanted to discuss all aspects of the project. Finally, monitoring is more than half the cost of ADT.
