Auto Insurance for Folks in The Villages

Just assumer that FL will be a good bit higher than GA. NJ has the highest rates in the country because of fraud. FL has one of the highest rates because of the number of uninsured drivers.

Yes, be prepared for a SHOCK, even with very high credit rating, no mortgage, perfect driving record, not even a speeding ticket in college, and it's 3 times cost for full coverage, same company, than in previous state. Even worse, many companies will not even offer you a break if you do home and auto. Many times you may have to go to two different companies, not always, but often, to get your home insured and your auto.

Overall, I would venture that senior drivers all have "poor" driving skills, or even tourists not knowing how to drive properly when they bring their families to vacation in Florida, are a very tiny part of those involved in the accidents and resulting law suits. Many MANY communities here in the USA and in Europe have round-a-bouts, and drives from almost all states know the meaning of "dotted" lines and solid lines. If it were possible to do so, I think you would find the high rates are for ALL of FLORIDA, and the highest percentage of accidents involve working age people, independent trades people who mow, trim trees, etc. and carry no insurance, and the high number of non citizens with no insurance and often no valid driver's license. Florida also (unfortunately...but NOT limited to Florida), has a high number of young street racers, a very dangerous pass time that has ended in a great many tragedies. I think you might be surprised at the actual break down in the actuary tables of age, citizenship, etc. Florida also has a very high number of impaired drivers, drugs and alcohol, beaches, and interstate highways where drivers going the WRONG way, or UP and OFF ramp, is not uncommon. No, think there is a great deal more to high rates than mature drivers and round-a-bouts !

Full coverage in Florida over $4K?? Really? We have FULL coverage with Travelers and are paying just under $1k Premium annual.

We pay about the same as we did in GA for car insurance, around $1000 a year. There are a lot of bad drivers in TV especially navigating the roundabouts. I almost got hit in a roundabout by one of commercial workers here, making the 1st right from the inside lane. I called the company and told them what the driver did.

I pay 1200 a year with travelers. Never had an accident or ticket, but last year had accident not my fault. Donut truck ran stop sign. I was paying 900 and when I called said it went up because of lawsuits, inflation of parts to repair vehicles. They have great customer service thru villages ins.

We're in the $1K range also with Progressive, bundled with home insurance.

Side Note: newer homes built to the latest wind/hurricane standards can receive substantial discounts compared to older construction.

Florida is a "no fault" state. Insurance is high because of all the un-insured driving. So whether you cause an accident or not... your insurance takes a hit. Also most people don't realize it but if you have 2 "hits" on your record within I believe 3 years your insurance IS cancelable.

This happened to a friend. He was in 2 car accidents (both no fault) within one year and he was hit on his bicycle by a car (got a brain injury again no fault and no claim made for accident only hospital record existed on accident).

Progressive cancelled his insurance AND counted the bicycle accident based on hospital record!!

He had to drive a motorcycle (in FL use a helmet no insurance needed) for over a year and a half or more until time passed to be outside of the 3 year look back period to able to get "high risk" expensive insurance so he could drive again.

It was an awful experience when two of his cars were totalled and NONE of it was his fault. Take a bus, train or ride a motorcycle. The three wheeled trike bikes you see... some could be people trying to just get by. FL car insurance laws and no fault is definitely not that. It's YOUR fault first your insurance gets dinged first. PIP baby!

(My daughter had a similar experience accident wise. USAA was great. She had 2 accidents, no faults, and USAA did NOT cancel her.)

Just moved from Colorado three months ago - stayed with Progressive, full coverage, my premiums dropped 20%. Comprehensive coverage is much higher in Colorado, as the frequency of hail claims that could total-out your car have increased in recent years.

Not sure where they got these numbers from... The "average" rate they list for Florida is over twice what I pay per year.

I've lived in Michigan, Georgia, and Florida. Michigan was by far the most expensive (no fault state), followed closely by Georgia. Florida has been the cheapest for me.

Shop around. I had Geico for ten years, with a premium of about $1200/year and was satisfied with it. When I got my new bill last month for the next six months, Geico had fully doubled the premium, with no explanation as to why. No accidents, no tickets, no change in coverage, etc. Just twice the premium. So I moved to AAA for less than the original premium from Geico. Don't fall into the trap of loving your current auto insurance carrier. They don't care about you.

Our quote from State Farm was about HALF what we pay for a full year in NY.
When I mentioned that to the agent, her response - "oh, that's a 6 month quote"

I have a friend who moved to a city just Northwest of Atlanta. Her auto insurance is much higher there.
