My GE frig in my new patio villa makes an annoying loud grinding noise every few hours as it replaces ice. Sounds like loud brakes squealing on a car. Is this common with the model that is placed in new builds by the developer? Since I’m still under my one year new home warranty, was wondering if this is something I should notify the warranty dept - or will they tell me that the noise is standard, and that there is nothing wrong with frig. I’m thinking if this noise can’t be fixed, I may just dump this new frig and upgrade to a better, quieter model.

I suggest that you contact the warranty department and simply say your refrigerator has started to make an unusual noise. They will likely give you a phone number for GE warranty claims. This number appears to be a special phone number used by the developer for GE warranty claims.

My GE Profile refrigerator was making an unusual constant noise last year and what I described is what happened. In my case, the problem was a bad seal in the freezer drawer causing the defrost fan to work constantly.

GE comes out directly. Very nice guy, he has been to our house twice. Dishwasher door was clicking had to order a part. No hassle, will hook up fridge to computer and tell you what’s wrong and how many time you are in the fridge, and how long you leave the door open.

The only noise you should hear from your refrigerator should be from your icemaker, dropping of ice and refill of trays. We had a GE Profile refrigerator which had fan and motor noise from day one. Calls to warranty had the "nice man" install noise suppression kits, change fans etc. Constant hassle until after warrantee and then it failed.

I think you should be supercritical of any appliance that does not perform well out of the box. They are designed not to make noise, but the design is so compromised by cost that they are not as durable as you might expect.

Don't be embarrassed about multiple calls. Any service call is a pain to you that you did not buy. They should be apologizing to you.

Incidentally, I worked for GE for 40 years.
