View Full Version : TV Buying Coleman Federal Prison

Im not trying to start a rumor (or maybe I’m late learning about it), but a friend told me something that she “heard” that sounds improbable to me. If someone has the actual facts about this subject, I hope they’ll let me know. She tells me the new charter school buildings are being across the street from the prison and she is horrified by this. She says the prisoners from Coleman were going to be transferred to the federal prison in Marion County and TV was going to buy Coleman Prison. This sounds improbable to me because I can’t imagine why would the federal govt. sell their largest prison to TV. It’s not like the property is owned by the county or the state, but by the federal govt. who could care less about TV. But maybe the prison was for sale? I might be a blockhead, but I don’t see the problem with having the school across the street from the prison. Anyone know the facts of this situation?

The prison is moving. A Costco is being built on the site.

This rumor has been debunked several times, most recently by none other than Gold Wingnut himself. Even if the property were for sale, the costs involved to demo all the existing structures would be prohibitive.

The prison was there 1st. Anyone moving to this area or starting a business knew or should have known about it. If it is was torn down/moved can't imagine how many complaints would be made about WASTING tax dollars.

That's probably why The Villages is abandoning parts of CR470 and building their own Central Parkway which will further separate Middleton from the prison.

Thank you all for confirming that I’m not crazy, in this moment anyway. The idea was so nonsensical to me that I couldn’t believe my friend was repeating it. Soon as I have a chance I’m going to drive out by the new school just to see how close it actually is to the prison. Maybe I’ll see the new Costco/Trader Joe’s construction.

I have a 200-page expose about those Jewish space lasers. I collected data from cameras strategically placed in the microwave ovens of certain government officials.
Of course I'm keeping the document safe in an unmarked pizzeria basement, buried under 1000 pillows.

New roads almost completed. The schools are impressive and commercial buildings are going up.

We took a ride out that way the other day. We were so far away from BROWNWOOD that I expected to have to show a passport at some point on the way back. Out of nowhere we came upon the telltale signs of The Villages Construction. Just amazing. In keeping with my personal rule of not criticizing where anyone lives I will reserve any judgement but I will tell you it’s far far far away! These people are really something else. I guess developers, develop! Good for them and good for the people who get those nice homes at a reduced price!!!! Just amazing stuff!

Of course the price to build another prison probably was significantly more than what they would offer.

I dont think the prison is across the street from the schools.
Call me crazy, but I would think there are a lot of regulations from the Burueau of prisons, the dept of education and various state agencies that dictate how close a school can be built to the prison housing the World Trade Center bomber, the 1998 Kenya embassy bombing and the 2012 attempted suicide bombing of the capital building
the location wasnt picked with a dart.

Problem is, in an escape, SOP will be to lock down houses within a certain radius, so you’re either in your locked in your house or if your out and about, you cant get back to your house.
To escape from Coleman would take planning and outside help. More than likely they will try to run, but as in any best laid plan, things happen. The driver gets hurt or car crash or blockade - Then escapee’s only choice is to stay and hide someplace.

They also have a Camp where they have more freedom than the other institutions on site.
The main difference between minimum-security camps and other prisons is that they don’t have barriers between the prison and the outside. There are no razor wire, walls, or fences surrounding the facilities. Several federal prison camps are built on former college campuses or military bases.

When was the last prison escape from Coleman?
April 2022 - didnt escape from Coleman, was a Coleman prisoner who escaped a half way house in wildwood
Dominic Taddeo, 64, was noted as "escaped" as of Monday in Bureau of Prison records and he's now being sought by the United States Marshal’s Service, BOP spokesman Donald Murphy said in a statement.
Records showed the last place he lived under BOP control was a halfway house in Wildwood, Florida.
Taddeo had been transferred from the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Coleman Medium "to community confinement in a residential reentry center (RRC) overseen by the Bureau of Prisons’ Orlando Residential Reentry Management Office," according to Murphy.
This is the address of the half way house
6303 County Road 500, Wildwood. (Close to the intersection of Marsh Bend Trail and 470)

Well, the street is really CR470 with the Prison north of CR470 and it appears that the Schools are well south of CR470 surrounded by other properties. It sounds like this area, Middleton, is being developed with housing not limited to seniors but rather for employees of the Villages and with a Villages lifestyle.
I wonder if the 7,000 plus prisoners will be considered in the population of The Villages Metro area.

Perhaps the big medical research complex soon to be constructed by 470 / turnpike will be perfect for the execution of the 1970's planned Soylent Green Project. Maybe that the T V is expanding with home building to fill the roster of candidates.
