Can someone recommend someone who is especially good at pedicures and an ingrown toe nail?

I thought I was going to a really good place, but suddenly after 3 years, I have an ingrown nail, that may have been caused by a poor pedicure.

Your shoes are too tight.
I have dremel tool for nail, tequila for pain.

Seriously, I feel your pain. Mine is an ongoing battle that I deal with on my own. Sharp, heavy duty nippers to trim the nail. Tequila to steady my hands and give me courage. (The tequila part is a joke. I drink scotch.)

Find a Podiatrist to take care of issue before resuming pedi.

This. A qualified Podiatrist should be able to get you back on your feet in under 30 minutes, using local anesthesia.

JMintzer, he is a retired podiatrist and based his daily posts on TOTV he appears to have lots of free time on his hands : )

You might want to go to a podiatrist. A podiatrist can do some things to keep a wayward nail from constantly being a problem.

My northern podiatrist took care of a wicked toenail for me. It was never infected, but the darn thing was always growing an ugly little horn. The procedure the podiatrist did was more extensive than what a pedicurist can do, but that toenail never got away from me again.

(I am a little hinky about salon pedicures sometimes. I try not to think about how clean that little tub and those tools really are. That’s just me, but……an ingrown nail can require digging, slicing, cutting — and I want a foot doc to do that in a medical office.)

In TV, I went to Dr. Shannon Floyd for a torn tendon. I really liked her. If you need a podiatrist, I recommend her.

Hangnails make my fingers hurt! I don't like to get pedicures or manicures in beauty shops. Thank you for your advice.

No references, but I feel your pain. I was in pointe shoes for decades, so I had to do constant nail maintenance via podiatrist to keep them manageable. I would reconsider footwear (no pointe shoes! Hahaha) and definitely go to a doctor. Maybe they'd know a good pedicurist to recommend.

Not necessarily caused by shoes that are too tight. Mine is because of multiple foot surgeries.
See podiatrist first.

I guess it is time to tell why I don't want to go to a podiatrist. Over many years, I have heard how very painful the numbing shots are. I am ok at the dermatologist but the thought of a needle under my nail scares me. I am totally against pain.

I know that I may have to grow up and go, but really don't want to.

I do appreciate all of the replies. I thank you for your time.

No one (at least no one who knows what they're doing) will put a "needle under your nail"...

The injection is at the base of the toe, where it joins the foot, the area where the skin is loose and there is plenty of room for the volume of anesthetic to expand... Minimal discomfort...

That said, I've had a few patients come to see me who were previously treated in the ER, and yes, they were injected under the nail...

I made a special trip to the ER (the director was a friend) to show them the CORRECT way to numb a toe...

Since then, they just sent them all to me... :p

You should NEVER let a nail salon dig in or cut anything other than shortening the nail. This could lead to infection, or ongoing problems.

You have been very helpful. Thank you. BUT, I believe you are in DC.

Can you, or someone, recommend a podiatrist to treat an ingrown nail who is gentle located in or close to Lady Lake?

Sorry, but I don't know enough about the local docs to do so...

I'd go with a recommendation from a satisfied patient...

Ted’s wife is replying:

My foot doctor suggested taking a very small piece of cotton and place it under the corner of the nail that is ingrown, this will lift the nail up just enough to relieve the pain. Leave the cotton in place and allow the nail to grow and trim straight across. When getting a pedicure in the future do not allow the tech to trim the nail too short to avoid the problem going forward.

I never had a shot for ingrown nail, but yes it is painful. Good luck, the pain is worth it to be freed of them.

I just saw Dr. Casteel and he was wonderful. But he said he’s going on paternity leave sometime soon. Might try to see him soon or wait a while.

i used tri county podiatry for both toes. They numb with freeze spray then a few quick injections to totally numb. I guarantee you keeping the ingrown will cause you far more pain aggregately with procrastination than dealing with it

I had that needle into the end of my big toe, and I nearly levitated right off the table, Pain level from one to ten?--that was a twelve! That will never happen to me again. They will have to knock me out first.

May I ask where that was done? I'm speculating it was in an Urgent Care facility...

I can promise that no Podiatrist was taught to do that...
