I was in Newell over the weekend and the Road Closed - No Trespassing signs are no longer up on Meggison. The signs have been up since last summer but have been gradually moving south as Newell and Lake Denham are being built.

I haven't seen an official notice that it has opened but cars were going all the way down to 470.

Yes open to 470 when we drove there by cart yesterday, and yes open to cars. The last mile or so doesn’t have the final top coat of asphalt. Also, we went on Sunday and no construction traffic. So much going on in that area I would not recommend the drive there during the work week, Sunday afternoon seemed fine.

Are there exit ramps on the Turnpike that would allow you to get off at 470 and enter the Villages from the South side?

Yes.

Yes. You can get off the Turnpike at 470 but you can't get on the Turnpike northbound at 470. You can go south. If you live in the Sawgrass Grove area and want to get to I 75, you have to either drive north to Wildwood and get on the Turnpike at 301 and then merge with I 75 or drive up to 44 and west to I 75.

Really? Google maps shows both northbound and southbound exits and entrances to the turnpike at 470. Is the northbound blocked in some way?

You are correct! You can get on it northbound at 470! That is good news - people can get to Orlando or Ocala more quickly now that Meggison is open.

Official not yet. But it’s getting close. The final top coat for the last mile is still needing to be done. Than the lines and stripes. Still a lot of heavy equipment moving about so it’s still very dangerous. I would not recommend trying to use the road. When I was there Sunday afternoon there was Leesburg’s finest parked on Chandler Dr. popping his blues when people tried to turn In from 470.

If it isn’t open, why did they take the road closed sign down? If there is a road closed sign up for 9 months and then they take it down, most people would assume that it is open.

I've taken it for a month now. Some visitors even took it 3 months ago when the road was dirt. Their app told them to take it. I was surprised. There may be some nails on the road though.

So other construction vehicles can move more easily.

I was in that area two days ago, Sunday, on a bicycle and observed a sign for construction zone while traveling south on Meggison Road.

The time savings is minimal. I only saved 3 minutes but the mileage saved was 7 miles versus the regular route.

You are correct, you can get on Turnpike going north from 470. The entry ramp goes south off of 470 and loops around to take you north.

Temporary closures for construction.

There is a big sign just past mickeylee golf saying no trespassing, right at where the road needs 1 more top. Where we live, we will save 15 mins and many miles going meggison.
We have been using meggison to go to the hwy for over a month now while driving by the no trespassing sign

Temporary closures for construction.

What construction?

The Villages is doing construction north of 470. The turnpike northbound entrance is south of 470.

We've been using Meggison to 470 for at least a month now. We closed in Newell on March 1st. Makes it much easier to get into Leesburg.
Even during the day it's fine.
I believe they are working on a security booth right at the end of Meggison by 470.
We pass cops all time and they never stop us. I believe they are there to see who comes in and out cause there was a break in on our street a few weeks back.

So other construction vehicles can move more easily.

So after nine months of the road closed sign up, the developer suddenly decides that they want to make it easier for other construction vehicles to move? Why didn't they want to make it easier since last June?

Yes, you can get on 470 Northbound. Just before you get to the overpass you turn left and take the ramp that loops around to the right. We do it all the time when we play golf at Arlington Ridge or Plantation at Leesburg.
