Just drove by the Geovanni's on Wedgewood. The sign is gone, the windows papered up with a handwritten note saying "closed". We ate there often going to miss it.

According to the person I spoke with at Gio's deli a week or so ago, the original owners will be reopening Giovanni's, but they did not provide a time frame.

The sign above the door is gone. Maybe they are going to reopen but it may take a few months. I hope so

Might be new name - the Giovanni’s name, as a restaurant, might be damaged

Someone on Nextdoor stated it is closed for good and the previous owners new deal fell through. We will see.

At this point I think it is more than a rumor that the original owners have taken it back and it WILL reopen soon... hopefully... always a LINE outside on the sidewalk, even when the new owners took over, so who knows what the problem is/was.

First time we went to Giovanni’s I needed to use the rest room. As I headed back to the men’s room, I noticed the rear door was wide open, and, passing the kitchen, I noticed it looked pretty sloppy. Hmm, I thought, Not that clean. Returning to my seat I then thoroughly enjoyed one of the best Italian meals I’ve had. The cooking was great - the ambience and facilities not so much. Subsequently I’ve gone to events catered by them. Again great. Pizza great. Don’t throw out the baby with the bath water.

Hmmm. We just saw them open last week when we went to the King Fu Chef next door. A worker was sitting outside on the bench smoking, and the restaurant looked empty.
I never understood the fuss about Giovanni’s. We gave it a few tries and I thought their food was forgettable. Sauce (or gravy if you’re old school) was “ketchup-forward”, the garlic knots looked good, but were always cold and stale even with a brush of melted butter, and I’d rather have a frozen grocery store pizza than what they served. Mediocrity on a plate.

You can’t have physical altercations with customers and expect to stay open very long.

If you dislike Giovanni's but like King Fu Chef, then Wow.

Seems to be a lot of drama surrounding this place. The old owners wanted to stay on the books so their kid can stay in TV high school. Then the board of health closes it down then it reopens and then closes again with rumors of old owners reopening.
I dunno, go to Olive Garden.

Grew up with grandma's giant pot of gravy on the stove every Sunday family dinner. Nice memories.

We have not ordered anything from them in probably 15 or more years but did enjoy KungFu Chef. Went to KungFu Chef for my 2-24 birthday lunch with family.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Chinese restaurant expands into this now open space. KungFu China has great food but only a dozen or so tables inside.

I actually spoke to the original owner. She said they are taking back the business. That the new people ran it into the ground and she was overwhelmed in getting it back to operating orders.

if thats happening its time for corporate musical chairs. Fun part of watching a movie at the end credits is counting the myriad of dummy shell corporations created to avoid prosecution for anything civil in nature , sorry alec, usually get up to 10 or better

Have you tried Roberto's in Pinellas Plaza, it is better than Giovanni's.

I hope so. It's sad to see any business go under. They made the best pizza.

Ate at Giovannis years ago. Never impressed. I felt it was Eye-Talian food for people west of the Hudson River

I actually hold dual Italian citizenship, and i would disagree with that. It’s not a meal from a small cafe in rome, but it’s not fake Italian.

I had business today at the establishment next door to the old Giovanni’s. I inquired as to what’s happening next door. Their answer….Previous owners wanted to return but The Villages said ‘not available’. Why? They didnt know. My guess…KungFu expansion. Present physical status…large sign over the entrance gone, hand written note on the door said ‘closed’.

There has been sooooo many comments , statements ,possible rumors etc. I wish the original owners would post a statement with facts so we would know what to expect. We miss it so much & keep hoping we get it back to what we had since the original opening
