View Full Version : Being responsible pet owners

Over the past few months, I have noticed more and more often that some residents are leaving their pet waste in bags along the walking paths, this is not only disgusting it is disrespectful. We all live in this community and want to keep it beautiful and clean, there is no one hired to clean up after you or your pets that is your job as a pet owner. While I appreciate you bagging up the pet waste, please finish your job by disposing it properly.

I saw this once on the path around Hawkins preserve. It turned out that a couple was walking two dogs and didn't want to carry the full bag around so they left it and picked it up on the way back.

Yeah, we have been seeing that for the past few years and yesterday we saw a bag of dog crap next to a bench near Edna's on the Hogeye trail. Some dog owners are truly disgusting.

That's the story they use if they get caught conveniently forgetting it on the way back (by some other route).
Meanwhile, back at the scene of the crime, everyone that goes by is graciously treated to the disgusting sight of a bag of poop that some self entitled individual(s) left for all the world to enjoy.
Hey! It's your dog poo! Pick it up and carry it to the proper disposal container. Don't leave it hoping that someone else will do you job for you.

The world is going insane. A dog owner was walking their dog (as dog owners are known to do) when it relieved itself. The owner picked up the droppings and discarded the plastic baggy in someones trash bin, which was out by the curb. It was trash pick up day. The owner of said trash can had (cue the music) "A RING DOORBELL". That night, identifying the dog owner (they went house to house showing a photo til they identified him) they went back home and put together their response to this heinous crime. The next day Staples made a sale. They made large signs, photo of the accused throwing the baggy in the trash, another of the dog in full squat, with such slogans as "Why would I want your dog sh**" and I won't sh** in your can, please don't sh** in mine". I understand being a bit annoyed, but everyone, from the dog owner to the garbage can owner, seem to have lost all ability to behave in a civilized manner. So many things that are common today I would find impossible to believe twenty years ago.

How about being more responsible TO the pet. That's more important to me. Pets don't get asked if they want to be someone's pet. They don't really have a choice in the matter.
I think a responsible dog owner will walk barefoot along with their dog, whenever they feel the urge to walk their dog on blacktop without booties.
I think that should be an enforced law. If you walk your dog on blacktop when the outdoor temperature is over 70°, you are required to walk barefoot. OR you can put booties on the dog.

As stated earlier, more often than not, people are on a walk and pick it up on the way back because they don't want to carry it around. If they had such bad intentions, they wouldn't bring a bag to start with. Nice first post, btw, You may want to familiarize yourself with the search function.

As stated earlier, that excuse is just that, an excuse. Bag the poo to make yourself look responsible. Then go on your way and conveniently forget about it. Leave it for others to have to look at the disgusting bag of poop. Not very kind or respectful, even if you did happen to find it still waiting for you. And as you pass by you can say, " I wonder who left that there?"
And, as also stated earlier, it is your flying poop bag! You carry it until you can properly dispose of it! Don't leave without it.

Don't worry about it too much, I'm sure whoever left it will "remember" where he/she left it one day soon and hurry back to get it and take it to their home. Like last night, the same person who walks three large dogs down our block every night without fail just after sunset, apparently was not anxious to have the two bags of poop, so as I was checking for a loose bulb in an outdoor porch light, I watched the dog walker discretely toss the bag under my neighbor's azalea bushes. I don't have much hope they will come back for it. This ever growing problem really has no answer. We can "discuss" it on blogs, we can "whine" about it endlessly, but people who do this are going to do it. I dread the approach of summer... no matter how large or how often they POST the "PLEASE do not put dog feces in the postal station trash containers"... those they called the "privileged" (some call them the "elites"), continue to fill the containers with what they would never consider putting in their own yards or in their own trash containers. So as the summer heats up, the aroma pool side is, at times, unbearable when no breeze is stirring. We've never figured out why the Villages administration encourages and advertising the pool-postal area as a "doggie doo dump" at all, but people seem to love it, come with up to 3 dogs at a time, in autos and on golf carts. I doubt things will ever change, who would even try ? Can you imagine writing "tickets" to people who can not even read the words "DO NOT"....LOL !

True, lol. You would think the minute they got back home they would immediately miss he smell and go right back for the bag so they can enjoy it...LOL ! Can't imagine leaving a bag of poop and not remember it ! It would only cause more anger and even become "dangerous", but wouldn't it be hilarious if someone followed them and returned the bag they accidentally dropped !

Some may think "blah, blah, what else is new", but for the more recent residents, this absolutely was a RARE occurrence 8 years ago and before. VERY RARE, and you NEVER saw people walking dogs and tossing the bags into the ponds, under other people's bushes and flowers, and into containers meant for WASTE PAPER at the postal stations. Things have changed, perhaps it's just from the population explosion, perhaps there have always been a certain percentage of people who do this, but we've lived in four states and different developments in those states, and NEVER have seen the pet "incidents" that go on here daily. We always let out dogs out in our yard to "take care of business", and, if they didn't "produce", they didn't get a walk ! Just like our children, if they didn't eat their dinner, no dessert that night, LOL !

Exactly, you got that one nailed, but, as we all know, some responsible person, or someone who just can't stand the odor any longer, will pick it up for them ! If you raised kids, you know the drill. IF the parents will pick up the clothes, shoes, bikes, etc. "left" wherever, the "kids" will certainly learn to do as they wish..."someone" will come along and be the responsible adult. Personally (and I am probably alone on this one), but I think it is rude to take it anywhere but to the dog owner's own home. I don't think it's appropriate to put it in any public waste container to "age" there and have some worker have to collect. But, that's not against the law so as long as it's "somebody else" to has to collect it, probably not a concern for most people !

the way to stop it is meet with leo as a community and demand 1 dedicated

You have to understand their mentality. They ,the dog owners are common low life's that feel they are above you and feel they are entitled when in fact, they are just common trash. So just imagine how their children turned out. Low life's just like them. People like that should not be allowed to own animals or children!

Agree with the OP that this is a disgusting things to witness, but I’ve never seen (assumed) dog poop lying near paths in bags and rarely dog poop NOT in bags (and I do a lot of walking). Considering the number of dogs I see daily on my walks I can only conclude that the vast majority of dog owners here in TV ARE responsible folks.

False.
Seems true if you read the following from a Google search.........
Their (DOGS) feet are able to withstand numerous textures and temperatures. In addition, dogs have special skin on the bottoms of their feet called “paw pads” that isn't found anywhere else on the body. Our dog's paws are tougher and more complex than the soles of our feet.

Perhaps that’s why there is a meeting coming up about amending deed restrictions in Lake County to establish uniformity with the other districts but of course, I’m just guessing.
As a dog owner, what I’d like myself is to have a backpack or something easy to carry, that you could put the bagged dog poo in, which would look very civilized and not smell. It is hard to talk to a person waving bagged poo around as you try to talk with them.

Definitely false…dogs pads can get burns and blisters from walking on hot surfaces.
On a sunny 86 degree day asphalt can be 135 + degrees.

Yes, they are tougher than the soles of our feet.
But at 90° weather, asphalt can get up to 150°. And once that asphalt hits 125° the pads on a dog's feet can suffer. If they are just standing there while their human chit-chats with the neighbor, their paws can suffer 1st degree burns if the asphalt is 125°. At 150° the burns can blister.
Humans can't handle much more than 100° on their bare feet.

alligators, as mating season gets underway. It could start a bit early this year, according to animal experts at Gatorworld Orlando, because of the unusually warm temperatures.
“This is the time of year you find alligators underneath cars. They show up at your front door. They’re moving around,” “Winter’s over; spring is here.” so be care wkere you walk your dog or it maybe food for these alligators.

A neighbor puts out a black trash container. The garbage collectors empty it and place it back on the driveway. So if not allowed, no one has reported the neighbors for this violation, and the trash collectors don’t realize they are not supposed to empty it.
I could post their address and you could bring your bagged dog poop and throw it in their open container. You’ll see it on their driveways Tuesdays and Fridays. We’re South of SR 44.

I can assure you there were PIGS 20 years ago. I have proof. We had 16mm movies of a family picnic roughly 1955. We never had a 16mm projector so I had never seen them till I had them transferred to DVD. The good old days? Memory is selective. I have proof of the trash all ove.
