An online petition created by community members is calling for the music to be turned back up at the Sawgrass Grove venue. The petition, which now has over 1,200 signatures, began after complaints about noise levels at the venue reportedly led The Villages Entertainment Department to turn the volume down. If it's too loud then you're too old!

Sounds better at the lower volume to me.

Last week I was visiting with someone in Hawkins, whose home backs up to the wall along Morse Blvd (closest Hawkins gets to St. Catherine and Sawgrass).
It was around 6pm and I was surprised how clear the music sounded from Sawgrass Grove.
When I'm in the mood, I go to the music at the venues. When I'm not, I stay home. I'm not sure I would want to listen to that every evening from my porch or lanai -- or, if they turn it up, possibly inside my house.
When they first opened Sawgrass, you could hear the music at the intersection of Meggison and Warm Springs -- no kidding -- though, I guess the wind and weather had to be perfect on those evenings.
I didn't know they turned it down, probably explains why you can no longer hear it in North Hawkins and South St. John.

I can hear the music from Lake Sumter Landing when I’m in my pool. I find it lovely.
Sawgrass was planned before the houses were sold. I would imagine some of those people moved close to an entertainment area so they would hear the music on their lanai nightly. I think it is unfair that those who didn’t do their due diligence are the ones that can control the volume.

So, basically, people complaining about people complaining.

Totally agree, when in our pool we can often either hear the music from Lake Sumter Landing or Spanish Springs depending on which way the wind is blowing.

These petitioners have a valid point.
They bought near sawgrass because they were expecting an entertainment experience similar to the squares. The bands that draw huge crowds at the squares don’t seem to place at sawgrass.
Last night, there was a good band playing at Sawgrass, but the music was VERY low key, no energy.
I do see where the houses behind Ezell Rec Center and along the putting course are very close to Sawgrass, but I think the plans for Sawgrass were in place when those homes were sold.
I do not know what their sales agent told them about Sawgrass

I wonder how the creator of the petition knows that the people that complained about the noise level are in the minority. Do the 1,200 signatories represent the majority? Poster BigSteph indicated that the initial volume level could be heard at Warm Springs & Meggison. That would include many houses not caught in the web of 'they knew before the bought or they didn't do due diligence'. Offhand, I would say those that don't want the sound imposed on them have a higher claim, as those that do want to hear the music have the option of getting closer to Sawgrass on any given evening.

That begs the question, who pays for the bands at Sawgrass? The merchants pay at the squares. Are the merchants paying at sawgrass? The bands that draw the biggest crowds at the squares demand a higher appearance fee. It’s doubtful the few merchants at the smaller venue of Sawgrass can foot that bill? You don’t see the Hooligans at Edna’s or Tierra Del Sol.

So whose fault is it? Lets see...
I bought a house next to an entertainment venue & then complain about the music volume.
I bought a house next to a busy road and then complain about the traffic noise.
I bought a house where the golf cart path is shared with speeding cars on a busy street & then complain about it being dangerous.
I bought a house next to a retention pond & then complain about alligators.
I bought a house in a for-profit developing community & then complain about expansion.
I bought a house in a community of 150k residents who share 3 entertainment stages & then complain that the squares are too crowded.
I believed everything the real estate agent said, didn’t do any due diligence & then complained I was lied to.
I bought a house where the paths are shared with walkers, joggers, bicycles, & carts & then complain about not restricting the paths to my chosen activity.
I bought a house in a community with a huge percentage of snowbirds & then complain about them.
I bought a house in a community that allows rentals & adults under 55 & then complain about it.
I bought a house in an area known to have heavy traffic & then complain about the traffic.
