Being that we are part timers and the last time down ran the AC, when should we turn on the heat ?? When we left, I set the thermostat to 82 Degs
for the AC, but didn't think it would get cold so soon. I thought we would be back long before that, but I guess not . We have friends looking after
the house and will change from AC to Heat, but where should the thermostat be set since we are not there. I was thinking 45 Degs !!!
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Tommy - You might give some thought to replacing your thermostat with a programmable one that has settings for "Heat", "A/C", and "Auto". The Auto function will automatically switch between the Heat and A/C temp settings as necessary.

50-55, but 55 is best. You don't want pipes to freeze. If you live in a manufactured home with old pipes, have someone turn on the kitchen faucet to a very slow drip overnight -- it can save you a small fortune in burst pipes (and has happened more than once).

May I suggest a humidistat be installed by Munns. They did ours and it does wonders to the electric bill and keeps our house warm in the winter at 55 and cool in the summer at 82. Its perfect for part timers like us who cant be here to change the thermostat.
With this unit set to those temps the AC/Heat unit does not come on as often, but only when the humidity reaches a certain point in the house.
The humidistat keeps the humidity out of the air and comes on as needed.
