I went to the UPS store on 466A yesterday - line out the door - was told by people in line that wait is normal at this location, and takes close to an hour to get inside and helped. I had an Amazon return, and I usually don’t do lines, so I left. Drove 15 minutes into the UPS store in Leesburg - walked right in - was the only customer - walked out 30 seconds later after being helped. Then I took advantage of the Leesburg restaurants for lunch. Wanted to share so that people are aware of other options to the long wait at The Villages UPS location.

15 minutes to Leesburg, 15 minutes return, park the car, walk to the store, 1 minutes inside seems to be close to 45 minute process. Never spent more than 20 minutes at Pinellas even when the line was longer. Usually they have a separate Amazon return area which reduces time. Seems the line from here to Leesburg is longer so it appears the OP does do lines.

The Pinnelas location usually has a line, but they are very efficient and run people thru very quickly. Once in awhile an unprepared customer will gum things up.

May be 15 minutes to the Pinellas UPS for him, remember he hails from the southern region. Also at the Leesburg UPS you can park right at the door, not much walk.

Also, at the Leesburg UPS is located Popeye's next door and Dairy Queen!

They are in the process of opening a new location at 301 and Warm Springs which will pull the southern villages customers away from that location and shoud make the lines shorter.

As I understood the OP, he drove from the UPS store at Pinellas Plaza to the UPS store in Leesburg. According the Google Maps, that is a 10 mile trip that takes 23 minutes. I do like Popeye's, but I don't think I would drive to Leesburg to return an Amazon package.

Kohls always gives me either a $5 coupon or 20% discount coupon when I do an Amazon return. There has never been more than a couple of people in line to do the return. In fact, you do not even need to package the item in a box. Just bring the item and have the Amazon return code on your phone. Amazon usually refunds my money before I have even left the Kohls store (which is not the case with UPS)

Amazon recently announced a $1 charge to return things via UPS. The fee does not apply to Kohls

Regarding your last statement, Amazon always refunds my money when the UPS store scans my label.

I bought something from Kohls once, and got emailed discount coupons almost every day until I had to unsubscribe from their email list.

VERY unusual, have never encountered more than 10 min. wait...at most ! Must have been the time of day. Keep in mind there are other UPS locations without going all the way to Leesburg, also check on line for the latest locations to return Amazon packages...we've used Kohl's, it was fast and easy, no problem. But, you did get a day out of the "bubble" which is always a good thing, and had a lunch at a place not available here, also a good thing...LOL ! Seriously, next time you go I doubt you will encounter anything like an hour wait.

And your grand babies ? Do you not relate that no matter the age in numbers, they are always your "babies" in your heart ? And do you not bring yours mementos regardless of their age ? Just because they are in college does not mean they don't need the very human reminder you are thinking of them ! And "flatware" or a George Forman grill ? Don't know what YOU take to YOUR vacation home or to the beach, or to a picnic for that matter, so your comment does seem a bit irrelevant. It's a bit bizarre, don't you think (perhaps not ?) to equate a long line at a postal service to people leaving one of their homes and returning to another ? Might have been a few people who were shipping things back to their other home, but all leaving on the same day, mailing at the same time ? Think maybe it was people, not "snowbirds", and they were probably mailing many items for many reasons. I am surprised the person encountered such a long line, that is not the norm to wait an HOUR !

I’ve been there when the line has had 8 or 9 people and moved along very quickly . They are nice people in that store always very helpful, once I was sending a iPad to a friend in Brazil , and it was a little complicated ,they took there time with me and went way overboard I thought with wrapping it, while still moving people through the store. , another time I had jammed my hand , they filled out all the paperwork for me .I guess some people have a right to complain , I mean they must have been soooooo perfect at there perfect jobs

Sadly the OP was misinformed about the wait at this location. The longest line I’ve waited in reached the parking lot curb and only took me 8 minutes to complete my transaction. As to SafeShip, they clearly state on the receipt that they don’t accept responsibility for your package. If it ends up walking out the back door, then you’re out of luck. At least you’ll have assurance with the UPS store that once you hand over the package and it’s scanned you’re covered.

Thanks for the tip. :) but 15 minute drive from 466A to Leesburg?? You must have been flying.

It takes 15 min to get to 44 depending on red lights. Leesburg UPS store on 27 and 470/48 is more like 30-45 from 446A. For sure a person can't do in a Golf Cart unless one has wings.

Great opportunity for a business to open one at Everglades. There is a Sure Ship (exact name ?) But last I knew they won't take Amazon.

It's a 10 mile, 23 minute drive, according to Google Maps.

SafeShip will accept Amazon UPS returns for free, but you need to print out the shipping label, and trust SafeShip to transfer the package to UPS. At the UPS store, once the package is scanned, the Amazon return is complete.

you need to be at the store EARLY. They open at 8, and there is no one there at that time. Same with the Walmart neighborhood store. Get there early ( 8AM) you'll be in and out in no time and that's when the cashiers start work. Stop complaining and get out of bed, lazy person.

I was in a that very long line past three stores the people around me all played a game.of how long would it take. Person closest to door guessed an hour and was debating about leaving and going to Spanish Springs. I guessed 15 min The person behind me guessed 20 min. I was in and done in 17 min. and that was with them having to get a box for me. We had great time socializing. That is the best UPS location anywhere. Everyone works and knows their job. I would never get out of their line. They are fantastic! Yes, a lot of times Amazon returns go even faster when person comes out with hand held machine.

I know that Kohl’s is easy to return to but a long way from anywhere south of 44, Leesburg isn’t far and you do get to enjoy some different places to eat. We actually spend more time eating in Leesburg than in The Villages, better choices and much more reasonable!

I have always met a line out the door at UPS on 466A ... must be my timing. One of the workers said that location does the most business of any location in the US. Villagers ship A LOT.

While the line always moves fast, it's also nice to know there is also one in Leesburg ... such a lovely little town. And the Kohl's information is helpful too.

I can attest to the fact that whoever told you about an hour wait was full of BS !!

I have been there on multiple occasions waiting in that “line out the door “ and waited maybe 10 minutes for service .

The reason is that they have multiple stations open and efficient staff to assist the customers.

Frankly, had you waited, you would have spent LESS time vs driving to Leesburg !

The best part of your story is that you had a nice lunch …..

Fake News.

Sometimes there is a line, Sometimes there is not.

News at 11.

I went there last month to pick up a box that was supposed to be waiting for me there, according to UPS. There was NO line. Just me! But it still took ten minutes to find my box on the computer and in the warehouse. It puzzles me how the super-efficient UPS that drops off things at my house several times a week can be so inefficient at that annex. Of course, the workers at the Lady Lake post office seem to be working in slow motion, too.

From my house in St Catherine the Leesburg store is 9.5 miles and 18 minutes and the Pinnealas store is 8.7 miles and 17 minutes. I'd pick the Leesburg store since there has never been a line in the 10 times I've been there. There has always been a line at Pinnealas.

Sometimes I am required to box and label an Amazon return even when selecting drop off at UPS Store.

I have tried to return Amazon purchases at Kohl's, but it would not go through. I was told because of my address (too far away).

I have returned Amazon purchase at CVS in the past and was scanned in and given proof of shipping.

Actually, the people who deliver UPS packages to your house are UPS employees. UPS is a large, nationwide business. The UPS store is a small franchise business, and the people who work there are employees of the franchise, not UPS employees.

I go there all the time. There is not always a line out the door but sometimes there is. It doesn't take anywhere close to an hour to get inside and helped though. The line is because it's small inside and people want to social distance. You would have been in and out by the time you got to Leesburg.

Really stupid remark. The UPS store up near Spanish Springs isn't as busy, go there. Oh wait, there are snowbirds there too. Snowbirds generally own houses if you didn't know that, and nobody is returning their housewares which they will need when they come back down.

You can also go to Safe Ship Magnolia at Magnolia Plaza. When you do your Amazon return just pick UPS drop off point. You will get a label and Safe Ship takes those returns. They print your label for free if you do not have a printer. Also they have boxes and packing materials recycled that they offer for Amazon returns for free.

It took 35 minutes on Monday for us to get in the door. The line was down to Winn-Dixie entrance doors. Five employees in the store, only two working the registers. We’ve been 4 times in the past month and that was by far the longest we’ve ever waited, so maybe we were there the same day as the OP. They’re normally much more efficient than they were Monday. A new store will open soon at Warm Springs and 301 thankfully.

It’s a very small store. They allow two people to be waiting indoors because any more than that the doors will be blocked. We’ve never encountered rude employees, but we did see 3 out of 5 not helping at the registers despite the very long line. This was midday, so maybe not the best time to go. Thankfully the line can at least be under cover when rainy like it was Monday.

SafeShip can’t take all returns. There’s specific requirements for them to be able to take the item. They have a sign on their counter showing what they can accept. In our case every recent return we’ve had couldn’t go through them.

Hello to all who had this experience. There is another solution to waiting in line or going to Leesburg to drop off Amazon or UPS packages. Safe Ship Magnolia at 2113 Everglades Lane, just south of Rt 44, will glady take UPS and Amazon returns as long as you have a printed bar code label. You can get the label by choosing UPS DROP OFF POINT NOT UPS STORE when you process a return. If you don't have a printer, you can email the store at Magnolia@safeship.com. The employees there will print you label. They are extremely friendly and would be glad to assist you.

In the long run I only order online from outfits that offer return, free or not, service. You print a label online and give it to either usps or ups or fedex drivers to see. Amazon and ebay come to mind.

The Villages office is always busy. Sometimes the line extends to the curb.

You can also take Amazon returns to Kohls. They'll even handle the packaging.

By the time you travel to Leesburg, you could have been in and out!

OK - I give up - I try and post a helpful tip, and I get “snark” and sarcasm form some people back - why do you the time and effort to post such comments? Do you feel better after doing so? I post what I saw and what someone told me at the store - if you disagree there is a way to post without being rude.

Should have been an interesting discussion on the best place to go to ups stuff, sorry some people spoiled it for you.

I attempted to do Amazon returns through the Pinellas UPS store. Tracking always show no updates and a few months later Amazon try’s to reverse the credit since they never received the returns. Happened three times out of five returns. Sloppy inconsistent process that has opportunities for theft. Management too busy to resolve.

I was at that UPS store yesterday, around 2PM and there were about 15 people in front of me when I got in line.

I was back in my car driving away at 2:15PM.

An hour wait is an exaggeration. I have seen lines there, but it never took more than about 10 minutes to get served.

ditto.

It sounds to me like Michael just had one of "those days" at UPS. Lines will never go any faster than the slowest person ahead of you. You can have 20 people in line, and none of them need anything "special," they're all paying exact change or a "good" credit card, the packaging is perfect, and all is well - and 20 people will be in and out in 25 minutes.

You can also have three people in line, but the guy at the counter had problems sealing his packaging and refuses to leave the line to fix it and wants tape so he can fix it right there. Then he forgets to fill out the form, so the counter clerk has to do it for him. Then he realizes he had the zip code wrong, and has to do it over again. Then the customer complains about the price until he realizes he asked for the wrong type of shipment, and has to fill it all over again - again. Then his credit card wasn't a credit card at all, it was a debit card and he doesn't remember his PIN. So he has to fish out the right card, and has trouble finding it, because he put it in the other pocket when he paid for something at the supermarket an hour ago.

Meanwhile - the line is getting longer and longer and longer, and that one guy behind the customer at the counter has already waited 15 minutes.

Turns out the guy at the back of this new line that exists because the first guy had all these problems, will discover that 3 other people in line ahead of him will need special care - so HIS wait will now be 45 minutes to an hour.

It happens. It's not a daily occurrence, but it does happen.

There is another UPS store next to Publix on 441 in that mall where Dunkin Donuts is. Also empty 90% of the time.

It happens. It's not a daily occurrence, but it does happen.. It is a daily occurrance there (466A). The UPS Store in Pinellas Plaza (466A) is like that 75% of the time virtually every day, This was from the manager. Go on a Sunday. NEVER anyone there on Sunday. They are open short hours though. Or go on 441 to UPS Store, or drop your UPS package at Safe Ship in Colony (but they don't take Amazon scan bars only UPS labels) and they will give a drop off receipt as well.

Amazon will be (already are in many cases) charging for returns dropped a UPS Store (but not a Kohl's). Maybe that will shorten the lines.

Amazon charging for UPS returns: New fee applied for some customers (https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/retail/2023/04/11/amazon-fee-some-returns-ups-stores/11643341002/)

Try going back to doing all your shopping at a brick and mortar store. See how many miles you put on your vehicle, how many stores you have to check, how many trips it takes, how much of a selection you have and how much time you spend. Maybe 10x as much time expended.

I will gladly stand in line and talk to others while being impressed with the service at the store

You must be very easy to please. :D I don't consider scanning a barcode or charging $6 to fax one page as either good or bad service. Just takes a short arm motion. :) It's what they are paid to do. Which UPS store do you work in? Pinellas? :D I managed a The UPS Store in NJ for almost 5 years while waiting for my wife to retire but that goes back a lot of years. I think the AMAZON scan code label drop off killed their "impressive service" especially at that location. We (our store) used to get 75cents for each prepaid label we scanned back then. You have to wait on line for 30 minutes baking in the sun to do ANY business at that store due to the myriad of Amazon dropoffs. They need to setup a outdoor lounge and sell beer there for those in line. 441 UPS Store has no such problems. 3 minutes further drive for me but well worth it. I'm there and back home in less time than waiting at Pinellas location and I am right by 466A.

Welcome to TOTV and congrats on your first post!

EDIT: And I agree about shopping at B&M stores. Just ain't worth it in MOST CASES these days when you can have something dropped at your door in 24-48hrs or sometimes even less. You get as much service at a B&M store as you do online .... which is virtually none at either one which is the same reason that standing in line in the hot sun at Pinellas UPS Store for 20-30 minutes is waste of time and energy ;)
