My 1 year old Yamaha gas cart has a fuel gauge installed by the Villages Golf Carts. Now the oil light on the gauge turned on. I called them about the problem and someone said it might be the battery. Huh?

You checked the oil level, right?

The manual talks about a possible problem with the fuel injection system if the light is flashing. Not that this is your problem (you didn't mention flashing) but apparently the light is connected to more than just an oil level sensor. That being the case, maybe it is sensitive to battery voltage too. It should be relatively easy to check if the battery voltage is low.

A fuel gauge has nothing to do with an oil light sensor.

Did you check the oil on the oil stick?

Unless what he means by battery is an electric problem.

Or you can just schedule an appointment for service, if you bought it from The Villages golf cars you get priority service.

Thank you I have an appointment. The battery seems fine to me starts up beautifully and ran every day.Am I mistaken that red sign is for something other than oil?

It’s my understanding that the fuel gauge on quiet tech PTV’s is factory installed. The red light on the gauge indicates low fuel. If the red light is on and the tank is not low on fuel than the float in the fuel tank might be stuck and need to be released.

Edit: Looking at the picture you attached, it appears the red light has a symbol that is universal for battery/electrical. Since the gauge is hooked up to a power source, it could easily be measuring the voltage and indicating the voltage has dropped below a certain level. A quick test with a multimeter will show the voltage and if the resting voltage is below 12 you could either have a tired battery or a problem with the alternator/stator. New batteries aren’t made with the quality they once were made, so you might just have a bad battery? Good luck

The picture above is definitely an engine trouble light. My understanding this is connected to the EFI, which monitors several engine functions as well as oil level (pressure). This light will also flash a code when the engine stops running, and the code for low voltage is 4 slow flashes followed by 6 fast flashes. The voltage problem can be due to a WEAK battery, a possible charging problem, or a wiring problem.
I actually had the weak battery problem in our 2017 cart with a 4 year old battery. I also just recently had the same code come up and some auxiliary equipment was not working correctly, as well as the oil light occasionally coming on. I found the wiring connection problem, and it seems to have cleared up all of the alarms, the aux equipment that was not working properly, and the oil light coming on.
Hope this helps.

Trying to do all the above suggestions, I am not sure I have a multimeter, have to rummage through garage.

Update: oil level is fine, red light turned off for some reason, Villages golf cart said no worries… ah, the wonders of owning a new (to me) type of vehicle

First step is read the owners manual. This can often answer basic questions, “what does this do, mean, etc.” And, save stress and a service call.

Number of long flashes equals first digit. Followed by number of short flashes equals second digit.

Yes, I’m saving this for next time… just in case.

If your oil is full you have a bad oil sensor, they changed mine it’s on bottom of motor. They did have a problem from 2020

That what I say, HUH. I’m beginning to think that the govt. thinks this is to barbaric. I agree police or someone have to get more physical. Human walls don’t do anything. I won’t say what I think they should do because I know most people wouldn’t like that either but your right nothing will get better if these trouble making protesters aren’t treated more physical.

My neighbor had the same problem last week. 2019 Yamaha with 1,400 miles. I checked everything regarding oil level etc. Finally I replaced the fuel gauge. Light went off. Faulty fuel gauge.

I have an older (2009) Yamaha. The wiring harness for the cart body appears to be an aftermarket item. Wiring was inadequate to the tasks of running the halogen headlights, brake lights, turn signals etc. I put the headlights on their own dedicated, fused circuit, and since then have had no electrical issues at all.

You are absolutely correct I have come across 2 or 3 with the exact same problem, especially with the older halogen or incandescent headlights. The newer LED based headlights use a lot less power.

If, one year old it is under warranty. I would call Villages golf cart. The red light on the fuel gauge is oil pressure. It goes on when you turn the key and step on the accelerator. When the engine first starts, there is no oil pressure so the light will go on. You may not have noticed it before. If, it stays on, the oil may be low easy to check with the dip stick. In any case, it is under warranty and I would call Villages golf cart and not mess with it.

The OP has a Yamaha golf cart with splash lubrication. There is no oil pressure because there is no oil pump - the oil is splashed around via an arm that dips into the oil with each revolution of the crankshaft. The light might be an indication of low oil level in the crankcase.

It is the oil sensor light; mine came on during an extreme rain storm; called carts and clubs and they said the sensor had gotten wet.

You nailed it! That was exactly it. But in the meantime I checked the oil and read the manual and generally followed advice given here. Everything is working as it should. This forum has guided me well many times, including now. Thank you.
