If you can afford a little more, I recommend the DJI mini for beginners.

Whatever you buy, make sure it has a 'return to home' feature running off GPS, else it's 'hasta luego baby'!
Don't ask me how I know.

I wasted money on the “toy” drones before finally buying my first DJI mini. The DJI is a very good starter drone and will provide excellent video and photos. They are super easy to fly and will result in a positive experience for the beginner. You can find them online or local for around $500 and sometimes less.

But does google use them, and give you an ad free honest personal answer from those who have Flown, lost, crashed, and just a great way to spend or waste your money.

Do you need to register the DJI mini, or does it fall under the required specs for registering?

JUNK! Don’t waste your money. I use one similar to it (same drone, different name) in my “Step 1 Done Basics” class at the enrichment academy as an example of what not to buy. If you want to see one contact me and I’ll show it to you and you can be the judge. It is a cheap ripoff and little more than a Walmart checkout lane toy. It their ads that show it doing all kinds of great things, the problem is the drones they are showing are DJI Mavic Pros and and not the one you get. It is intentionally made to look like the DJI drone but it is not even close.

Your best buy for a drone is either the Mini 3, Mini 3 Pro, or Mavic 3 Classic with the RC controller for $609, $909, and $1749 respectively. You can buy them locally at Best Buy or from Amazon.

Don’t believe the hype, for $149 you will get junk, I got mine to use as a course training aid for Ollie’s Outlet in Leesburg for $39.99. One of our drone club members bought one two years ago and brought it to Soaring Eagle ball field to fly for the first time, he left an hour later never getting it in the air (he had lots of experienced help - none of us could get it to work). On his way back to the parking lot, he put the drone in the trash can.

Please email, PM, or call me before you buy, don’t make a mistake.

I have a Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom, low timre, excellent condition, and at attactive prices. The Mavic 3s are newer but much more expensive and do not have many if any more features.

Both great aircraft! I have a M2Z and had a M2P for a while. Still flying the M2Z for the TAN videos. I also have the M3 and Mini3Pro (and 5 others) and have to disagree with you on the features the M3 with the Nov22 firmware update has all the features of the M2P/Z plus more like more quick shots, master shots, cruise control, 3x/4x digital zoom, 40 min flight time, and waypoint missions.
For most flying my M3 is now my go to bird, but I’m not going to give up my M2Z anytime in the foreseeable future.

At the right price, the M2Z/P is definitely a great choice.
