We are noticing the squares, pools, restaurants, etc. etc. are becoming less crowded. Two of our snow bird neighbors left this morning! Why is it in the past week we have seen more gates down than we have in the last few months?
Snowbirds......I think not.

Because they stop working, in the past 2 weeks I have had 3 out going gates that would not open. At 3am it’s a PITA. Then again I have also watched them come down between cars very hard and just fall off. Maybe the pins that hold them on are not the quality as in years past.

Either way it’s dangerous for the carts to try to frogger across roads, because of the amount of cars that don’t stop, or even slow down, coming through down gates

You do realize that snowflakes, snowbirds, part time owners, and those who choose to own multiple homes….STILL read and post when not in TV. So your hypothesis really doesn’t stand true. but I will say since we’ve been using this site since 2007, it has become less about how can I help you, and more about why are you a PIA for posting

Hopefully that means this past Friday was the last I had to worry about being hit upon by the foursome behind us. LOL

Many more Snowbirds will leave May first. True birds rent. The Sunbirds (own here) will go and come during the summer. All is good. The gates are mainly for golf cart safety.

Posted at each gate, the gate closes after each car. People just can’t wait and ride the bumper of the car(s) in front of them.

One car at a time. Let the gate open and close.

Not only that, but who are we going to blame once they've gone.

Gates crashed into--------------------------snowbirds
Driving too fast--------------------------------snowbirds
Driving too slow--------------------------------snowbirds
Can't navigate a RB--------------------------snowbirds
Can't get a tee time---------------------------snowbirds
Waiting at restaurants----------------------snowbirds
Any rude behavior-----------------------------snowbirds
Excessive dog poop--------------------------snowbirds

Guess all those problems disappear May 1 :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Didn't include that since I am unaware of a boatload of businesses that close each summer. The annual expansion and contraction of population is a reality of doing business in Florida.

Plastic nuts are used on gates so that they will pop off if hit by a car. Cheaper than replacing the arm.

Very True, Have, well had a store in Sanibel (hurricane), Sarasota, Naples. We make profits from January thru May. Rest of the year try and break even.

They are waiting for all of the snowbirds to leave before repairing them for the summer.

I like it when the gates are down…. But I always come to a full Stop 🛑. The gate on Pinellas that goes to 466a is really stupid. There is not reason for it… there is no golf cart crossing or driveways. Take it DOWN!

They have always used the plastic bolts, for as long as we have been around in 07. However for gates to fall off all by itself, means either the bolts are not put in properly (which I doubt, due to the amount of repair) or my guess is the bolts themselves are just not made as well.

One of the many jobs done by the Community Watch drivers is to try and reattach the downed gates, if possible. Don't know if this has changed with the new gate maintenance contract.

Someone tell this person what a snowflake is!!!!

A "snowflake" used to describe a Villager's residential status, is someone who comes and goes as time allows...

Sometimes is a few weeks in the winter, sometimes it's in the summer, fall or spring...

It has nothing to do with the term as used to describe those who are butthurt by anything that might offend them...

The wife and I are "snowflakes". I'm able to come down 4-5 times a year, for a few weeks each time, while my wife is able to stay a bit longer, on most visits...

Soon, we'll become frogs... And we'll go back north to the DC area, once in a while, to visit the kids...

And anyone who is offended by the therm "The Wife" is the other kind of snowflake...

The arms need bright yellow flags added to them for visibility.

Replace gates with red lights.

We are snowflakes although we are full time owner and not part time owner. We do not sell the house each time we leave, we own it for the entire year.

Anyway a snowflake comes when they can for a week or two and then returns when they can. For us this means 3-6 weeks a year.

Replace gates with red lights.

I'm surprised at that suggestion. Wouldn't the heat thrown off from all those red lights contribute to global warming??????:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Ha, If they don't stop for the gates, what makes you think they will stop for a light ???

Snowbirds......I think not.

That is because the snowbirds are still competent enough to drive long distances without any accidents.

Another gate that is not necessary is the gate on Morse Blvd., heading south just before 466. The gate is located AFTER the golf cart path so there is no interaction with golf cart traffic at the site of the gate. THEN, just a few yards ahead, is the traffic light at Morse and 466. No need for that gate.
