So, there have been several/many posts about big box store purchases. We just received our 4 kitchen items this weekend. All items being replaced are 20 years old, still working, but prepping the house to sell in a few years while we still have income. Lowes, purchase of range, fridge, dishwasher and microwave. $3,700 before maintenance contract.

* Refrigerator too heavy for the weekend crew to lift up stairs to second floor, so coming back on Tuesday to install. We will have to install the new water line for the new ice maker ourselves. . otherwise, push in place and plug in.

* Range installed by contracted delivery. Wiring done and range had electricity. Upon evaluating his work, he did not tighten the ground/neutral (white/green wired) screw down completely/firmly. wire connectors loose. Range was not level from factory. Installer did not level and we told him to stop, and we would finish the install. He recommended planing the sides of the cabinet.

Range took three hours to finish installing as the new 4 wire 50 amp connection had to be adjusted for the strain prevention holder to be installed correctly, the outlet had to be moved and the tip preventer to be installed. The connection wires are not flexible and took awhile to get flexible to much the range close to the wall.

* Microwave (holy crap! ) 1 cup of water boiled in 1:45 and the prior took 3-4 minutes. Took four hours of our time to install overhead of the range. . Getting the new cabinet holes drilled in the correct location with the template, and aligning the bolts, adjusting the internal blowers for room exhaust, putting in the aluminum ledger, lifting and holding in place for bolting, etc.

* Dishwasher took three /four hours as the drain hose hole to the sink had to be relocated, and the new supply line of 48" isn't sold in stores anymore, so had to buy a 60" and lots of extra unneeded parts for a universal installation kit (increased revenue and parts waste). Attaching dishwasher to cabinet sidings was a rube goldberg device, had to use our own screws as the provided screws where too small . . Alignment was heck as the original house cabinets aren't aligned properly, so dishwasher looks crooked under granite countertop. However, test run directions took two hours and we left to go golfing after 30 minutes. . no leaks.

Recommendation for ranges is to have the electrical install checked by an electrician if you aren't handy. Have a plumber / electrician / contractor perform dishwasher install as it can get tricky with multiple lines. Supervise and go slowly with any modifications to the house recommended by installer. We could have done the range ourselves, but store policy is to install wiring and test. .

Overall score, B, but not finished yet.
