I had those things and worse happen to me as a school student. My ear was pulled so hard once the skin tore and I bled.
Since I was an "active" child, my parents were happy teachers were showing me some discipline.
Times have really changed. Maybe a little bit for the better, or not.

I know of at least 3 Catholic nuns and 2 Catholic brothers who should be behind bars for the times I got slapped around. Problem is they have all passed away. You know there is some truth in "spare the rod, spoil the child." We see it all the time with teens firing guns at one another on a regular basis.

You know Special Needs Children is just that, they need special attention, & it’s not abuse. Anybody that teaches knows teaching is tough. You get frustrated but we all know you can’t physically correct any kind of child by pulling hair or ripping the ears off of a child with special needs. If your Special Needs children don’t behave like you want, remember they’re Special Handicaped children. Yea Catholic schools & Military schools are tough too but if you can’t handle a child without hair pulling or twisting ears, maybe a hard core prison is more down your ally!

Why? The teens are just abiding by the spare the rod, spoil the child. Their fellow teens act out, then they will face disciplinary action. At the end of an AR-15. They're just taking what they're taught by adults, to a more permanent level.
They were TAUGHT to do this by adults. You want to get guns out of the hands of teens, then demonstrate that you can enjoy life without a gun.

I hate the demonization of teachers in the present environment. Of course this teacher should not be in the classroom, but the great great majority of teachers are empathetic, wonderful people trying to help kids.

As I understand it teachers need special training to deal with so called special needs children whose behavior can be a nightmare with which to deal. Much of the time attempting to communicate and obtain cooperation with the parents or guardians of such children is impossible. Although special ed teachers are additionally compensated for their difficult and challenging work you could not pay me enough. Some special ed teachers have been brutally attacked and beaten by their students. Here is an example sample which hospitalized the teacher. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QV8yb3_T51g

I used to visit with a teacher from Summerfield, Florida quite often during the weekends. There are bad and good teachers like in every profession. She used to describe some of their actions to us especially when she had an audience that included at least one retired teacher. This one was from the northern part of Ohio.
What this one did was way beneath the standards of her profession.
