Most epic quote in the piece:
“But wait,” the PicklePushers wail. “It’s America’s fastest-growing sport!”

So what? The Diphyllobothrium is a fast-growing tapeworm. Doesn’t mean I want it.

So do I! I have to giggle at players in a softball dugout and for 7 innings all they talk about is pickleball.

2009 and I joined 2008. That is when people went to Crispers on a Friday evening. People actually got to know each other. It was also when there was a Political site and huge arguments used to happen over there. Times are very different now, but for the most part still a great site.

Very funny article....especially "Remember, kids: Every time you see a new pickleball court open, an orthopedist gets a new boat.".....

Just remember the three "Ps" in The Villages....Never buy a house near the POOP station, not under POWER LINES, and definitely not next to a PICKLEBALL COURT....

If they do get offended, it will probably be an emotional breakdown.:rant-rave:

I was just a lurker back in those times.
Being a Brit, I learnt a lot about American politics, and like most politics, how divisive they can be.
As you say, it was entertaining though.

Funny! I read an article yesterday that said that Europeans consider pickleball to be a game for wimps. The big new game there is Padel, which is like a combination of pickleball and racketball. Imagine the pickleball court having high walls all around it, and you can bounce the ball off any wall in the course of play. Not recommended for the weak of heart, the slow, or the awkward.

I played in the PB Seniors in Zephyr Hills in December and they had Padel. I had no idea what the courts were. It's like a cross between platform tennis and jai'lai. Check it out on YouTube...crazy...

Rick Reilly is a funny guy. I'm deeply offended. He mentioned the torn achilles. I tore mine the very first time I ever played PB...yet, like an idiot, I returned. Now I have "pickleball elbow", yet, like an idiot, I continue to play around it. What else am I going to do?

Reilly is really in his wheelhouse when he writes about golf. I'm sure he offended a few when he wrote "Commander in Cheat".

That's pretty much platform tennis, which is way more fun and requires much more athleticism than pickleball.

I played platform tennis for many years. I wouldn't say it requires more athleticism than PB, and I wouldn't say it's more fun.

Padel looks to me as though it requires more athleticism than PB or Platform, but I've never tried to play it, so that's just an impression.

If you ever go by the platform tennis courts the only people in them are practicing pickleball.
