Should be free from your car insurance if small repair

My understanding is that all car insurance in FL must cover it. As far as places to go, Big Johns Custome gets good reviews.

We had a very good experience with Safelight. Our cameras had to be recalibrated and they took care of all of that, no charge. Without insurance it would have been a total of $1200.

In my understanding, FL law requires FL car insurance to include windshield coverage, HOWEVER it will be YOUR insurance that will be covering the cost to repair/replace the windshield. With this understanding, I would contact my insurance company to see who they recommend, and or have worked with. I would also ask about the possibility of a rate increase due to the insurance claim.

Some companies do not increase your rates for a comprehensive coverage claim. We are with Travelers and they do not raise rates for these types of claims. Ask your agent.

In most cases the insurance company will send the insured to a shop and the shop will get paid by the insurance company.

As I understand it, insurance "agents" are merely salespeople. They sell policies and can shop around for different insurance companies. But, they do not participate in setting rates or in determining whether a policyholder's premium will increase, decrease, or be cancelled based on a claim. I think that some agents like to pretend that they know more than they do to impress their customers. But, all decisions about premium rates are made at the insurance company headquarters. The agent has nothing to do with it and is not consulted or kept in the loop. When I switched from Allstate to State Farm because of a 32 percent increase, my Allstate agent for 27 years said that there was nothing he could do and advised me to make the switch. At least he was honest.

Amazing how many people answer the question they think the OP should of ask rather than the question ::Lol::

Like someone mention, be wary of any claim.
Sometimes one claim is enough to raise your premiums.
(What's the sense of being insured?)

Also, my son had two cracked windshields in one month on his 6 month old
Toyota truck in Florida and was told his insurance WILL NOT cover a third time.

Call your insurance company and start the claim they will direct you on who is on their approved list. In FL it cost you $0.00 to fix.

Terrible experience with Safelite. Contacted them about windshield replacement. Said they would order one. 3 weeks later they texted me a date and continued to text me daily to remind me how important it was to be on time. Finally on appointed day I arrived 15 minutes early and I’m to,d my windshield didn’t arrive. I said why was I texted so many times and they said those are automated and they have no control. So couldn’t you call me to cancel my appointment? Here’s the kicker! Our windshields arrive after we’re closed at night and we don’t know what came in until we come in in the morning. I said can’t you check the computer and was told their computer can’t access the delivery computer. That was it cancelled them and went with Community Collision In Leesburg. Had my car done in three days.

I've used Safelite twice, once for a lot of stone pits, another for a crack. No charge.

Last year I had same problem & contacted Orange Blossom Auto Glass. They did adequate job, but later found they had billed insurer 2 or 3 times what the repair should have cost. Contact insurer first & they will refer you to a shop.

I had a great experience with Safelite in Leesburg. They were open on Sunday morning, we were the first appointment, in and out in two hours, including recalibrating the cameras. No charge. Nice waiting room with refreshments.

I've had bad experience with Safellite too. If you call your insurance company they will most likely give you the phone number for Safelite Solutions which obviously is a subsidiary of Safelite Glass. I needed a replacement, not an epoxy patch, and they ordered it 3 times, each time was a problem. They kept me hanging for weeks and weeks. I finally asked Safelite Solutions for another glass company. They reluctantly agreed. Can't remember the name but they came out of Tampa within a week and replaced my side glass in my driveway. Windshields are usually covered in full, side or rear glass usually have a deductible. Turns out that the after market glass company that Safelite uses was out of stock of my window in the US and Saflite did not want to obtain an OEM part. They make less profit if they use OEM. So they kept stringing me along with "wrong part received", "part was damaged in shipment", "part was lost in transit", etc.
If your glass was tinted, you now have a second problem. Glass companies don't do tinting. Insurance companies will tell you the tint is not covered. THAT IS NOT TRUE. There is no exclusion in your policy that says tinted glass is not covered.
My experience: Stay away from Safelite. They lie to customers. Our friend had a better experience with windshield replacement but was coaxed into buying windshield wiper lifetime coverage. What's up with that? They got money out of her. Pure UPSELL.

Hope this helps.

I've used Safelight 3 times. Once for a windshield replacement, twice for chips.

All 3 times, everything went smooth as glass (:D) and my insurance (Geico) paid the bill...

My experience with safelight wasn't so good. Had an older car and they came out and removed the old windshield and found rust and said they won't replace the windshield and left me with a car at my house with no front glass! I sanded the rust and painted and they still wouldn't put in a new windshield. Meanwhile they were the ones a number years ago the previously replaced the windshield and must not have sealed it well to not have it rust. Another company came out and replaced it no problem.

A lot of the window tinting is excessive and is illegal. Insurance policies will not pay for any repair or replacement of illegal equipment. So depending on the level of tinting, it may not be covered.

I've not checked but I suspect SAFELIGHT SOLUTIONS is not SAFELIGHT GLASS. If sounds like someone is attempting to STEAL someone else's advertising and reputation.

I don't know how large the crack is, but I had a stone impact my windshield, the damage was about the size of a dime along with some spider cracks around it. I ordered a windshield repair kit from amazon, about $15.00. The repair eliminated about 95% of the damaged area, and still holding for about 18 months now.

They may not increase your insurance policy, but it is an incident on your policy. You should wait, especially .They may not increase your insurance policy, but it is an incident on your policy. You should wait, especially if it’s a small crack for a while as they keep building here in TV. There will be many more cracks in your windshield as long as they continue to build.

While getting my oil changed at Honda of Ocala, a salesperson from Pristine Auto Glass Ocala noticed I had a small crack in my windshield, but it required the windshield be replaced. Pristine Auto Glass of Ocala came to my home the next day and replaced windshield. The following day came back to recalibrate the safety settings (lane assist). Pleased with their service. Phone is 772-800-7589.

Insurance will pay for either repair or replace on a windshield without any cost to the owner.

Had a small crack on one of our cars, glass company came to house and repaired it and never had a problem. Also about a dime size.

I called Big John’s. They do not have any resin in stock for their machine. It has been on back order for 6 months. No idea when it wil be in. I called SafeLite and they will be here to do the repair on Tuesday morning in my driveway, no charge as insurance covers the approx $75 charge.

I don't think they told you the truth about the resin being on back order for 6 months. Unless it is something very exotic, there is plenty of windshield repair resin in stock on Amazon.

A kicked up rock on 301 chipped my windshield. Last broken windshield was 20 years ago. Fortunately, in the great state of Florida, windshields are covered, free to the car owner, for one replacement per year. I;m in the office calling up the windshield company when my secretary yells out to hang up. Asks what happens if next week a rock cracks the windshield instead of chipping it. I would have used my "one" annual windshield replacement. This explains why there are so many broken windshields in a state where windshield replacement is mandatory coverage.
