View Full Version : A new "Documentary" on TV... This time it's positive...

I stumbled across this guy on YouTube. He travels all over, documenting about how different people live.
He spent a day in TV (I think it was a few weeks ago, on Kentucky Derby Saturday), traveling around with a 3 year veteran Villager (lives in DeLuna?) and he was pleasantly surprised at what he found...
It's a bit long, but quite comprehensive...
Yes, the woman giving him the tour made a slight mistake or two with her info, but nothing significant...

I can't imagine how anyone could spend 1 day in TV and write anything close to "comprehensive".

Watched this video last night. Good job, overall. If you know anyone interested in learning about TV this is a good place to start.
He does amazing videos all over the world. I have watched a few of them over the past couple of years.

I only watched half of the video and really enjoyed it, so far. It's refreshing to see someone actually attempting to understand The Villages, instead of basing their theme upon what they have "heard" from folks that don't even live here and may have some sort of agenda. Nice video. Kudos to the guy making this video.

Nicely produced snapshot from the perspective of very sweet new Villager.

I thought it was great. Yes she made a mistake or two but I thought it was a good tour.
I refer to my vehicle as a golf "cart". The only people I've ever heard refer to them as "cars" are the people who sell them.

Overall, I give her an A-/B+...
She stated, several times that she doesn't work for TV and that she might be wrong on certain things...
My favorite was when they walked past the Citizen's Bank and she pointed out the "Founded in 18XX" sign... It was cute that she didn't realize that all of those signs are made up... It's the "Disney Influence"...

could care less about the stone throwers. Tv is an economic boom to the surrounding communities and the state of florida. Our actions speak louder than their envious words

No problem........ a go cart was first noted in an 1850's painting of a child being pulled and pushed in a wagon looking item
In the 1950's, race car people took a small frame and put a lawn mower engine on it. at that point they were renamed Go-Karts. no C but a K
A cart/kart can transport a load, golf bag, or ONE individual
A car can transport multiple people and larger loads
Yes a shopping cart can transport 2 children but, it doesn't have a motor unless you want to hum zoom, zoom along the way...could do the same with pushing your golf cart if desired
but don't let your partners hear you, you won't need to do that in your golf car, I don't think
go-karts have a horn
happy to educate you.........and yes the villages has it wrong....its a golf car community
not a golf cart community.....obviously appealing to the slang form for understanding
Can you please explain "Go-Carts"?

What a wonderful and upbeat video - The Villager from DeLuna was a delight —loved her positive and upbeat energy - reminds me of my neighbors in Richmond, and others south of 44.
Though there were a few slightly incorrect facts, I think this video is one of the more accurate and realistic depictions of The Villages - I sent this link to many of my friends back in Colorado to give them a better picture of TV, rather than those sensational and nasty rumor-filled videos out there.
This is such a wonderful community with positive energy and people that want an activity-filled retirement. I often forget I’m in a 55+ retirement development, as most people are so active and vibrant here. Retirement is the best! 😀

The filmmaker's reactions were very typical of the reactions I have seen from younger people (and older people) when I've shown them around.
My son is in his mid-40s, and of course he gave me some good natured ribbing when I told him we were buying a place in TV and would be spending our winters (well, more like 7 months) here. But when he came here with his two small children they were all impressed, and they all had a great time, and they look forward to returning.
My son is a ski coach and a swimmer, and a fitness fanatic, and while I am not a fanatic about it, he expressed admiration for all of the people he saw getting out, and exercising, whether it was seeing people swimming, or playing volleyball, or pickleball, or even some of the slower, less strenuous activities like bocce, or shuffleboard. And he was very happy to see me and DW pickling, and swimming and having so many active friends.
I think it releases them from the burden of worrying about us to some degree to see the folks moving and being physically, mentally, and socially active.
We've had 3 of our 5 children down and they love it for themselves, but they also love it for us. It's a very nice feeling.
