It's polka dot.
But now that you mention it......just yesterday, I was wondering if it is all told or all tolled.

I vote for Polka Dot.... Poke a Dot will get you a poke in the nose in my neighborhood!
And by the way, is it Pat-a-Cake, Patty Cake, or Paddy Cake?

Definitely polka dot. And I'm with you, uptown, if you poke the dot around me, you're apt to get your poking finger slapped.
If you have a paddy cake, you're probably Irish. Or maybe it's a very sweet rice cake? A patty cake would probably be made out of meat. According to the nursery rhyme, it's pat-a-cake.

Many moons ago a traveling homeless man corrected us on 'fort' instead of 'for-TAY'

Barring snow in the Va mountains, rising sea levels on the Georgia Coast, and a sunken Lake Sumter bridge, we hope to arrive by noon Thursday

Does this help?:icon_wink:
My hat is old.
My teeth are gold.
I have a bird I like to hold.
My shoe is off.
my foot is cold.
And now my story is all told. (One Fish Two Fish- Dr. Seuss)

Hi Uptown Girl, I do thank you,
For sharing Theo Geisel's clue.
But, alas, I must confess,
The doc does not my angst address.
Word-loving types are of a feather,
And will choose told, not asking whether,
Their number-loving friends prefer,
Tolled -- to the count, they could defer.

I was told that a story was told; a bell was tolled (counted the whatever); and the statute of limitations was tolled (time has run out). Don't know about you, but I have no intention of counting the words, lines and sentences in a story even if it does have a definite ending. I also can't imagine ringing the book's pages. That leaves the story was all told (out), IMHO.
