I heard from my moving company that there are villages that they can’t access their moving trucks, and therefore, are considering possibly charging me more to get smaller trucks and shuttle my personal belongings to my house! What villages are these?

Why not ask the moving company? Personally, I don't think the company is being honest with you.

I don’t know of any villages that can not be reached by truck, perhaps the historic side, there may be some courtyard villa neighborhoods that tractor trailers can not access, they would require a shuttle. Almost all deliveries to the villages will require a long carry charge.

I am GUESSING they may be concerned about the villas locations, these have narrow roads and very limited parking with closely spaced driveways. As noted above I would ask the movers for more specific information.

When we moved to TV, the moving truck had a very difficult time with the turns that had to be negotiated in our neighborhood. At that time the lots on the outside edge of the road had no houses on them. The driver had to pull way into those empty lots in order to back his trailer where it needed to be. If he tried to do that today with all the houses we have now, he would have to shuttle our furniture. One of the problems he had was that the tractor portion of the 18 wheeler had a very long chassis and required wide turns. The driver wasn't a novice trucker, he had been in the business for a lot of years.

Yes, certain areas of certain villages large moving trucks can’t navigate streets. Some are near LSL, and some of the veranda neighborhoods, trucks have had to off load to smaller trucks to deliver to some addresses.

So did you ask if your house is in that neighborhood? Are you moving within TV? Is the company just guessing, and trying to charge more? If so find a moving company that uses a smaller truck.

consider a local moving company. They have the right sized trucks for the job

None of the Villages prevent moving vans, some residential areas outside the Villages prohibit trucks over 26000 GVW thus requiring the mover to hire smaller trucks to deliver those prohibited areas.

All the more reason for "newbies" to sell their stuff before moving here, and to start anew. Most furniture from homes in the north does not fit in well with the Florida ambiance.

If a moving truck can't get there, how will a fire engine?

True. I think it’s a case by case basis. Some of those extra long semi’s can’t make the tight turns of some streets, unless you want them driving over someone’s lawn. That happened to me in a move elsewhere, and unloading everything into a box truck for the last mile is expensive because of the labor involved.

It really should not be a problem, my moving truck only knocked down 1 street sign when they were backing out!

Funny how the dump trucks, delivery trucks, concrete trucks, cranes, etc. go in those neighborhoods to build the houses but the moving trucks can't.

Have you ever been in the historic neighborhood? It’s like a regular place with more open space than some of the posh areas.

Given the apparent track record of moving companies I would suggest finding a mover who doesn't have to handle your items mid move. We have had a good experience with PODS where your items are not mixed with that of other customers. You might also
consider bringing less stuff.

The are NOT lying. BIG trucks CANNOT make it under the mature trees in the older neighborhoods.

Come on…totally different equipment. Really? Fire truck is not a semi-truck.

I agree, but doesn't the mover's statement sound a little wishy-washy?

"considering possibly charging me more". I would want some clarification before I signed a contract.

Agree. Full-sized moving trucks, e.g.: Mayflower, are just too big for patio villa areas. We live in a PV and have seen two tractor trailer movers come in and both have caused yard damage, including breaking sprinkler heads, when they’ve made the turns at the short end of the rectangle.

We live on a cul-de-sac and when the semi-tractor rig left the driver insisted he could navigate the cul-de-sac. Well, he did some damage to neighbor's lawns and went over driveways, but amazingly he made it around!

Really ? Why would that be ? Not arguing the point, but if a person does, as we did, moved from a 2800 sf home to a 2100 in Florida, we just brought the furniture from two BR, not all 4 ! How does "ambiance" even apply ? Thought most everyone was like we are, that we have our own idea of "ambiance", the style that fits us, the color wood we prefer in furniture, etc. etc. Can't even imagine, at the prices today for for furniture of MUCH less quality, why someone would think the particle board backs and drawer bottoms, and NON dove tail construction is "ambiance" or quality ? ? Just don't get the "connection" between a person asking a legitimate questions concerning WHICH areas of the villages may (or may not?) be able to accommodate a full size moving van, and an answer that says (WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING which villages) that's a very good reason to LEAVE all your furniture (and I'm just guessing of much higher quality than the foreign imports and their distinct "smell") and because it (their furniture) does not fit their "ambiance" ? ? Strange. Perhaps by "ambiance" is meant the run of the mill "tropical" look we see in every Florida motel. That is not for everyone for sure !

Thirteen years ago we used PODS - and it worked beautifully. I will tell you (from hindsight) that I still come across things that I've never used or "aren't right" for this climate/our newer lifestyle - and I have to give away/throw away so that I can now utilize the valuable space it took up around here!
