Occasionally, I run across a good cheese in the stores around here. Yesterday, I scored some Point Reyes Original Blue Cheese in the Grand Traverse Plaza Publix near Brownwood. I just thought that someone, who is willing to pay $10.59 for 6 ounces of a really good blue cheese, would like to know. I left some for you.

I like sharp cheddars. As a youngster, my grandmother would give us "Coon" cheese. It was probably a brand name. Good stuff, IIRC.

I'm not a huge fan of blue cheese but I may just have have to try it. As a reciprocal FYI, one of my favorites is the smoked Gouda at Sam's Club.

I always look at the cheeses at Sam's Club. Pre-Covid, they used to sell wedges of Fromager d'Affinois. It's a soft, creamy, French cheese, akin to Brie. I wish they'd bring it back.

If you like blue cheese, you might enjoy Roquefort. The Société brand is my favorite. I think I have seen it in Publix. Roquefort is a protected EU designation and is produced in the caves of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon.

Yes, thanks. I usually have some Societe Roquefort Cheese or some Boar's Head Creamy Blue Cheese on hand, both from Publix.

Every time I hear the word Roquefort, I think of Kraft Roka Blue. I know it wasn't made with Roquefort, but I miss those little jars.

Fresh Market has a much broader variety than Publix for cheeses. Many of the usuals, but some less known or less popular ones as well. They have a really nice nutty baby swiss that melts like butter in a toasted cheese sandwich. They have several goat cheeses and a bunch of different brie options plus imported camembert from Normandy. The St. Clemens havarti is to die for when it's in stock.

Fresh Market has a much broader variety than Publix for cheeses. Many of the usuals, but some less known or less popular ones as well. They have a really nice nutty baby swiss that melts like butter in a toasted cheese sandwich. They have several goat cheeses and a bunch of different brie options plus imported camembert from Normandy. The St. Clemens havarti is to die for when it's in stock.

Sometimes I stop at Fresh Market to look for certain items. I also look at the cheeses. A few years ago, I found some Humboldt Fog and I think it was there that I found some Stinking Bishop.

If you like Blue cheese search out St Agur. Whole Foods usually has it. We think is is better and less expensive than Oregon made Rouge River, the world champion for several years.

TOTV seems kinder and friendlier today.
My friends kind of look down on my favorite cheese, which is Port Salut. Semi Soft and mild. If you wish to try it, ONLY buy it cut from the wheel. Publix and others sell wedges vacuum packed. Not worth it. Wholefoods will cut it fresh from a wheel.

I like the Tillamook brand cheeses. Pretty good for a supermarket brand. Their ice cream is excellent too.

I didn't know that. I have been mixing 8 oz of softened cream cheese with 1/4 cup of crumbled blue cheese to approximate Kraft Roka Blue. You might want to add a couple tblsp of water to thin it.

Publix sells wedges of BelGioioso Asiago in their deli area. They also carry Cracker Barrel slices and chunks elsewhere.

Meanwhile, I picked up some of that Point Reyes blue recommended up-thread. When it cut so smoothly I was worried. I've had "creamy" blue cheese from other brands and I really don't like the flavor, it's always more like - brie with blue veins in it, rather than that sharp, tangy flavor throughout that I love so much. But this was really delicious.

I'll be putting it on my cheeseburger tonight for supper.

Got it at Sprouts, it was $8.49 for the wedge. (edited because I verified the price on my receipt - it was definitely $8.49 for the 6-oz wedge).

They also had bananas at 49 cents a pound, and I picked up some dried apricots and prunes to make filling for my hamentashen. Got some vine-ripe tomatoes for $1.49/lb and a yellow onion, I can't remember what I paid for it.

In my younger years I had the pleasure of working in a family operated cheese factory in Wisconsin.
At Christmas time they would bust out the 5 year aged Brick Cheese from the cooler vaults.
Special seasoned employees were only allowed to slice, weigh, and wrap those Brick cheese blocks that were designated for special customers only for the holidays.

We, as employees were given small samples of this Aged Brick cheese if we wanted them, which I did.
The most elegant, creamy, delectable cheese one could ask for...not to mention it stunk to high heaven and
back !!
I would cherish my sample and slice it thin for the top of hamburgers and on top of a finished grilled ribeye.
Nothing like it in this world !

I really miss the Hickory Farms stores. They always had a great variety, and samples! It was at the mall, not just during Christmas but a permanent store. It was always crowded on weekends. Mom would take us to the mall several times a year for clothes and lunch at Frank's (a slice of Sicilian pizza and a small Coke, and a single scoop of lemon Italian ice in a paper cup for dessert). We'd always stop by Hickory Farms for samples, a small Summer Sausage, and a 1/2 pound of a Smoky Bar (smoked cheddar/swiss blend or something like that).

Limburger is another cheese that I keep an eye out for. I found it once in Publix. Limburger on rye bread with onions makes a nice sandwich.

Decades ago, I used to make Liederkranz and onion sanwiches. I miss it.

It appears that Chalet Cheese Coop of Wisconsin is trying to bring back Liederkranz. They also make a Limburger. Come the fall, I'm going to try ordering some stuff from them. They don't ship in hot weather.
