Is there a drop off place for hazardous materials? I have some chemicals I’d like to dispose of ex. Lacquer thinner, brake cleaner etc.

Throw it in the garbarge. We burn everything now…the incinerator will eat it up

Sumter county has a dump site, for many items, you can contact Sumter County and figure out what you have and what you can easily get rid of (I had several gallons of old gasoline), there was no cost, except for me to drive to the site, off county 470 if i rember correctly.

Info on Village Community Development Districts (https://www.districtgov.org/) indicates not to do this.

and.... we can then all breathe it in, oh, that's right, they told us they would "scrub" it first, before letting it out for us to breathe in, forgot that part !

If you are a resident if Lakeview county, you can drop it off on Tues or Saturday at the convenience center on Rolling Acres. The fluid have to be in a sealed container such as the original package.

Going out on a limb here and saying not a funny joke. T V HAM Radio Club had a guest speaker from the trash collection services go into detail on how T V trash is processed. If your suggestion is not a joke please reach out to them on risks for WORKERS at the trash processing plant associated with such a suggestion. It is hardly a lol topic as many people are uneducated enough to think it is OK to do that.

OP here, after making several phone calls the end result is that you can only dispose of chemicals 3 times a year. Other than that you’re F’d. I even asked where I could take them and pay to dispose of them. Nothing! I have a metal gallon can of lacquer thinner that is leaking.

You should be able to buy an empty metal gallon can from ACE, Lowes or Home depot. Transfer the contents from the leaking container, and properly label the new container, then you should be able to hold for proper disposal.

Good idea, before I down sized I would have had a container that I could have used, but I got rid of most everything I could have used.

Proper Disposal of these chemicals is good for the environment. Get the right information and bring it to them. You have probably had this stuff for a long time so holding it for the proper disposal dates should not be a big deal.
