I suspect connectivity to Eastport and Middleton had a lot to do with it......don't think the turnpike was the driver.

Probably helping to pump over two billion dollars a year into the local economy.

Very pretty drive, four lane divided highway with the traffic calming design makes it a much safer relative to the old 470 drag strip.

McNeil will be a faster path from Meggison via the Sawgrass bridge when that road is complete.

Well, the previous route down Marsh Bend to 470 was a straight shot south and then a straight shot east. The temporary junction there was poorly designed and dangerous, but at least you did not have go through the maze that's there now. And I guess the traffic on 470 east has to go through the same maze now.

We never liked going down 501 and turning left on 470 to reach the turnpike because, like you, we thought the cars and trucks treated it like a drag strip.

We will see if the "traffic calming design" of the new road will work, or if the locals will treat the several roundabouts and curves like the drivers did in the Monaco Grand Prix last week.

No, 470 east is intact to MBT so Eastport and the new schools can be bypassed as a straight shot.

Turn right just before the roundabout at the end of MBT.

There are 2-3 new roundabouts planned for MBT with widening to 4 lanes. Looks like (some?) southbound road will have bypass lanes.

while strange @ first, it's a significant improvement to what was there :ho:

Came across 470 coming back from Tampa yesterday. Design isn't about thru traffic, its about connecting the various parts of the new parts of the Villages when everything is completed down south. I believe it will really be nice when done. A lot safer than what was there before.

The new issue will be truck traffic heading east towards Leesburg from I-75. That commercial traffic may not enjoy the calming effect of the "new" 470.

Perhaps there will be a new direct route farther south.

I'm sure they will. Good luck keeping those tractor trailers and dump trucks in their own lanes. I also see many of them rolling over!

Why should they be any different than any of the roundabouts?

It is a retorical question.

They did not make it as an expedited way to the turnpike, it is a local main road to go by more neighborhoods and expanded Villages. It just happens to stop at hwy 470 which has an on ramp to the turnpike

The new roundabouts should not be "be any different than any of the roundabouts", but I suspect the drivers will be different.

My friend Billy-Bob who lives in Sumterville and works in Leesburg is used to driving home at 60 mph along 470. He has been on a top secret assignment in Germany for the last six months, and when he gets home he will expect to resume his old driving habits.

I think the traffic in the new roundabouts may be very different from what we experience in the 'old Villages'.

Boy, all those new roads with new names and new places. Been here for over 19 years (in Bonny Brook near 466) and don't have a clue what you are all talking about. :o:o

Used it this morning coming in from the west.

To go north on Marsh View, you have to first turn right (south), go through a traffic circle to point you north, and then you are on your way.

A little inconvenient from that perspective, but I'm sure I will like it much more when I want to get to the turnpike. As others have said, turning left into a road where everyone is moving 55+ often required you to gun it to make the merge and not get rear-ended or T-boned. Not very safe when the road is wet.

Probably all of the new roads will have 35 mph speed limits, which is the speed limit on Morse, Buena Vista, and Meggison.

And of course no one will pay attention to that.
