Don’t worry, Community Watch has it all on film. They can help you with your claim. There are cameras at every gate and they operate 24/7

How would that help?

How would that help?
It could show the gate dropping down on the car and prove that the car didn't hit the gate?

How would that help?
It would also show if the driver attempted to follow the vehicle in front of him through the gate instead of waiting to activate the button when it became his turn. I'm certain each of us has seen that move take place.

He was ‘exiting’….there is no button to push….sounds like the proximity sensor malfunctioned

Gates just don’t fall off two 3 inch bolts hold them on. They are timed to closed so you can’t sit there and play cards Just saying

Those "3 inch bolts" are plastic.

Quite possible. Also possible he was “tailgating” and the sensor for the lead car told the arm to come down. The gate near the Pinellas plaza seems to do that sometimes.

Plastic or metal, they are designed to fail to prevent damage to the lifting mechanism. Also reduces damage to vehicles. They are traffic control arms, not vehicle barriers.

Or they were trying to exit on the back of another car. If that's the case then the repairs will be on the OP.

If you are paying for the damages then stop hitting the gates. I haven't hit any so I haven't paid for any.

I would think they reuse the disk or tape that they record on. If you are going to pursue a claim do not wait too long to file.

Metal bolts... plastic nuts.
Correct. Everything is metal: the bolts, the bracket, and the gate arm, BUT the nut that screws onto the bolt is plastic.

I have watched more than one exit gate fall down while rising or lowering. Usually in the wee hours, and community watch moves them off the road.
Had one drop while it was raising, couple weeks ago. It fell to the ground in front of my car. Got out moved it to the side (they are more awkward than heavy), and exited through the gate. I called community watch. 15 minutes later they were placing a stop sign there.

So are you newer to TV? The gates don’t deter anyone from coming in, they help slow the cars, so carts can cross the road. Try crossing St Charles with all 3 gates down. It a live frogger game.

If you had held the red button you could have talked to a monitor and had him check the camera immediately also wheat you do if you knock down a gat that malfunctions so you don't get a bill for repair.

I have also seen this happen when a bicycle speeds through when the gate opens for you and the bicycle trips the gate sensor

Unless there are other documented similar instances to other vehicles, The Villages will allege driver error and deny any claim.
Good luck!

There likely is a little time. There aren’t “disks” per say these days. It’s all on a hard drive.

I am exiting and entering gates between 1-2a through 4a. Not everyone sleeps while it’s dark:mornincoffee:
I wave to the Wildwood patrol car on 44 and BV most mornings.

Who's we? Most of time auto drivers are at fault and they pay for repairs. See past articles on this subject.

I went thru the gate and some clown made a u-turn in front of me and I had to stop and I saw the gate coming down. I moved a little bit forward and the gate reversed. The guy decided not to come into the village and made the u-turn right in front of me, didn't wait until I got thru, which I had the right of way. I can see where people start going thru the gate and then have to stop for a biker or golf cart after the gate and have the gate come down on top of the car or trailer. golf carts do not have the right of way

Yep people need to stop waving golf carts and bicyclist through at the gate. They get use to it and think it’s the norm.

True, but irrelevant in a no fault state like Michigan or Florida.

Not irrelevant in the case of bodily injury or traffic infractions.

When I’m in a golf cart, I do not make eye contact with any car driver as I wait for the traffic to clear. I deliberately look right. Eventually the car driver “gets it” and proceeds through the gate. Car drivers have the right of way. Cart drivers must wait for the traffic to clear.

This is how conversation and discussions evolve. It is normal to go “off topic” in a thread. Keeps things interesting, IMHO.

Absolutely! We aren’t sure what the OP’s previous vocation was, but if they were in entertainment, could this be a “pole dancer” situation? I

Also stopping 2-3 cart lengths away from the intersection seems to help keep auto traffic moving.
