Really interesting documentary/interview about the Duggar family and the IBLP (Institute of Basic Life Principals). It's on Amazon Prime, split into four episodes since it's over 2 hours long total.

It really does explain a WHOLE lot about some of the attitudes of intolerance that have gotten worse over the past 15-20 years in this country.

Is this the Group that created the documentary?? "In addition to adherence to the Bible and Christian ideals, the IBLP considers males, in particular the patriarch of a family, to be superior, whereas females are expected to obey men in every way. This includes in the home, school, workplace, and marriage.."

That's the one, yeah. They're "Quiverfull" cultists. A woman's function is to keep the home and breed - until her body stops allowing her to be pregnant. So basically until having a final kid kills her. Children are the future leaders of the new world order where the entire planet adheres to their doctrine and dogma. They will be the army (they have actual quasi-military training for the boys) that enforces the dominance of blah blah blah blah.

And yes I realize that sounds like a really bad dystopian novel. But it's a real actual thing, and it is the basis of the Duggar Family (19 and Counting, and Josh Duggar who was arrested for sexually abusing at least 5 people - including at least 2 of his own sisters). There are possibly tens of thousands of members of this cult scattered around the country and in several other countries. It was founded in 1961 but it's grown exponentially over the past decade or so.

I prefer comedy. I could not imagine wasting my time on negative cult group drama. But each to his/her choice. Perhaps due to age, the importance and priority of issues does change with age.

There are lots of us who always like learning about new things. Keeps the brain sharp. To the OP, I saw this advertised. I’m watching a great show on Amazon called From. I’ll watch it for sure. I also just watched the Jared from Subway Doc. Really interesting.

There's another movie I plan on streaming. It's called "The Brainwashing of my Dad". It's about a normal guy, a loving father, who became addicted to rightwing hate news and became a different person - angry and paranoid, a right wing fanatic, who became difficult to spend time with. I think many of us have a friend or family member like that.

You are living with the results of that "negative cult group drama." One of them even got nominated for the Arkansas House of Representatives (he lost, but he earned the nomination). Refusing to pay attention to the world around you is how the world can suddenly snatch you up and spit you out. When you're upset because your insurance company says you have to pay $20,000 for a new roof or lose your homeowners insurance, it's because you weren't paying attention. When your granddaughter dies during a difficult pregnancy because her doctor was afraid of being arrested if he gave her an abortion - it's because you weren't paying attention.

When thousands of homeless people show up in your neighborhood because they were kicked out of another place, and this surprises you, it's because you weren't paying attention.

When your taxes go up and you are surprised by the cost of gas, it's because you weren't paying attention.

You can pay attention or not, it's up to you. But don't come here complaining about sudden changes or things that you finally notice are getting bad/unpleasant.

We can all come here if we want. Misery loves company, so scoot over and make room. The party is just getting started. And you know that because you pay attention.

You just described to a T, the guy who shot the black kid last month. Which one, the kid who went to a house and knocked on the door, why was he there? To pick up his little brothers. Only he was one street over, from the correct one.

The shooters grandson said that he and his grandfather used to be close but grew distant in recent years over what he described as his grandfather’s radicalization via conservative media. Ludwig told The Kansas City Star that Lester had “become staunchly right-wing,” going “further down the right-wing rabbit hole as far as doing the election-denying conspiracy stuff and Covid conspiracies and disinformation, fully buying into the Fox News, OAN [One America News Network] kind of line.” Ludwig suggested that the “24-hour news cycle of fear and paranoia” has “radicalized him in a lot of ways.”

I would recommend watching "What Is A Woman". It is by Matt Walsh and was on The Daily Wire, but can now be watched, free, on Twitter and YouTube. It definitely portrays just how crazy certain intolerant groups are; groups who get angry and hostile when asked "What Is A Woman". Definitely recommend watching it.
Matt Walsh is also the author of one of the best selling trans books titled "Johnny The Walrus"

That is an ANTI-trans book, not a trans book. And Matt Walsh IS crazy, intolerant, and gets angry and hostile about trans-gender. He is an alt-right extreme homophobe who was kicked off his first few platforms because of it and is now relegated to spouting his nonsense only on other alt-right media.

Not at all. Duggar had 19 kids. The job of the oldest ones is to take care of the youngest ones, so the mom can get back to being pregnant ASAP. That's how it works in this cult. It is this way by design. Spanking, hitting with switches, punishment, isolation, are all tools used to impose strict obedience in the families - their spirits and wills are intentionally broken during younger childhood so they can be complacent obedient young adults that becomes caretakers for their younger siblings. And so they can be indoctrinated into sincerely believing every bit of insane faux-Christian dogma injected into every thought they have.

And then they go out and run for office in their community - and are elected and popularized. And then they can impose their "tenets" on their constituents in the form of legislation. And then they spread even further to influence others, who enter Congress and Senate, etc. etc. It is incredibly dangerous, and nefarious.

Why is this extreme lifestyle not acceptable but another extreme lifestyle is fine just because you say it is? Maybe we could use more "obedient young adults" and less rabble-rousers.

I never saw Mr. Walsh get angry and yell. Actually all I have seen is the opposite. People screaming at him when he tries to talk with them. Have you watched "What is a Woman". It makes sense and follows logic. As for his book, it does deal with trans issues. He feels children should not have their bodies mutilated when they are far too young to be having such procedures done. When I was a child I thought I was a fire engine. I believe most of the pushback many "progressive" ideals face today is the result of extremes pushing too far. When I practiced (I switched to banking and finance after a few years) we had the DSM2. People who had a type of body dysmorphia were treated as someone having a psychological disorder. Over the years transgender became more common. It was not until it was introduced to children that there was a major pushback. Re Mr. Walsh, his book Johnny The Walrus is written to explain those on the flip side of transgenderism. The side that is against pushing it on children. If you read his book , it does follow a logical train of thought. Speaking as someone who was educated many years ago, I see a similarity between cutting off a 14 year olds breasts and cutting off the arm of someone who would come to me and say they hate their arm. They should not have it. It is not who they are. IMO playing along with someone's psychosis is not helpful to the individual. We are feeding into their delusion. Again, in my view LGBTQIA+ should have stopped at LGB.

Last night after work I read up on Quiverfull and fail to see where they would be a cult any more than other religious sects such as Hasidic Jewish or the more conservative Muslim schools. I recall one of the eight being against it. Catholics are also against most types of birth control. (If interested in learning details about any of the above it would be best to speak to someone that practices the faith. One comment I found somewhat amusing was one of my Iranian friends (Muslim) explaining that birth control is encouraged in some Muslim schools of thought not so much because it is healthier for the woman, but because it helps the woman keep her appearance which pleases the man (sorry ladies, sometimes you just can not win). Anyway, the purpose of the post, I would caution against using words like cult, facist etc so easily.

I agree. I have seen much more INTOLERANCE toward straight families, Judaeo-Christian ideology, Sobriety, and plain old decency. I have to applaud those decent folks that have been tolerant of deviant lifestyles when they really cannot condone them. Having abnormal behavior force fed on our children really requires a lot of patience and tolerance. It is unfortunate that folks today feel that intimacy should be public instead of private where it belongs.

The people he is speaking with get angry, loud, disrespectful. I spend time trying to understand the divide in our country. If people can watch "What Is A Woman" and leave thinking Mr. Walsh was the aggressive disrespectful one, I may as well stop trying to find common ground. Same with the guy "Billboard Chris"... Always polite, quiet, respectful. Yet he's constantly attacked, verbally AND physically, by those who disagree with him...

Because it isn't about The Villages at all. It has nothing to do with The Villages. That's why I created this thread in NON-Villages Discussion. It's about the Duggar Family, and about the IBLP cult, and some general background info about the Quiverful movement.

That's why this documentary is different from all those documentaries about The Villages.

Very interesting to read your logical response/opinion without all the emotionally laden language, that when examined, seems to always be based only on "feelings/emotions", but is almost always short on factual foundation. BTY, I kept EVERY DSM when I made decisions concerning just how much to retain of my private professional library. You are so right, it has been fascinating to compare what has changed, disappeared completely, or now carries a completely description. For what it is worth, I also agree that we should not continue to extend the definitions and create even more categories. Our youth and adults are becoming continually more confused, and it has nothing to do with hate or prejudice and everything to do with the fluidity of long established vocabulary. It will eventually cause a society great difficulty when they no longer have a core vocabulary all can agree on.
