Some pitch and putt holes are longer than the front two tees on some executive and championship courses.

I wish they would post the yardage of the alleged Ace.

What next Minature golf hole in ones, they're watering it down.

We already have the big holes like at El Santiago getting hole in one Photo ops.

I don't understand why anyone would care enough about it to start a poll. Why not let a person be happy.

Well, it's newsworthy to the person who made the hole in one, and the Daily Sun likes to make Villagers feel good and doesn't really care what's newsworthy anyhow. Hijacking this thread a bit, I'd like to know when people shoot their age or better, is the score gross or net? Reading that a some 85 year-old breaks 80 is amazing and humbling, if it's a gross score.

I have played with a few fellow Villagers who have broken their age using their actual gross score. It is an extremely impressive thing to accomplish in my opinion and is on my bucket list, although the odds of it happening are very low unless I move up to the senior tees as I age.

Probably in the minority......................but is any hole-in-one news worthy???

Sorry........I don't think so.

A lucky shot, not NEWS worthy.

I think an eagle on par 5's (assuming from appropriate tees) is more difficult than a hole-in-one.

Have to disagree. I've had hundreds of eagles, most of them from the equivalent of the blue, gold and black tees in TV, but only one hole-in-one

Hundreds? Wow! I assume that most of your eagles were on in two and one putt? Did you hole out from the fairway on any of them.

The hardest score in golf is the double eagle!

In the 21 years on the PGA Tour from 1983 through 2003, there were 631 holes-in-one made, but just 56 double eagles.

Yep. When you think about it, I have about one eagle a month, playing 60-70 par 5’s in that time, and have played for 55 years. So it’s not all that many. Double eagle? Just one 45 years ago, #7 Bethpage Black

I have had more eagles as well...............my point is................eagles take more skill (assuming drive, wood shot, one putt) than a lucky hole-in-one.

Thereby, news worthy skill..............vs. jus a lucky shot is not news worthy.

:024:

An eagle on a par 4 is not news worthy................still a lucky approach shot.

An eagle with no putts, not news worthy.....jus lucky.

Dam, I guess almost half of my eagles aren’t news worthy because they were short irons or wedges holed on the second shot of relatively short par 4’s. They still required a good drive and approach shot, but the approach shot going in the hole definitely involved some luck. The last one was a PW on #7 at Hibiscus.

Sorry, but I think holing out with a wedge or an ace on a par 3 is NOT pure luck---it is an exceptionally good shot that happens to go in. Using that logic, DW contradicts himself since a double eagle would be a "lucky" second shot. As far as #7 hibiscus goes, I played it yesterday and drove it on the green (just white tees since everyone was playing from there). Unfortunately, I missed the 20 footer so I couldn't add to "Mr. Helpful's" "Pinocchio" total.

Hundreds is mighty impressive. Sadly, I'm pretty sure I've had more three putt pars than eagles, even counting the half dozen or so hole-outs. But, like you, only one hole-in-one.

I’m pretty sure I’ve had more 3 putt pars also. In fact, my pro and I have an ongoing 3 putt par contest going for the last 7 years. It’s pretty much tied at about 150 each

A three putt par is a result of playing the wrong tees.....not how golf was designed.

That's what this poll is all about.......very short par three being excited about a hole-in-one. Someone is playing too far forward if they get a par after a three putt.

I can move forward and reach par fives in two (some in one) and par fours in one all the time......resulting in aces, eagles and double eagles. News worthy, nope. Not golf for me.

Oh dude, an ace is luck no matter what you tell yourself. Since all skill level golfers get hole-in-ones.......one could say good shot (and many do when it happens) but luck was involved.

What did I say about double eagles?? :read:

What next Minature golf hole in ones,

Way back when, I use to play Putt-Putt golf with some pros (yes there are pros). A good score would be between 19-21 on 18 holes. That comes to 15-17 hole in ones. The place where I played had 4 18-hole courses and was open 24 hours a day...

No as a hole in one on a pitch and putt is not a hole in one.

See the rules of golf.

I think the more relevant question is, should pitch and puts and putting courses be counted in the number of available golfing holes in the Villages? My answer would be a resounding NO! They are not representative of real golf and distort and discredit the reported number of legitimate golf holes! Including Executives is already a stretch.

SHIBUMI

A golf hole is defined as having a tee area and green area with a hole. The odds of making a hole in one from 25 yards is 100-1.
when you double the distance, 50 yards, the odds triple to 300-1. When 50 becomes 100, the odds become 900-1. And so on.
If you were betting a horse at 100-1 and it won, that would be noteworthy, anything at 100-1 odds and more IS Noteworthy, unless you are a snob.
