I just love how the media either passively or actively colludes with certain powers that be to push an idiotic narrative.
If you have the WFTV channel 9 weather app, the banner at the top of the hourly forecast reads "Tuesday set global record for hottest day ever" OMG!!!! The climate change weenies must have been right all along!!! Chicken Little, the sky is falling!!!!
Until..... you click on it and find out it was the hottest global temperature since 1979
In other words, for all the misguided climate change believers out there, IT WAS HOTTER ON A DAY 44 YEARS AGO THAN IT WAS YESTERDAY. So much for the inexecrable temperature rise that is steadily leading us to extinction.
Yet, the media and those in power that will benefit from spending $100 TRILLION on this folly just go merrily along pushing their false narrative. But what's worse is that the force can have a profound effect on the weak-minded.

It’s not collusion it’s click-bait. It’s all about the number of clicks they can get. There is no such thing as news anymore.

I believe you misread the article. No one (other than you) said it was hotter 44 years ago than it was yesterday, they are saying one particular way of measuring temperature was first used in 1979. That particular measure shows that 1979 was cooler, 2016 held the previous record, and the record was broken yesterday.

Partially true. But it seems that they are always seeking those clicks from pushing a certain narrative------ one that the media, university professors and so-called bicoastal elites all tend to support.

That's NOT what they stated.
Let's walk everyone through this the easy way, my fault for skipping from A to C
The headline stated hottest day ever. The article said hottest day since 1979. Simple logic states that if yesterday was the hottest day since 1979, there were hotter days in or before 1979.
Now, if they started using one particular metric for temperature in 1979, 44 years of this "record" proves absolutely nothing in a cycle of 4.5 million years. And I would suggest (not prove) that other metrics might have a different result, but this one was cherry picked to push their false narrative

Your "simple logic" breaks down when you read the article and see that the records only go back to 1979.
As for 4.5 million years, I assume that is based on "proxy data" similar to that mentioned in the articles that say yesterday may have been the hottest in 125,000 years.
Yes, "hottest day ever" absolutely was an exaggeration since the day the earth was created it was certainly hotter than it was yesterday. They should have used, "hottest day since modern humans walked the earth," or, "hottest day in recorded history," or, "hottest day that any of us have ever experienced," but those use a lot of words and room on the page.
Three articles:
Earth's hottest day? July 4 set a record, scientists say (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/weather/2023/07/05/was-july-4-earths-hottest-day-heres-what-scientists-say/70383436007/)
It comes as scientists say the planet is the hottest it has been in roughly 125,000 years. Experts believe more heat records will fall this summer.

Tuesday was the hottest day on Earth since at least 1979, with the global average temperature reaching 62.92 degrees Fahrenheit, according to data from the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction.
As a result, some scientists believe July 4 may have been one of the hottest days on Earth in around 125,000 years,
The planet saw its hottest day ever this week. The record will be broken again and again (https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/05/world/hottest-day-world-climate-el-nino-intl/index.html)
On Monday, the average global temperature reached 17.01 degrees Celsius (62.62 Fahrenheit), the highest in the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction’s data, which goes back to 1979. On Tuesday, it climbed even further, reaching 17.18 degrees Celsius. The previous record of 16.92 degrees Celsius was set in August 2016.

They are reporting science as given to them by well respected sources. I do not see any conspiracies here.
Conspiracies exist but usually involve a small amount of people who benefit from them. Like the one to take out Julius Caesar on the Ides of March. History is full of very real conspiracies.
Global warming is not one of them.

It’s been an unusually cool summer so far up north, we finally just got the first heat wave of the season. And let’s assume for a minute that the planet is warming up just a tad bit, what’s the big deal? Last time I checked people kind of like to be warm, isn’t that what the whole snowbird thing is all about? I can’t remember hearing about a whole flock of southern humanbirds doing a mass migration north because they like the cold? And warmer weather requires less burning of fossil fuels to heat homes which should be a good thing. If anything is going to warm up the planet it would be those friggin wildfires that have been burning up hundreds of thousands of acres in Canada for the last couple of months with no end in sight.

.... And let’s assume for a minute that the planet is warming up just a tad bit, what’s the big deal? ...
The big deal is that a tiny change in global temperature produces an enormous change in the ecosystems of this planet. Water behaves very differently at 31.9 degrees than it does at 32.1 degrees. Your own body is very sensitive to a fractional change in temperature. How do you feel with a body temp of 101?
You're certainly aware of the serious damage to coral reefs (https://floridakeys.noaa.gov/corals/climatethreat.html) in the last decade, from a tiny change in ocean temperature. The pH of oceans (https://www.nrdc.org/stories/ocean-acidification-what-you-need-know?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsISj2ZL5_wIVFrqGCh32HgNoEAA YASAAEgIMGfD_BwE#measured) is slightly becoming more acidic which will seriously disrupt the life of sea organisms which must have pH in a very narrow range, just like humans. Your blood pH should be 7.4 At 7.0 you are likely dead. Tiny changes.
So be snarky about snowbirds and heating costs, but the rate of change in the global temperature is very dramatic and the whole world's scientific community with the exception of a few owned by Koch Industries and the GOP are uniform in their assessment.
When Golfing Eagles, who should understand how to read a scientific report doesn't immediately understand that there was no collection of data on the subject of mean daily global temperature before 1979 and immediately jumps to the conclusion that there is a media conspiracy to indoctrinate us rather than getting exactly what the data says, that is scary.
"This week saw the hottest global temperature ever recorded, according to data from two climate tracking agencies.
The European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service on Wednesday also tweeted that Monday’s global temperature was a record in its data set."
This is a very clear, easily understood, story. The highest ever recorded, no records of this data set exist prior to 1979. Simple, a caveman should be able to grasp and not misconstrue. His sentence claiming that
In other words, for all the misguided climate change believers out there, IT WAS HOTTER ON A DAY 44 YEARS AGO THAN IT WAS YESTERDAY. So much for the inexecrable temperature rise that is steadily leading us to extinction.
GE is 100% completely wrong. It was not hotter on a day 44 years ago than it was yesterday. Those of us who accept the science are not the misguided ones. Only GE seems to not understand that the phrase since 1979 does not mean it was hotter in 1978. And he came here to pontificate and rail about media collusion when in reality, REALITY, is just GE doesn't understand what his mind is unable to accept.
When you are told the temperatures are changing in an unprecedented fashion, ignore people here and on some media who lie to you. Here is the graph of the last 2000 years. See anything unusual at the right side, the last few years. Yes, proven global warming never seen in historical times.
And the last 1/2 century, since the increase in industrialization, burning carbon fuels has the most dramatic pattern.

Wow, I just have no idea where to start debunking that crap.
I didn't say it was hotter in 1978, I said if you only have temperature data OF THE TYPE QUOTED since 1979, it was probably hotter at some point prior to that. It was DEFINITELY hotter 65 million years ago, but we don't have data from then either. Then there's that pretty graph of "2000 years". Where does that data come from??? After acknowledging the data for the argument was only collected since 1979!!!! And this is referred to as "proven global warming"????:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl: Add to that even a snapshot of 150 or even 2000 years is nothing in comparison to the climate cycles that have been repeating for the last 4.5 million years, not to mention "since 1979". Yep, what that post "proved" is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
And put that "conspiracy theorist" label to rest---I didn't post that----I posted the media is EITHER PASSIVELY or actively colluding to push certain narratives, and we all know what those narratives are and who supports them, which is why I'm not surprised by that post. Can't believe much of what is published in the news, some of what I see and hear, and nothing of what one reads on here. But, still it is entertaining. I seem to recall that at one time our continent was covered in glacial ice that has been receded. This means that the earth has been on a warming trend for a very very long time while ensuring cold cycles. I think if we all want to extend our retirement funds, let’s all invest in companies looking to cool the earth. I’d be curious what the return on the investment would be?

Science these days is all about funding research. . yes, funding research from the government. There are limited jobs for scientists in the corporate world . . .
How else does one get funding these days is through perceived crises and funding research about it. .
However,
The earth has been warming slowly since the last ice age,
The thermometer is at max 200 years old. . . amazingly
A volcanic eruption puts more bad stuff into the atmosphere in one eruption than what you can personally prevent if you devoted your entire life to preventing bad stuff
The earth can only support X million of humans before going beyond the tipping point.
The tipping point is an unknown event after which the population will dramatically decline back to a more sustainable level
If for any reason the world runs out of oil, there will be mass starvation. .
So panicking early is better than being led to the extinction event like a dinosaur. .

In about 45-70,000 years. Since the current ICE AGE began 4.5 million years ago, we have had cycles of glaciation and interglacial thaws lasting 60-100,000 years. This has repeated at least a dozen times since the last time the poles were ice free. The current thaw began about 20,000 years ago, and we are still on the warming curve. in about 20-25,000 years the temp will peak, and yes, our coastal cities will be under water, but NOT because Fred Flintstone drove a SUV or JD Rockefeller hit oil, unless anyone is naive enough to believe we have hit our current level of technology a dozen times in the last 4.5 million years and then wiped ourselves out with internal combustion engines. (but there are probably some climate change nut jobs that believe that). After that peak, we will cool again and 40,000 years or so later our northeastern coastal cities will once again be covered by 2 miles of ice. Eventually, this cycle will be broken by forces more powerful than man. The last gargantuan shift in climate occurred due to the rise of the Rocky and Himalayan mountains about 70 million years ago, so that now our planet is about 10 degrees cooler than it was then.
But then again, according to a previous post, I don't "understand" this subject :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Excellent.
Media, however it is defined, is merely passing along what passes for information from one person to another. Or, as in today, from one person to about thirty million others. But it is nothing more than that. What is interesting is how "media" functioned throughout history and there are an uncomfortable number of parallels with what is happening today.
One of my favorite examples is the Crusades. One of the primary reasons for the Crusades was not so much to spread the word of the Christian God and free Jerusalem from the infidel, but to secure trade routes for the powers-that-were in Europe at the time. Crusades of course demand soldiers, and soldiers need to be motivated. Dunno about the rest of you, but "God wills it!" seems to be much more motivating than "Let's secure those trade routes!"
It is no different today. Emotion sways far more people, unfortunately, than does reason.

Norway's melting glaciers continue to reveal incredible archaeological finds. Now, evidence of a Viking settlement high up in the Norwegian mountains has been discovered and dated by archaeologists.
Discovered in June 2021.
Testing of the charcoal confirmed there had been centrally-placed hearths inside, and also allowed radiocarbon dating. All five samples sent were dated to between the years 750 and 1150, covering the full timeline of the Viking Age.
It must’ve been much warmer back, than for them to be living there before the glaciers came. How can that be, there were no cars heating up the atmosphere then?

This is a very clear, easily understood, story. The highest ever recorded, no records of this data set exist prior to 1979. Simple, a caveman should be able to grasp and not misconstrue. His sentence claiming that
GE is 100% completely wrong.

Until..... you click on it and find out it was the hottest global temperature since 1979
In other words, for all the misguided climate change believers out there, IT WAS HOTTER ON A DAY 44 YEARS AGO THAN IT WAS YESTERDAY. So much for the inexecrable temperature rise that is steadily leading us to extinction.
Yet, the media and those in power that will benefit from spending $100 TRILLION on this folly just go merrily along pushing their false narrative. But what's worse is that the force can have a profound effect on the weak-minded.
Glad to see someone gets it! Yep, most all main stream media push their deceptive, usually misinformed narratives. We are actually entering an ice age, if you follow the “real” science.
On another note, everyone should watch and promote the film, “Sounds of Freedom”. It exposes the human trafficking, that has been covered up for many years, by the MSM and political leaders.

It use to be that politicians were given the days talking points, highlighting words to stress when responding to news questions. Today the news get the talking points directly. The damage done to once respected organizations (FBI, IRS, DOJ, Main Media Outlets, CDC, DoH) is very regrettable. Don't attacke me for this lapse in judgement, but I was giving consideration to Bernie Sanders in 2016. Men plug the dikes of their most needed beliefs with whatever mud they can find
To quote from two popular songs:
"I'm just a singer in a rock n roll band"
and
"I'd love to change the world, but I don't know what to do, so I'll leave it up to you"
I don't know much about all this but what I do know when I see it is a religion. And the new religion today is what I call the actual "scientology". And science is their god. Unfortunately, unlike Christianity, where you are to hate the sin but love the sinner, "scientologists" hate the sin and loathe the sinner. Only a religion, actually more like a religious cult, would get so spun up about those that refuse to believe.
I support your right to believe what you believe. I really do. I would hope that you would do the same.

Not intended as an insult, just an observation. Critical thinking is lacking today. People react to a headline without reading the article. People read the article through a bias that prevents them from comprehending what the article is truly trying to say. It's just what happens too often today.

Now let me help with that sentence. 44 years ago was 1978/1979. As the data says hottest since 1979 it must have been 1978 in your statement.
Don't come back here and prevaricate about what you thought you read. You probably are embarrassed you didn't read carefully. You continue to make claims about 20000 years ago and such. But look at the graphs I posted. The early years are temps calculated from data such as tree rings etc. We only have rounded yearly temperature data for the last 150 years and we only have worldwide daily data since 1979 in this data set which is the standard being used.
So yes you said it was hotter in 1978. You were wrong. You misunderstood what you read because you refuse to accept the science. There is no evidence that axis tilt, or the old favorite sunspots etc are causing the extremely rapid increase in global temperatures.
We have been thru several sunspot cycles, there is no correlation to our temperature changes. The earth did not sudden change it's axis in the last 40 years. You need more mud for your dike.

But basic premise, there is no evidence that human activity is altering the repetitive cycle of glaciation and interglacial thaws that have repeated time and time again over the last 4.5 million years. That graph is crap. The data behind it is most likely crap, and the thought of spending $100 TRILLION to combat something that we can maybe, maybe affect 1% of is crap.

Thank you for the your post. I am on board with your graphics. Numbers tell the story. Been here in Florida for over 50 years and I can tell you this IT'S HOT" Looking back at growing up in the 40's not too many folks owned a car back in the day. When you look at the numbers as the years pass, the numbers go up. Today, we have at least two cars per home
I would classify that as faulty logic, if there was any logic in it at all.
So, since you mention cars, try this one: 20,000 years ago NYC was under 2 miles of ice. By the dawn of the industrial revolution, prior to massive burning of fossil fuels, the ice had all melted and the climate was about the same as today. So, what make and model of SUV did Fred Flintstone and friends drive???? Why did the planet get so much warmer from 20,000 years ago until the beginning of industrialization??? Maybe I should put THAT on a "graph".

Who in their right mind believes in these so called climate change scientists/proponents like Al Gore or better yet, Greta Thunberg or AOC?
We have heard the same dire predictions from the left for almost 100 years, to control the country/world for their agenda.
Lets recap over that past 50 years on so called dire predictions that never came true:
in 1972, “We have ten years to stop the catastrophe,” said the UN’s environmental protection boss. That’s one of the headlines collected by Bjorn Lomberg, author of “False Alarm: How Climate Change Panic Costs Us Trillions, Hurts the Poor, and Fails to Fix the Planet.”
in 1982: Tolba, head of UN Environment
Programme in Che New York Times: If the nations of the world continue their current policies they will face by the year 2000: "an environmental catastrophe as
irreversible as any nuclear holocaust"
1989: Senior UN environmental official tells Associated Press, published around the world: U.N. Predicts Disaster if Global Warming Not Checked
Associated Press UNITED NATIONS (AP) - A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.
Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of "eco- refuges." We have to fix climate change by 1999 or climate change goes beyond human control: He said governments have a 10 year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect before *Global disaster, nations wiped off the
ladesh could be flooded, displacing a fourth face of the earth, crop failures'
* in the Nile Delta would be flooded
2007: Rajendra Pachauri, head of U.N. Chief Seeks More Leadership on
Climate Change the UN Climate Panel.
Rosenthal, Elisabeth; Andrew C. Revkin contributed reporting from New York. "What we do in the next two to three years will determine our future"
The New York Times "If there is no action before 2012, that's too late"
Only 11 Years Left to Prevent Irreversible Damage from Climate Change, Speakers

In 1974, scientists Mario Molina and F. Sherry Rowland published a paper theorising that CFCs could destroy ozone in Earth's stratosphere.

Yet, the media and those in power that will benefit from spending $100 TRILLION on this folly just go merrily along pushing their false narrative. But what's worse is that the force can have a profound effect on the weak-minded.

Back UpNort, we had a custom called the "Polar Plunge". Usually held as a fundraiser though some people did it for fun, usually aided by a few shots of slivovitz. People gathered pledges, then on the day of the "plunge", usually New Year's day for some reason, a large hole was cut in the ice of some lake, maybe 50' x 50' or so, strip down to swim trunks or whatever one usually swam in, and jump in. You got extra applause if you could swim the length of the hole and crawl out on the other side. Certain body parts would shrink down to beneath minuscule, if you get my drift.
Along the same lines, Duluth, MN, during my time there, had a club called the Polar Bear Club. Each New Year's Day, members of the club would take a swim in Lake Superior. Great fun!

We are currently in the Holocene epoch which dates back about 12,000 years when the glaciers began to recede. Not our fault. But that is when humans began to thrive. There have been world droughts lasting about 100 years, about 4,200 years ago, again, not our fault, and mini ice ages in the 1,500’s, again, not our fault. Borings show huge temperature variations throughout the history of the earth and that will not change. No one knows why the Holocene period began and no one knows when it will end. I think worrying about it does not make sense. You want to have an impact on quality of life, stop using disposable plastics.

"Carbon footprint" is a joke, promulgated by those with a climate change agenda that would most likely profit them.. First of all, CO2 is not the primary greenhouse gas on Earth, water vapor holds that distinction. Secondly, ice core records show that the current level of CO2 in our atmosphere is at a relatively low level compared to the past several million years.

HotSpot reclaims the heat that you normally throw away. It connects to the hottest point in your air conditioner system, the hot gas circuit between the compressor and condenser where temperatures up to 200 ºF exist. The HotSpot captures excess heat and puts it into the water through a special heat exchanger.
It’s attached a a/c condenser heating water in domestic water heater to 120° during a/c operation eliminating need for electric coil to operate.

Actually, I don't think anyone knows "the truth". We roughly know what the past 4 million years has been. But the future????
Yes, we are pumping large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere, but the question remains of whether that will cause a catastrophic shift in our climate or is just a drop in the bucket of climate change forces that are far more powerful than your SUV.
We simply don't have enough data for a long enough timespan to draw definitive conclusions one way or the other. Yes, both sides have presented pretty graphs derived from cherry picked data, but they MEAN NOTHING. Seven years of a cooling trend or 150 years of burning fossil fuels is irrelevant when trying to predict the future of a climate that has been cyclically alternating between periods of glaciation and interglacial thaws and driven by the power of the sun, Earth's orbit and axis changes.
I don't know the answer, but I'm pretty sure there is an agenda at work here. The "science" that the climate change advocates cite is given to us by climatologists who are almost universally owned by the government or the universities. Search other climate change threads. One poster has a son, a climatologist at a university, who challenged the global warming narrative---read what happened to him. The powers that be, through government grants, university tenure, and control of publications essentially have a gun held to the professional life of most climatologists. And I think it is obvious that the media is all too happy to push this narrative as well. There was a bad guy, about 85 years ago who said "the bigger the lie, the more people will believe it". It was one of the few things he had right.

I do not see two sides of this. There is the global warming threat which may make this world uninhabitable in six generations or so. 180 years.
UN IPCC report: 'Parts of the planet will become uninhabitable' (https://whyy.org/articles/un-ipcc-climate-change-report-uninhabitable-planet-code-red/)
Tal---you're a really smart guy---how can you possibly buy into this. "Make the World uninhabitable in six generations"????? You're joking, or playing devil's advocate, right????
The headline states "'Parts of the planet will become uninhabitable"---Parts of the world ARE uninhabitable----always have been, nothing new there. This planet has been "habitable" for over 4 BILLION years. Life here has survived massive volcanic eruptions, catastrophic geological shifts and collisions with asteroids and comets. Yet in 180 years SUV's will make the planet "unhabitable"? Like I said, nobody should actually believe that nonsense.

They have been saying that for over a hundred years. At what point do they concede that they just don't know what the future holds regarding the climate? And if man can't survive, why do we care now? 180 years from now, my dead body won't care. In a 180 years, man will likely be polluting Mars atmosphere. Besides, an asteroid is due to collide with earth in the next five years. Be careful out there because you might get beaned on the head by a golf ball or run down by a electric assisted bicycle. Or, maybe someone will create another COVID virus to kill off the old folks.

I never heard the expression of a steeple in fox clothing. Is that a new one? I find it difficult to imagine a steeple in clothes. I also can not think of what clothes a fox wears.
Dear friend, "steeple" was my auto-correct doing what it likes to do, changing what I typed to something else when I send it. I often see typos and usually manage to understand what the contributor intended. And, I also never heard that expression either. Hope you got a laugh out of it.

Some folks fat finger their keyboards and blame it on spell check, also. :D

That's OK, I'm still trying to figure out how "A steeple in fox clothing" could be spell corrected, misspelled, or "fat fingered" for the age-old adage "A wolf in sheep's clothing":1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Wrong. Look at the volume of air in a house as compared to the outdoors. This is exactly the principle upon which heat pumps work. You cannot create more heat by exchanging it---simple thermodynamic principle. the only added heat comes from the inefficiency of the unit and the power that is used
"Simple" and "thermodynamic principle" don't mesh in my little world. :-)

There was very little science presented so I don't know how you can honestly characterize it as pseudoscientfic. I would like to see the data behind some of the responses but the responses (climate is not weather, changes are occurring more rapidly, species are becoming stressed or extinct, etc) are logical and consistent with what would be expected from climate change.
A cult? Rejecting any data and any arguments as merely a result of a greed-driven conspiracy driven sounds more like a cult to me.

Ocean warming? Are you going to give credit to the many volcanoes that erupt under the oceans/seas? Surely you don't really believe that man is totally responsible for global warming?
About thirty+ years ago, I happened upon a gov. website (back when hacking was not so regulated) where they had stats from electronic monitors at the poles. They were measuring ice thickness and water temperature. When everyone else was concerned about the ice caps melting, the monitors showed that the ice was melting from the bottom, due to the oceans warming. Since then, I believe I read somewhere that the ice had increased a bit in thickness.
Personally, I doubt that man is powerful enough to warm the oceans just by living on this planet. But, I do believe the scientists that say that we are experiencing a multitude of under water volcano eruptions.

That article reads just like an instruction manual for scientologists or moonies on how to respond to all the rest of us "stupid" people who don't know that theirs is the one true religion.

That caused me to go take a look at said report. "By 2050, a billion people will face coastal flooding risk from rising seas, the report says". Such silliness caused it to lose all credibility.

It used to be that way post-Copernicus. Not any more. Carefully examine who/what is funding the studies and/or experiments. What is the desired outcome from a particular commercial and/or political power position? Who/what has an agenda to "prove" this or that for their own benefit?

Take a look at the number of "retractions" of scientific "studies/papers" these days, including in such "name" journals as _Science_ and _Nature_. Afraid our world is becoming absurder and absurder.

No Fred Flintstone did not drive an SUV.
The proliferation of A/C in virtually ever home is helping global warming since the 60’s
Standing next to my A/c condenser doing some yard work this mornin ohboy the heated air coming from it made me retreat inside today it’s 80° with a heat index of 87° it’s 08:20
Don't worry about your A/C warming the planet.
Our Air Source heating is cooling the world.
Works same as A/C but in reverse.
Cold out, warm in, to heat hot water system.
Wonderful system in summer.
Useless in winter when we need heating for radiators, as cold air outside contributes nothing to the system!
