Looking for info on "Bright Line" rail service from Orlando to Miami. We are Interested in considering it for a cruise leaving out of Miami. I am not sure if it's operational yet. Sounds like a good idea if it goes close to the port.

Thank You for any comments if you have used it.

Wish they would come closer to the villages. Not so attractive when we have to travel almost 2 hours to get the train.

The Brightline express is airport to airport, you will need to arrange shuttle from Miami airport to cruise terminal

I think you are wrong. As far as I can tell, it goes from Orlando Airport to downtown Miami - which is not very far from the cruise terminal.

You will also be able to stop in Fort Lauderdale, not far from its cruise terminal (Port Everglades).

The Miami Brightline station is indeed in downtown Miami. You can easily take an Uber to the port in Miami. Similar for the Fort Lauderdale station and port.

Double check on PARKING at the Orlando Airport if you intend to drive there. The Orlando news had stories recently about a significant shortage of parking and this was before the train is operational.

Cheaper to take shuttle to MCO than parking for a week

Cheaper to take shuttle to MCO than parking for a week

Maybe. Maybe not.

Daily Parking Garage C ($19) - 7 x $19 = $133

Workman Airport Shuttle Rate ($40 per person, one way)
Home Service to/from Shuttle ($15 (up to 3 people))

One person, two ways - 2 x $40 = $80
One person, two ways w/Home Service - 2 x ($40 + $15) = $110
Two people, two ways - 2 x $80 = $160
Two people, two ways w/Home Service - 2 x ($80 + $15) = $190

2 x ($80 + $30) = $220

Back in March we used ‘Cruise Express’ coach service from Lady Lake (Rt 441) direct to Miami cruise terminal. $100 return per person. Great service.

Your math is correct but
I think the $15 home service is per home - not per person.

Home Service to/from Shuttle is an additional $15 – flat rate (up to 3 people, within The Villages® Community only)

Orlando Airport Parking from $3.95. Compare MCO parking lots, reserve and save big. (https://www.cheapairportparking.org/mco).

Plenty of offsite parking , often at a discount

Please let me know what you find out as I am looking for the same thing. The person commenting on the bus was correct, however, it doesn't begin until mid October and I need it end of September. I think it's a great deal... 100 dollars round trip from Lowes parking lot in Lady Lake. You can call them for reservations. Yankee Trails.

We are looking to do the same using the Brightline in October. Thanks to the person who posted the link for the off site parking, what a huge difference in price!

If you Brightline, don't forget that you have luggage for your cruise. How does your luggage get from your home to the ship?

If you Brightline, don't forget that you have luggage for your cruise. How does your luggage get from your home to the ship?

From the Brightline FAQs:

Can I check baggage?
Yes, we’re happy to help with baggage. Checked bags can be added to your SMART or PREMIUM fare for a fee of $10 per item. If you're traveling with multiple items, please add bags to your reservation in advance. When booking your reservation online or in our app, you’ll have the option to do so.

Baggage Requirements:
Maximum Weight: 50 lbs. (22 kg)
Maximum Dimensions: 33" x 22" x 15

In-station and onboard attendants will be available to assist in getting your baggage on and off the train and to your destination. Baggage can be checked in at the Guest Services desk. Please plan to arrive early to allow extra time to check baggage prior to departure.

Where do I pick up my checked items?
Checked baggage will be available for pick up beside Guest Services on carts found on the ground level of our stations.

Park off-site or in long-term and it’s MUCH less than $19/day. The lot we use is about $85-90/week COVERED. And let’s not forget that the shuttle can more than double your travel time by the time they “home stop” for others.

The Brightline express is airport to airport, you will need to arrange shuttle from Miami airport to cruise terminal

In Miami it ends at Central Station, downtown, less than a 10 min cab ride from the ports. The airport is farther away. Supposedly they have a seamless system to get you to the port. Probably a similar arrangement to Ft Lauderdale ports. Check this out: Miami Train Station: High-Speed Rail | Brightline (https://www.gobrightline.com/train-stations/fl/miami)

I am looking forward to it opening as well. You have to drive to Orlando to catch the train and then catch an Uber or something from the train stop to the cruise port but as I understand it, the stops are all within 5-10 miles of the ports so the cost should be minimal. We love to cruise so I suspect we will use this train quite a bit.

Taking a cruise in Jan so just checked prices. $79 per person each way for basic. Comes to over $300 per couple. Add in Orlando parking and Uber, and gets to over $400 total. Says the trip is 2.5 hours, so total would get to around 5 hours with all the transfers. Think I’ll just go with a more direct shuttle or drive myself and park at port.
