I want to trying to get automatic shuffling tables for Mahjong added to several Rec Centers. Who should I talk with to see if we can get them purchased?
who do I contact?
I want to have a fund raiser to help buy them, but would like to see if there is some type of fund to help.

I don't think they want us to use automatic card shufflers because they will wear down the edges of the cards and have to replace the cards more often.

She is asking for Mah Jong which is played with tiles not cards.

I don't think getting automatic table tile shufflers would fly. Rooms are constantly having tables broken down into different configurations for other activities. The cost would be excessive per table also. I did see $1000 table at Walmart.com

Step 1: Wait until John Rohan is gone.
Step 2: Don't waste your time.
I approached him once and never in my life has someone treated me like a POS for daring to talk to him.
Hello Mr Rohan, would you have a moment for a question please?
What do you want?
Would it be possible for the pools to ... (cuts me off mid sentence)
No. I'm not changing anything at the pools. (then he walks away)

Each rec center has a supervisor. That would be the place to start. Either talk to them in person, or email with a cc to Rohan.

Can you imagine how many times he is approached by someone who has a request for a change or a great idea. I could believe that his answers have become progressively shorter over time.

Rohan's attitude is that he is in charge and he does not negotiate. Don't waste your time.
I would suggest buying the Table for your home and have Mah Jong at your house.

This post raised my curiosity. An automatic Mahjong shuffling table? What would such a thing look like? A little search on the web, and I found a video showing how it works. Simply amazing; shove all the tiles into the hole in the center, it shuffles 'em around and lines 'em up for the four players, ready for another game. Wow.
And it's only $1200 each. For one table, for four players.
Sorry, no. Not a good use of CDD resources.
I also found a couple of plastic sheets for $9.99 that you can slide under the tiles to pick them up and shuffle them.

There are "tile shuffler" boards/cards available on Amazon....given the need to frequently reset rooms, I don't see anyone investing in automated equipment.
BTW, at a craft fair, I did see some Mah jongg mats made of window screen...great idea!

Shuffling the tiles for a new game is part of process of playing Maj Jongg. These tables are very expensive, can't be used for other activities, and would be a gross waste of the rec center's resources.

Agreed. Emailed him once and received a rude and condescending response.

You should have seen the shenanigans his nephew got away with while working for TV at Buffalo Glen softball fields. Despite most of his work day spent sleeping or smoking weed, he kept his job. Despite getting out of his cart in full view of over 50 women, dropping his pants and pulling out his thing to wiz on the grass between the fields (instead of driving the cart 75 yards to the bathroom), he kept his job. He didn't get fired when he took (stole) the villages owned work cart on a joy ride one night and wrecked it. He only got fired for refusing a to do a drug test after this event. Nepotism at it's finest. John Rohan certainly has job security no matter what he does. If they fired him, they'd have to rename a rec center.
