It is easy to have a misspelling in the thread title, but how to correct it?
(One currently is "purse conditions" which is presumably meant to be "course conditions".)
I found what seemed to be a way to edit it, but it didn't correct the original entry.
Thank you

Click on the edit/delete option in your original post, then click on "go advanced". From there, you should be able to edit the thread title.

I'm sure I tried that previously and it didn't change the original title, but it did just now so I guess I was caught in a spacetime loop previously.

Is it possible that you didn't click on "save" after you edited the title?

Is it possible that you didn't click on "save" after you edited the title?
It's messing around again
I changed the title to "Edit Thread Title 2" successfully and have just tried to change it back to "Edit Thread Title", hitting "save". It has changed it in the initial post, but not in the listing of threads.
Very strange.

It looks like you may have changed the post title, but did not change the thread title. They are two different things. Most posters do not add a title to their posts, but it is an option.

I think that must be it. Thank you for your help.

If you proofread before posting corrections won’t be an issue.

Thank youThis has worked for me -- On post #1, click on the triangle next to the post number. Ask the admin to make the change. Done.

You can make the change yourself by clicking on "go advanced".

Your post failed to answer the OPs original post's question. So apparently you did not comprehend the question

It looks like you may have changed the post title, but did not change the thread title. They are two different things. Most posters do not add a title to their posts, but it is an option.
Not of vital importance, but I would like to resolve this in case I need it in future.
I click on Edit/Delete and Go Advanced but can't see what to do then.
If I click on top right (Edit thread title 2) it takes me out of edit and back to the original post.
The line "Title" is currently blank and if I type what I want in there it appears, as you rightly pointed out, in the post but does not change the title itself.
Apart from that, I can only see the main text, and editing that won't help.
I'm wondering if, having edited it once, the option does not appear again?
Basically, where on the screen do I go :-)
Thank you

Not sure I understand. I went to a few threads that I started and went to my original post. I clicked on "edit/delete" and then "go advanced". It showed me a screen that had the thread title and my original post. I could change the thread title and then click on "save changes" and it will change the thread title. Note, that I am using the new version of TOTV, but both versions seem to work the same way for changing the thread title.
Note that the new version has a "reply" and a "quick reply" button on posts, whereas the old version only has a "quick reply" button. If you use the "reply" button in the new version, you have the option to add a title to your reply post. This does not change the thread title. Only the poster who started the thread can change the thread title by using the "edit/delete" and "go advanced" buttons.
Is it possible that you deleted the entire thread title and need to type in a new one?

Arctic Fox,
I understand what you are going through because I, too, have been taunted by a typo in a thread title, more than once. Sometimes it is because I bump the iPad and send too soon. Sometimes the computer thinks it knows best and it gets away from me. Sometimes, I (gasp) don’t proofread soon enough. It happens.
Finally, like you did, I asked, and retiredguy123 got me through it. I think it took him at least two tries with me though. He seems to be a patient retired guy. :) You’ll get there.
But (sigh) I must tell you that I was soooo looking forward to a discussion of “Purse Conditions” because I think I need some sort of purse therapy. I can never get the right purse. Too big. Too little. On and on it goes. A closet full of losers. Sometimes I give them away because I must banish them from my sight.
Nora Ephron has long been one of my favorite writers. One of her last books was I Feel Bad About My Neck. The book has a chapter called “I Hate My Purse.” That is when I learned I am not alone.
Last night we were watching Season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer and I got a glance at a purse his first wife was carrying when they were sitting on a bench eating lunch. It was a black purse. Not too big. Not too little. Looked perfect for me. I missed half the rest of the episode because I was scouring the internet trying to find it on one of those sites that tell you what people on television are wearing. But I had no luck. Probably cost a blue fortune anyway.
Oh well, I know nothing about course conditions. But I know a lot about purse conditions.
So. . .back to topic — and, for me, back to work I do not want to do.

Maybe when Heloise goes on vacation you can take over her newspaper column.

That worked for me when I first changed the thread title. However, having logged off then gone back in to try changing it again the screen didn't show the thread title (other than top right, and clicking that takes me out of editing).
Would you mind trying to change again one of those you experimented with above, to see if the thread title appears? Thank you.

There's certainly a lot of scope for purse-related discussion on this site, and we could take bets to see how long it would be before it went off-subject.

I see what you mean. I suspect that there may be a time limit or another constraint after which you can no longer change the thread title. But, I have emailed the TOTV admin, and I will let you know what they say. Hopefully, we will get to the bottom of this.

Update: The answer I got from TOTV said that they are still working on my question, but they think that only the mods can change a thread title. Personally, I don't think that is exactly correct. I believe that, if you create a thread, you have a window of time during which you can edit the thread title, but after that time period, you can no longer change it.

I changed this one (by adding the "2") using your guidance, but was then unable to change it back, so it's either time-based or one-change only.

So, I finally got an answer from the TOTV software technician. Their answer was that you only have 15 minutes to change the title of a thread. After that, it cannot be changed. I hope this helps.
