View Full Version : Can't read the thread at all if OP is on Ignore List

As a test, I put someone on Ignore. I was then unable to open a thread they started.
On other forums that I'm on, all other posts would be visible but the ignored account's post would be shown as it would be in any other thread
Is this done on purpose? If so, why?
Would the admins/mods consider changing it to make the rest of the discussion visible?

Another difference from another site I am on, if I place someone on “ignore” they are now blocked from even seeing any threads that I start (likewise I am blocked from viewing any threads that they start). If a blocked person comments on a thread in which they are not the author, the post shows as “blocked user” with no comments. If I post on a thread in which I am not the original author, the person I blocked is not even aware I made the post.
I guess it’s just up to the site’s admin which rule sets they want to write into the blocking option.

One of the biggest issues in my opinion, is if a "Blocked Poster" is the 1st post on a subsequent page (of an on-going thread), you can't get past the previous page.
In other words, is a "Blocked Poster" is the FIRST post on a page, you can't get to that thread ... or if you can, I haven't figure out a way to do it.

I have several blocked posters, and when someone posts a reply to one of their posts, I see the new post and can read the new post. Also, if (big IF) the reply poster copied the original post in their reply, I see that also. As soon as I see this I hit the ESC button and go to the next thread.

You can unblock and them put them back on the Ignore List. Easy to do if you are curious what someone is posting.
I used to have about 40 people on the Ignore List but most of those no longer post on Talk of the Villages but do show up other places on the internet .

I don't believe I've ever blocked anyone. Just not something I've ever felt the need to do. I don't take them (or myself) that seriously.
People imbue these message boards with importance far beyond what they deserve. All these "people" are, are words on a screen.

Glad to know this is the case now. I found it weird in the past to see my IGNOREd person's threads. If I don't want to see their responses, I certainly don't want to see the threads they start.

Agree.
If someone is THAT up tight & can't even see a poster's name (& then skip over a post), someone has a sad, sad life. Close the curtains, lock all doors & windows, turn on Disney & Hallmark.

I have no idea how to "ignore" a post or a poster. How does one do that?
