What cleanser will do the job? Our stucco sided house is light brown and has obvious stains from irrigation sprinklers over spraying. I've got the sprinkler heads adjusted correctly. Now, what should I use to remove the stains.

Thanks for product suggestions.

Snowcap from Ace Hardware worked great on my vinyl siding. Just spray it on and no scrubbing. No riinsing. The stains just disappear.

I agree with snocap, however, the instructions do state to wash it off after 10 minutes as I recall. Works great.

I would contact a house wash company and have them take care of the stain. Most companies will clean the entire exterior of a house for more or less $100.00.

If it is due to iron, I'd mix up some OxyClean (powder) with water (about 1 scoop/gallon) and using a pump up sprayer, spray it on the area then rinse off in 4 - 5 minutes. If it is iron you'll see it disappear before you can wash the area with clean water. You can find it in the laundry detergent aisle. You can use the rest of the OxyClean in your washing machine to give your detergent a boost.

As with all chemicals, wear gloves and especially if spraying use eye protection.

Snocap is your best bet, won't harm the paint.

Maybe homeowners here will start checking irrigation system monthly and avoid these problems and wasting water

Most of TV is using non-potable water for irrigation anyway. There is only so most adjustment one can do when the grass goes up to the wall.

Do you think that product would work on flowerbed rocks too?

Seriously...

Irrigation water in almost all the newer areas is recycled from the ponds. The water keeps things green and alive, and the excess seeps into the ground aquifer and then eventually back into the ponds.

The ultimate in recycling.

This is from their website.

Easy to Apply!
No Scrubbing, No Rinsing
4 scoops to a gallon of water, and apply with a pump-up sprayer.

Had the same problem. Reddish stains near the base of the walls. I used Iron Out. It worked perfectly. As noted above, you may need to adjust sprinklers to avoid wall spray, but that's not always possible and wind can carry the spray. Like anything else we need to clean, it gets added to the maintenance list. It is satisfying to see the stains disappear.

I used Goof Off Brand "Rust Aid" available at Home depot. It worked perfectly. You can watch the stains disappear instantly once applied. Best part, no scrubbing.
To apply, I bought a cheap paint roller and pan. Rolled on the water-like liquid on my stucco walls.
Stains gone in minutes.

Where do homes in the older areas get their irrigation water?

From the same potable water line that supplies their house water.

Does anyone know of a company that will apply SNOWCAP to remove stains near the base of my home? I was just waiting to get a little bit more money together to have the house painted, but maybe this would work. It would be great if I don't have to paint the house. My home is grey with white stains at the bottom, but looks fine otherwise. Thank you

From the same potable water line that supplies their house water.its not the irrigation water it’s from the iron in the fertilizer that is sprayed on your grass.

I am surprised that Oxyclean worked to remove iron stains. Ferric oxide is incredibly insoluble. Using oxalic acid or Iron out as suggested elsewhere would reduce the ferric ion to ferrous making it much more soluble. However, if the stain is organic in nature, then Oxyclean would do a great job.

We do not have a choice. Far as the irrigation water, I asked the cooperative extension folks about using it on stuff you will eat. The reply was we will get back to you and they never did.
I would imagine the recycled water varies depending on when. Fertilizer, insecticide, dog waste even pool chemicals are all in it.

Where do homes in the older areas get their irrigation water?

“Older areas” north of 466 I understand use potable water to irrigate. South of 466 do not. We live between 466 and 44 and our irrigation water is reclaimed (non-potable) water.

THANKS to all who suggested products (the original request).

Snowcap worked very well. Thanks!

As for water:
- We don't need scolding about wasting water. Anyone who thinks water waste is a problem, either doesn't understand how well this magnificent planet takes care of itself, or is from the government trying to tell you how to run your life.

- Irrigation water south of 44 is from the ponds, and contains anything that runs off of lawns and paths ... and smells like it too. And yes, it includes minerals which cause the stains. No, I wouldn't use it for watering vegetables I intend to eat.
