We have an outside attic vent- an octagonal, louvered thing at the peak of our garage. We noticed what looks like bat crap stuck to the siding, and on the ground under the vent.
I think a screen attached behind the vent may help keep them out. Is there a handy man who would be willing to work for just 1 hour? Also- short of an exterminator is there a way to get the bats to leave?
Thanks!

exterminator won't help, bats are protected here...

They will be gone in couple months, I would just wash if off. Probably just roosting there during day.
Another solution put up bat house help environment. Bats helps keep insect populations down especially skeeters.

Once it cools off (or at night) I believe you are correct that some hardware cloth (1/4 square metal screening) stapled on the inside of the existing vent would be effective. I also like the idea of a bat house, they love mosquitoes.

Several of my neighbors have had bats roosting in their attic (Hampton Villas). You best get up and inspect your attic! It is quite interesting watching them. In the evening, sit outside beginning 30- 45 minutes before sunset and watch your roofline where you believe they can gain access. You will see dozens of them flying away as sunset approaches. If you have them you'll need to get a bat trapper to inspect your roof. He will close off all entry points but one. Then he will put a one way (out) gizmo on the final entry point so they can leave at sunset but not re-enter..... Good luck!
