Mini Split Repair Recommendation requested. Just checking to see if there is anyone besides Kalos who can repair our mini split. We are not ruling Kalos out to do the repair because just over two years ago they did our installation for our mini split in our patio villa. The copper tubing has sprung a leak and Kalos wants $700 to repair it which covers administration costs (??), going up through the patio villa attic to replace the copper pipe; seems high but maybe it's the going rate. We need to do our due diligence and check around. Any assistance appreciated.

I would get a price from Munn's. But, $700 may not be too high because of the high cost of the refrigerant.

Interesting, had not thought of that. What was leaking down the wall was a water drip. We had the repair person here last night and the copper tube is about 18" from the access point in the ceiling and we were able to see the break or leak. We will check and see if they can splice the tube and repair rather than replace the say 100' of copper that is intact. The fellow last night was not able to do the quote as that isn't his job but he was knowlegable and very nice. We got the quote today from the quote department. Appreciate your feedback.

If it is only a condensate water leak, $700 sounds high, unless you need a new condensate pump. I thought you had a refrigerant leak.

Depending on the type of copper tubing, there may be suitable compression fittings for that size pipe. Then cut the pipe at the leak, install the compression fitting, and cross your fingers. I would look into a PEX tubing replacement.

For sure, fingers crossed the compression fitting could work. Since my post, we realized we've only had the unit 26 months so are hoping the warranty comes into play.

Thank you for your reply. We need a spring leak in the copper water line patched. All else is intact. Hoping it can be spliced or patched.

Refrigerant is very expensive. In your quote the company is making nothing.

Most of the time these lines get a little blockage. Most people will take a wet vac and suck one side of the pipe and clear the block. $700 is ridiculous it’s really simple to replace but I’ve had a set of pipes for 10 years and no issues. I’m going to reuse them for a new higher seer version.

Have you spoken with the office of Kalos...about a warranty? They have always been a reputable company.
What would cause this...did they say? Please follow up and let us know ... many of us have mini-splits.
All the best...thankfully you were there to catch this issue.

It’s not expensive at all?? The mini split barely uses 2 pounds of 410 and that means it’s empty??? 2 pounds is only $124 dollars on the retail market with a self install hose 140

Happy to report that late yesterday we did resolve the issue with Kalos. While the mini split is under warranty, Kalos states the copper tubing going through the attic is not. From what we understand, the copper tube had a leak, caused by what not sure or perhaps it was defective when installed in 2021, we will never know. We noticed the issue because water was dripping down the wall under the mini split unit. Water did pool on the floor behind and beyond a piece of furniture in that location and that's how we saw it. There was no gushing water, to be clear. To that end, there were no refrigerant leaks. This particular copper tubing carries water. From what I understand about that is it's more of a drip that carries the condensation from the unit through the attic, then outside the house through a copper tube that we can clearly see located by the compressor (I think they call it?). While we still have to pay, Kalos did adjust the fees.

A simple wet vac would have solved your problem happens a lot over time..

Go to the mini-split manufacturers' website and see who their recommended installers are. They you know they will work with the warranty

We just found Apex Heating & Air 352 640 5933. our mini was leaking, he came out and took the whole system apart, cleaned, and put it back. Very reasonable!
We also determined we can not try the glassed Lanai to cooler than 82 during this terrible heat

But the leak in the pipe still needs to be fixed.

If Kalos’ only solution is to replace 100 ft of tubing for a simple leak, they are either dishonest or are very unknowledgeable about their core business. Either way I would not do business with them unless they are willing to do a warranty repair of their work.

I use Holiday Heat & Air 352.728.4554
They installed mine and are very accommodating and I think fairly priced.
