Frog in the House

Sunday morning, my blushing bride flips on the light switch and to our surprise we found a large frog in our bedroom. She assured me it wasn't her prince charming... I captured the frog and took him out to the yard. My guess is that he found is way into the house when a door was left open, but one of the people I golfed with said something about them coming up through the plumbing. Is that right???

Lately anoles are coming to visit way to often when we open a door. Sad that it is a death sentence for them but hard to catch and take outside.

The only time our Deans inside person said to worry is if toilets go completely dry, then yes you will get vermin, but she stated sink drains have trap, so they can’t come through, but they will go down drain to drink. We had the same person for 14 years

Make sure you close your toilet lid. We have had them show up twice in the toilet bowl and surprise us when we lifted the toilet lid!!

I shoo anoles out with a gentle leaf blower. The little guys can be even blown out from under couches. Depends on the size of the frog I can increase the power. The blower was bought for getting snakes out, works on leaves too.

It is "Likely" that a frog can come through the plumbing. We had one in our toilet once.

A neighbor suggested dropping a towel on them but tried that and they laughed and ran away finally to starve. Sad.

Dunno about frogs coming in through (actually along) the plumbing but snakes surely can.One morning last week I spied one slithering along the hallway; when he saw me he turned and hightailed it under the door to the guest bathroom. Not very big...maybe 12"...but a feisty little bugger. Finally corraled him and put him in a box: turned out (after a couple of calls and texted picture) that he was a juvenile black racer. Apparently they can crawl along sink plumbing and will get in if it isn't sealed.

We have a shop vac that works great on anoles,
empty outside and he's free again.

Most of those critter's cling on the inside door jam,
open door and in they hop.

It is "Likely" that a frog can come through the plumbing. We had one in our toilet once.
I'm not saying that a frog cannot come in through the toilet, but the frog would have needed to enter the plumbing system from the manhole in the street, or from a vent pipe on the roof. Very unlikely. Some people assume that an animal or insect came in through the toilet because they see them in the toilet. But, all animals need water, and they will seek out the toilet to get water even if they came in from somewhere else.

It is surmised that they come in through the roof venting. It is also easy to surmise that a frog in the toilet with the lid down did not get there the conventional way.

I agree, but I think a frog in the toilet with the lid down doesn't necessarily mean that the frog didn't squeeze in under the lid. My toilets have a one-half inch gap for anything to enter.

Yeah, certainly possible for a single frog to find that crack under the lid. Some of the pics from my google search showed multiple frogs in a single toilet. Kinda doubt the whole posse found there way in that way.🤫

We had a teeny one once who could jump many feet. It was about the size of a quarter I think. My S.O. caught it and took it outside BUT had to be quick as this thing could move! NOW in our sun-room, which is an actual room made from a lanai has had a tiny anole in it. I think it came through a tiny crack that is with our slider door to the patio. I don't know if he/she moves back and forth from outside to inside or what but if he's been here for awhile don't know what's keeping him alive. That large frog would have undone me.

Just say lizard, most of us do! Truly, we'll all know what you mean.
Also, know that they are excellent to have around the 'outside' of your home. They do an incredible job at eating bugs and insects!
Just like black racer snakes, don't kill them when they are in your yard.

We had a tree frog hitch a ride with us up north. Found him climbing my closet door in the bedroom. Caught it and put it outside. If it survived I suspect it was very lonely since we don’t have this type in our northern state. We packed the car in garage with door shut so it must have been in the garage as we loaded up. Frogs are quick and sneaky. My guess is yours came in through an open door.

You may want to check that the clean out access to the outside waste line for your house is intact. I did not realize that our house had a double clean out until not long after we had bought our home in The Villages. I was doing yard work & heard water running about 15-20 feet from main cleanout access (white PVC screw top next to house) while my husband was showering. Grass had grown over the spot where the flat cover for the second access had apparently been hit by a lawn mower at some point. There were plastic fragments from the broken cover on closer inspection. Moving the grass, I saw running water at bottom of 4-6" wide round open pipe. No odor or wet ground around opening. We replaced the cap (it sits more or less flush with the ground), & no more of the bugs we had been finding in bathrooms. We were lucky, as larger creatures could have come into house by same route. This situation may not be uncommon, as I reported same type cover damage recently near tee box at one of exec golf courses, with big hole someone could step in if not careful.

That definitely can and does happen. After the second time a frog in the toilet totally freaked out SWMBO, I fixed the issue with a piece of stainless steel screen and a hose clamp on the top of the vent stack on the roof. Then, for additional peace of mind, I did the same to every other vent stack. Problem solved.

Frogs can get into the house through the vent. While replacing my neighbor's vent, I found a tree frog inside it. I have also found two young squirrels in my toilet that came in through the plumbing vent on the roof.

When The Roof Guys did my roof, they put a new covers on the vents with a screen.

All my vents are covered with screening. To my surprise when I lifted the toilet seat, there was a huge frog on the side of the bowl. I slammed the lid and flushed the toilet. I then lifted the lid and he was still there. I slammed the lid again and grabbed the plunger. When I lifted the lid again he was gone. He apparently swam down the toilet drain. I think that’s how he got in too.

I would guess a little clorex toilet bowl cleaner in the water would keep them out. I had a little green one that attached itself to the hood of my car. Stayed on while I was driving around. I had to gently pry it off.

Sounds like a green tree frog. If so, they can slip through the smallest cracks, or if a window/door isn't closed tightly perhaps. We've had them before...no harm no foul...just scares the wife a bit.

I once found a lizard in the toilet and once found a frog peeking up from the bathroom drain when I turned on the water. Ever since then I always flush the toilet before using it. If a lizard can come up a snake can too.

My husband told me a story that happened before we met. He was with a friend who was looking at a home to buy or maybe it was a rental. The realtor was showing the kitchen and there was a BIG snake lying across the curtain rod above a slider door. I don't know what kind of snake it was but it took up a good portion of the curtain rod.

I love all types of animals. We have the lizards coming inside every month or so. Our ceiling is eighteen feet high. Up to now, I have gone crazy to rescue every one that we notice inside. It is getting a bit challenging though. Moving out the regular fridge, wine fridge, dishwasher, climbing up a ladder. I'm concerned I may have a med issue catching and releasing these things. Last one I said, "he has to live with his poor choices". One AM I'm out searching for him.
Everytime I use the outside grill I have to inspect it. We have a frog that likes to live by the side burner. He gets inside/under the burner flap, after crawling under the grill cover.

Check outside there are large white caps that the mowers can cut the top off. We had a frog and found the broken cap.
