OK, what will be the closest station, via golf cart, if you live in Hadley?

There are 2 Shell stations along CR466, in the area of Southern Trace. They've been around long enough that I think they'll stay in business!

Earlier this week, gas 16 cents more there than elsewhere. No wonder it closed down again...got to meet prevailing prices.

Went by there around 2pm today and there were some cars there but it appeared that they had some kind of construction going on just south of the pumps as that area was blocked off.

I'm beginning to wonder if I made the right choice in buying a gas cart.

Towing the electric cart that ran out of juice -- PRICELESS (and happens all too frequently). Tom, going to 466 not that big of a deal. Just buy a 5- or 10-gallon gas can, fill it up when you gas up your car and leave it in your garage -- that's what most gas cart owners do.
However, sure wish I'd seen this thread before I putt-putted my way over to that stupid station. Then I had to putt-putt (and pray) to 466 to get gas. I foolishly let it get too low. Fortunately, made it, but sure wasn't thrilled when I saw the prices -- $2.98 for regular; $3.26 for premium. That was a seriously fast hike!

These two stations have always charged a few cents more per gallon than the 2 Villages area Shell stations on HWY 441/27.
Wonder what will happen when the Murphy Express Station opens across from WalMart on CR 466. Hopefully the competition from this new Walmart affiliated station will result in these Shell stations setting their prices a little lower.

If this station at Colony is being closed permanently, I hope somebody buys it and re-opens it.
My husband is working and drives the car to Leesburg. It doesn't make sense to drive north (from Duval) to 466 to buy gas there, when he's going to Leesburg to work.
This is a big step backward.
And no, we're not sorry we bought a gas cart. It's reliable.

Runing out of juice is no different than running out of gas. It only happens if you do not pay attention to your gauge. I have a gauge on my electric cart and know how many bars it takes on it to get from 441 to 466a and places inbetween. I pay $25 a year for 24/7 cart service so worst that happens is I make a phone call and someone comes out and tows me home but i do not see how that will happen unless I am careless. I never let my cart charge go below a certain level and it is easy enough to plug it in when not in use and have a full charge or close to it each time I need the cart. Having said this I see the merit in a gas cart for those that use it for golf and their primary means of transportation.
What makes me laugh the most is that people seem to forget they have cars. I had one person tell me that he did not want an electric cart because he would not be able to charge it in case there was an emergency situtation such as a hurricane and his electricity was out. I asked him about his car and he just looked funny and said he had not considered that.

Also, nice and quiet, and no exhaust smells inside the now closed and buttoned up cart. I never have any problem getting anywhere and home again. I have 2 electrics and 1 is always fully charged.

Speaking of Gas......pause. I'm cheapo and always use Regular gas. Does anyone find it beneficial in any way to use Premium in their cart?

According to every golf cart mechanic I've talked to, they all recommend the Premium. It is a small engine and the Premium is just better for it. They also recommend you use the synthetic oil. Fortunately, it's a small tank, so it doesn't take that much to fill it. Also, when giving the cart oil, be very careful to not overfill. I've found that my cart only takes 1/2 a bottle of oil at a time.

On a related note, I see where the Dollar Store in Colony Plaza has recently closed. Too bad, a good dollar store should have done well. They just never seemed to have much inventory. Dollar Tree by Kohls and North 441 Walmart is the best around.
Back to gas, I usually put Shell in my car but rarely patronized that station since they were always substantially higher than others.

:clap2: Seems to me the prices at that station are outrageously high! Maybe because he has a captured audience. I still refuse to pay on average 10-15 cents higher per gallon for gas. Rip Off and the citizens that use that facility allow them to get away with it......:boom:

Supposedly, Shell sets the price at that station -- not the owner. I was told they were in a different district than the ones on 466 and 441. Don't know if that is true or not, but it is a stupid policy if it is. They'd thrive if they were competitive and not just in gas, but in everything. I've found things to be consistently higher there than other TV gas stations.

across from Walmart. Maybe they will bring lower prices to TV and influence the others who take advantage of a some what captive market. I avoid buying gas in TV as much as possible they are always 6-10 cents higher than non villages locations....like Sam's club this past week almost a dime less than 466 stations.

You're husband would do better buying his gas in Leesburg than TV. A couple weeks ago the regular at Colony was $3.06. At 466 it was $2.89. I bought gas for my cart there (466 Shell) although it only took 3 gals and I saved only 51 cents, but it was just my way of protesting and besides I enjoy riding around in the cart anyways.

Went by the Shell station on 466A around 5pm this evening and the sign is off the door, lights on and customers getting gas. Still open when we came back by after 8pm, so maybe whatever issues they had may have been cleared up???

Spoke to the new owner today: Recently purchased the operation, there was a lien against the previous owner that caused unforeseen problems that now have been resolved. I also asked about the prices being higher than the competition and his answer was that also will be changing, prices will be in line with other local stations. Sounds like good news to me!!!

Maybe if more of us used the station it would help. I know we only use a few gallons of gas every other week in our GC but it all adds up. I try and use that station as much as possible. Even for the car the price difference isn't that much. I think the convenience is worth a little more. Just my opinion.

Agree, I don't mind paying a couple of cents more for gas. I live in Bonita and the station is very convenient for auto, motorcycle and golf cart gasoline.
Convenience is the key.

I'm beginning to wonder if I made the right choice in buying a gas cart.
Probably a wash...gas cart owners have to pay for their energy costs weekly to refill the tank. Electric cart owners pay for the electricity, then have to replace the batteries approx. every three years. It is a matter of personal preference. We have one electric, one gas cart and both of us prefer the gas cart because we don't ever suffer from the dreaded "battery anxiety syndrome".

A neighbor of one of our friends took the time to figure out the cost of operating both of their golf carts. Back when gas was $2.50 per gallon he figured it cost him $0.05 per mile for the gas cart and $0.02 per mile for the electricity for the electric cart. But as you mentioned the cost of new batteries maybe five years down the road will be around $600 or so and that pretty much balances things out.

When I read here that the station had closed I followed th advise of several posters and went out and bought a 5 gal gas can. I then filled it up and it is sitting in my garage. Then I noticed I will probably have to by a funnel to get the gas into the gas cart. :grumpy: This is starting to be a big pain, plus I don't like portable containers of gasoline sitting in my garage. Once I eventually get the gas into the cart I think I will end the use of the 5 gal can. Hopefully the 466a Shell will stay open...if not I will drive to Southern Trace. One point for electric carts :D

We were over by there today to go to Publix - the gas price was $309.9 for regular. About 10 cents too high at present. But as others have said, the convenience for those close by is worth something! :)

Even if it amounts to an xtra buck to fill the cart as previously stated, it is worth it for the convenience.

We have 2 electric carts and have and endless supply of energy right in our own garage. carts are plugged in after every use and we have never been stranded, actually, not even close. don't have to raise our voices in conversation while driving and don't smell like gas when we get home....gn
