A couple of weeks ago, I saw a car heading north on Morse Blvd; at least I think that was direction the car was going. When I saw it, the car was upside down just like the car in the photo in the OP. This was located several yards north of 466 just outside of an entrance to the first village on the west side. I'm still scratching my head as to how anyone could gain enough speed to roll their car.

Tire hit the center of the road curb on driver's side? Seems like it would be further away from that center curb though towards the gate and not away from it. More to the left when viewing the picture unless there is a lot of weight on the passenger side and not so much on the driver's.

That certainly took some speed in order to flip. Even hitting the curb at high speed-doubtful to flip a large car as that.

As for the driver, can only assume a medical condition was the cause, hope they were belted. I mean seat, not booze.

I looked at Google maps, it looks like the car was going south on Morse, took the exit to Pinellas place way too fast, and tried to make a U turn before the gates, and car flipped when the passenger side tires hit the curb, I AM JUST GUESSING.

If that is the Sanibel gate I went past there this morning and saw where a street light had been run over. It would be just out of the picture to the right. The lamp pole was broken off but the lower three feet of the pole was bent but still upright. I assume the driver hit that light pole and the car rode up on the lower section and turned over because it did not break off. I would assume the driver was going at a fairly high rate of speed.

I agree. Possibly the driver was northbound on Morse not slowed down in left lane into the roundabout. Had a medical episode and veering left off the curb losing control, flipping into the present spot. That's my guess.

Great theory. But I would think the little piece of fence and the box with the red button would have been damaged if they ran up on it.

That makes it look like some high rate of speed was involved. High rate for the Villages' roads. I do see cars ripping by doing 50 or so once in a while on these 25 mile an hour roads. Maybe the driver hit the gas rather than the brake.

However, you may be on to something. What if the driver was inattentive and took the exit too quick, (or possibly was forced to turn by some idiot to his left trying to take the first exit, or he was wrong by entering the RB when a car was coming around in the inner lane and similarly forced to exit, possibly when he intended to go straight through). Then, upon seeing the gate and gatehouse, as well as the U-turn break in the island, tried to swing right for radius and then turn left into that break, but hit the passenger side tires against the right hand curb. Depending on speed, that might flip the car. Of course, given the distance to the gate, unless he was driving a junker with bad brakes, there should be enough time to stop, so my vote is for either drunk or texting.

When I was a kid I was running my barracuda hard glanced a curb on a curve lost the tire bead and it flipped on it's side. Curb probably involved, brakes & acceleration with bad timing

PS I have been warned running a cart fast down a incline then hard brake will get squirrelly and flip it. Played with a guy that broke a arm as a passenger from that.

He/She overcorrected and pulled hard to the left thus causing the rear of the vehicle to swing around where the inertia of the vehicle was now sliding sideways. The right side of the vehicle then dropped off the curb with the weight now being thrown to the right causing it to roll over and ending upside down.

The vehicle would have had to have skidded across the roadway, but I can see no marks on the roadway to support that theory, so I could be all wrong. Hopefully, the newspaper will explain the details, and if so, I hope someone will give the explanation in tomorrow's TOTV.

I that was an SUV I’d say curb, or swerve or some wind. But flipping a big sedan takes some effort. The light pole hypothesis is the best - one end of car up on the pole while the other drops off the curb.

Driver was pulling into the resident entrance and trying to find the gate card when the passenger front tire hit the curb. The driver panicked and hit the accelerator, hit the street light and rode up the pole, rolling the vehicle onto its top.

Seriously,.....RED car. Something about those who choose a red car tend to drive more aggressively. This is just a personal theory of mine. I am pointing it out and asking if anyone knows of psychological studies about color preference od car?

That circle is one of the worst! Given the cars going north/south plus the road from Neighborhood Walmart plus Pinellas. I see folks trying to beat other vehicles there ALL the time at the circles. They see "you" coming around and they are already going fast but increase their speed instead of yielding. NOW the "birds" are coming back as well so traffic will increase. I didn't see a post on "the other news" so we'll see perhaps if anything will be posted about this accident.

Average weight car of this type (4,300 lbs.) x 20 mph = 86,000 lbs of force pushing in the right direction, could easily roll a car.

With the vast amount of knowledge in TV, this guess could easily be picked apart. This idea is submitted to offer a look at forces resulting in collisions.

Another example: Golf cart passenger ( not wearing a seat belt)weighing 200 lbs does the same thing going 15 mph. The force created by the passenger to continue in the original direction of travel would be approximately 3000 lbs. Good luck holding to something against that force.

It all started as a misunderstanding when a resident, originally from Indiana, was talking to a friend to mentioned 'cow tipping' and misunderstood what was said due to a hearing aid malfunction. I came upon the scene shortly after EMS got there. I saw a smaller car just past the gate with the rear end bashed in. I thought that it was the result of a medical condition or someone got confused and hit the accelerator.

A 93-year-old woman did not slow down and saw a car at the gate. Swerved, ran up the light pole, overturned, and still hit the waiting car.
No serious injuries ( other than her car) were reported.
