My wife and I are returning to the villages late September, early October time frame. We are going to to join the Fenny Fit Club and would like to hire a personal trainer 2-3 days a week for weight training for ~ 60-90 minutes each day. According to Fit Club rules the trainer must also be a member of the fit club. If you , or know somebody with personal training experience, please DM me. My name is Cliff and I live in Marsh Bend.

As I understand the rules, no one can use Villages property to teach private or group lessons of any type for a fee. All teachers or trainers must be employed by The Villages. This includes golf, tennis, any other types of recreation type activities.

Do The Villages even have paid fitness personal trainers?

I don't know, but you can check out the classes offered by the Enrichment Academy on the "districtgov.org" website, under the Recreation Department.

You can hire one at the Genesis/MVP gyms...

This rule makes sense. Why should a private business be able to make a profit by using Villages facilities for free to conduct teaching or training activities at the expense of Villages residents?

I just recently joined the Genesis health club and have purchased a twelve 1/2-hour lesson package. I am very pleased with the trainer, but I think you have to figure why and how long you need a trainer. My view is I told him what my goal is, and he is instructing me how to achieve it.
Once I understand what I have to do and the equipment that I should use to get me there it is up to me. Really think it out before you jump into this.

It's easy to help/train someone in a public gym around these silly rules. Simply take turns on a machine or weight station. Talk to them about form etc while they're doing their set. Then have them see how you do yours. Nobody will come up and tell you to stop. I've worked as a personal trainer back when Nautilus machines were still a thing, remember those?

I'm not a certified trainer and not advertising. Just saying that you can develop a workout buddy system and familiarize someone with the equipment that way.

One usually doesn’t hire a trainer to teach them the equipment then move on.

A certified trainer is usually like a life partner, using them for years. One may think they have gained some knowledge then drop the instructor. Not really what a personal trainer really shines at. As one evolves in your routine, mindset and muscles change, so should your workouts. I have used the same trainer regularly 13 years

My yogi is from India, I value every minute. Just my body language waking into the room tells her something is wrong or right. It’s been 15 years, as I said like a life partner

Maybe. But I know that the Recreation Department manager has personally told some billiards players to stop giving lessons. It has also been an issue with golfers. So, some people who want golf lessons will go to the Continental Country Club.

This is not a criticism of anyone or anything, but one thing about amazes me about our generation is how compliant we have all become. Afterall we were the original rebellious generation. We were the generation of campus protest, government shutdowns, burning bras, protest marches etc. We were the ones who created No justice No peace. We were the generation that said, never trust the government. Now, whenever someone rings a bell we just get in line. It seem as though our generation has become our parents.

Just an observation.

....and your parents were of The Greatest Generation, so if you have become your parents, you have finally improved yourself!

I hate to be so blunt, but weight training is NOT rocket science. Buy a book on the subject, save money, and do it yourself!

Yes, trust no one over age 30. Now, for years, I have NOT been able to trust myself.

Not so fast, if you keep doing the same exercises, you plateau. Your routine should be well rounded. Maybe after you go on your own you should periodically see him to change your routine up and make sure you’re still in good form. Just some friendly advice from a personal trainer 😊

Hi,

I used an expensive one-on-one personal trainer for 4 years. It was a good experience and I did enjoy it but now I have found on online personal training option that is 1/3 the cost and almost as good. It is called CoPilot and here is the info if you are interested:

Achieve your fitness goals with CoPilot! Your remote personal trainer will design you a personalized workout plan and hold you accountable. No equipment or gym required.

You can get a 14 day free trial and then it is $99 per month. I cannot put a link in here because it think it is spam but just google mycopilot

Good luck!
