Crazy nutty out of control environmental protesters around the world.
You may have seen these nuts on your news sources. Throwing paint and stuff on museum paintings. Barricading roads. Protests. AND… gluing hands and feet etc to roads or floors.
Current example at the US Open tennis tournament in NY last night. A 40 minute delay due to protesters in the stands screaming etc. 4 idiots. One actually glued their feet to the floor. So play disrupted due to these out of control crazies.
What do they accomplish? And who funds these nut jobs. OK protest to your hearts content but do NOT impact others.
If I was in charge last night, kick the 3 out of the stadium as they did. And leave the glued-feet nut job right there all night. Sweep the floor around them. Bye bye. Idiots.

The answer is to arrest and prosecute them, and give them a long prison sentence. But, today there is very little accountability for people who commit crimes.

They got themselves on the news - that's probably exactly what they wanted to accomplish.
Agree - protest all you want but do not impact others. Some will see the news and start following them; I will see them impacting others and become determined to not give them the satisfaction.

Their excuse goes something like this. I had no idea the Collosseum was a historical monument nor how old it was. My deepest and sincere apologies to all Italians. What did they think they were visiting? Universal Studios or Disneyland? If I was there, I would have bought them more glue giving the police more time to arrive. Then sat back and watched in amusement.

Except that they won't, and they know it.
Cornball shenanigans have always been a time-honored method of calling attention to some "cause" or other. A few years back, in Minnesota and (I believe) North Dakota, a few scruffy treehuggers got themselves in the news by chaining themselves to various implements and structures which were to be used to replace a deteriorating oil pipeline. I believe that some of the protesters even chained themselves to a fence at the Minnesota Capitol building in St. Paul. Never quite saw the logic in protesting against replacing an existing proven leaky pipeline with new sound one, but in any case the scruffy bunch got their usual drooling media coverage. I remember the outcry against their antics , but it didn't matter. There were certainly enough chargeable crimes in that entire mess to keep local courtrooms busy for quite awhile. But aside from droning a few platitudes and administering a few slaps on the wrists, the local law did nothing, and things just dragged on--and on--and on.
Maybe some things are still pending. I don't know. But you can bet the farm that the more time passes, the less likely anything will be done to address the various crimes that these folks engaged in.

Well let us see……maybe we should protest them and their individual actions and I guess to be effective we would then have to “impact” them severely. But then we for the most part are civilized and respectful of others. As I said….for the most part or at least most times unless provoked

Law and order is fast becoming a central issue. It’s the passive acceptance of crime in our major cities, public events and across the world. Guess who I’m voting for in 2024?
The party that stormed the Capitol? Hurt 140 police officers? Smeared feces on the hallowed halls?

Most anti-democratic countries like communist China, and fascist Russia, don’t allow their citizens the full freedom of protesting. They end up in prison. Be careful for what you ask for taking away one’s freedom of protest. It’s the core of great democracy. It doesn’t matter if you agree, or disagree with what they are protesting about. Cheer their right to disagree and get attention towards their passion.

I (and I doubt the majority of others who post here) have no problem with protesting, as long as it is done within the law. Cities have laws that govern where, when and how a protest must be conducted. But for example when your "protest" closes down a major freeway and blocking traffic for more than an hour (as I have personally witnessed), or other such actions that impede commerce or (as in all too many cases) endangers lives, then it is no longer a protest but instead, civil disobedience, with legal penalties that vary from state to state.
Sure. Protest. But don't trample on the rights or the well-being of others in the process.

Remember when that bat-sh.t insane woman handcuffed herself to the front doors of Twitter headquarters in New York?
More recently - a bunch of actual American Nazis in Florida waving their flags and wearing their nazi insignia pins and patches doing the heil hitler thing over the underpass to cars driving below (which distracts the drivers and can cause car accidents).
Or nazis in Florida yelling at the crowds that "Jews will not replace us" - basically terrorizing passersby.

I totally agree with everything you're saying but this is not isolated to climate change activist. In the past few years, we have seen the defacing of synagogues, office holders and judges being threatened and not only themselves, but also their children. This country better get a grip, because if we don't this is going to become worst. I'm getting to believe this is not going to stop until we start seeing bodies buried.

The next to last paragraph says "Protest to your heart's content, but do NOT impact others" - is basically an impossibility to achieve. The point and purpose of ANY protest is to influence others and bring them around to your way of thinking. The WHOLE idea for doing a protest REQUIRES that it "impacts others".It is a little bit like the MOST annoying advertisements on television.....people don't like them, but they tend to REMEMBER them.

I disagree - there is just as much accountability today for people committing crimes as there was in the past. In fact, with all the video cameras recording everything in public places - this probably gives MORE accountability today. In some high-profile cases, someone gets away with something. But, as Abe Lincoln once said, "You can't fool ALL of the people ALL of the time.

There are GOOD protests and BAD protests depending on which side a person is on. Take the famous Boston Tea Party. People in the Colonies liked it. People in England in that era saw that action as an illegal protest. The recent incident at the US Open Tennis Championship was about some aspect of protesting climate change.
.........Which personally, I see as the #1 problem in the world right now. Personally, I would NOT have done what they did. But, I also can relate to the idea that the problem of Global Warming is being grossly ignored by the average citizen. While scientists are screaming it to the rooftops and few are listening.

Note that in those last two examples you didn't mention anything illegal being done. What would you have government do about those two cases, stop someone from speaking because the message was offensive?
Florida has hate crime laws and statutes. From the state's PDF on the topic:
A hate crime is an act committed or attempted by one person or group against
another - or that person's property - that in any way constitutes an expression of
hatred toward the victim based on his or her personal characteristics. It is a crime in
which the perpetrator intentionally selects the victim based on one of the following
characteristics: race, color, religion, ethnicity, ancestry, national origin, sexual
orientation, homeless status, advanced age or mental/physical disability.
Wearing Nazi insignia (including some who proudly sported SS pins) while lined up on public walkways while shouting "Jews will not replace us" to passersby is considered intimidation and, by definition, a hate crime. Here's the pdf link:

I agree with the concept of the middle being the desired area. I DO HOWEVER find it amusing that so many differences of opinions can be BOILED down to just 2 people. It's like we are still in the 2nd century BC where the LEADERS are considered GODS. How can ONE PERSON be so important? If I ran the world, we would have as our President a 3 or 5 member COMMITTEE, never ONE PERSON. To me it is UNCIVILIZED.
........ONE person can become a Dictator - 3 or 5 people CANNOT!

Interesting punishment - ignoring the fact that fire ants are rarely NORTH of Tn.

Florida has hate crime laws and statutes. From the state's PDF on the topic:
Wearing Nazi insignia (including some who proudly sported SS pins) while lined up on public walkways while shouting "Jews will not replace us" to passersby is considered intimidation and, by definition, a hate crime. Here's the pdf link:

And how many were arrested?
IANAL but I suspect “an act committed “ means more than speech.

Hate crimes include intimidation. I mean - I can jump down the rabbit hole and come up with the exact laws, definitions, and statutes, but I'm a senior, my lifespan is limited, and I'm not in the mood to do your homework for you. If you want more information, check case law, state general statutes, federal law, and local regulations with regards to hate crimes and discrimination based on religion.

Who each will fly home on their private jets without a clue the protest was about them
The protest was NOT about either rich people or poor people. Because BOTH are implicated in Global Warming. Middle-class people are driving gas-polluting, earth-killing golf carts, lawnmowers, cars, and trucks when they SHOULD be driving Electric vehicles!

I agree that we are approaching a turning point.

and, i guess climate change deniers are not nuts when 99% of the scientist that have publish papers say that burning fossil fuel is causing the planet heating up. We are very close to the tipping point. You are causing your grand and great-grandchildren to inherit a plant that is uninhabitable. I do not think you are nuts. Instead, i think you and those like you are stupid.

Ya, cuz when I'm horribly inconvenienced and irritated, I immediately change my view to whatever the idiots irritating me think. Everyone does! Immediately!
Protests are more like REMINDERS.........that can change SOME minds on the margin.....you go Greta Thunberg!

A couple of yahoos actually hurting the message about Global Warming they were trying to send.
Looks like there were four of these protesters.
She handled it with class. Coco Gauff 'can't really get upset' at climate protesters who caused 45-minute delay in her US Open semifinal | CNN (https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/07/tennis/us-open-tennis-climate-protesters-spt/index.html)
He handlers told her to say that. Can you imagine the "cancellation" that would occur if she trashed them?

Yeah, I'm sure it happened...
Not a single reputable source is reporting that...

I wonder how many posters on TOTV were Nuclear Disarmament and Ban the Bomb or anti-Vietnam War protesters when that was all the rage?
They weren't exactly law abiding, or disruption free.
I went to a "No Nukes" concert once...
Oh, and I yelled "ROTC Off Campus" out my dorm window another time...

And people are receiving MASSIVE jail sentences for it...

I’m the OP. Very disappointed that so many of the posts are Political. Where are the Mods???? I recall making a very minor mention of politics months ago and got an infraction. I guess it comes down to the Mod on duty and their leaning.
No “standards” re political mentioning on TOTV. Simply go back and check off the posts that ARE political-mentioning. Still there. And really they all seem to reflect “one side”. Enough said.
"The Mods" don't read every thread. If you want them to see a problem post, report it using the little red triangle in the upper right corner of the problematic post...
