Attended an Old Mill movie last night and was blown away by the filth that was throw in our faces. Some coming attractions are bad, but this was the height of obscenity. Having to be captive to such profanity for 5 minutes made us sick. I would think the Villages majority would not even think of going to this movie, yet it has landed here. How very sad.

At the risk of being censored again. The profanity, risky behavior, sexual connotations and the filthy end product, I am disappointed that people continue to pay money to watch this disgusting display of so-called acting. It permeates our society to the point that we tolerate it and think it's no big deal. Well, it is a big deal. I can't wait to get the infraction notice.

I am curious. Have you really been censored for a post such as this? I am struggling to find anything political, inappropriate, or a personal attack. I have been censored, but usually because I direct my comment to someone directly or use a political term (or color).

#1 Personally don't care for such movies and they seem to continue to up the level of violence and language each year, but #2 also think if there was no market for this type of thing, including in the villages, it would not be financially astute to do so, and #3, I "thought" there were "strict regulations" concerning what previews can contain since the audience may contain young children ?
Not that I agree with this at all, but seems when we attend a family movie we have no choice but to remove ourselves ! Stay in the lobby, or go buy snacks until the preview is over ! Certainly not the way it should be, but if we are in any social situation with really offensive behaviors and /or language, we'd just walk away !

I enjoyed watching a few seasons of that, although there was quite a bit of unneccesary explicit sex. Then, a new season opened with sex scenes of Jamie and Claire, Roger and Brianna, and Murtagh and (blind) Jocasta. It just got too ridiculous for me.

Relative to the comment about people discussing just about anything...:
Simple, controversy sells. ToTV probably loves the clickbait for their algorithms which then generates ad revenues. See it all the time. It also equals Infraction clickbait for certain types of posters, see that all the time too.
Interesting too is that if I am not mistaken if you look at the actual location for ToTV it is in South FL, no where near T V.

We attended an Old Mill Theatre movie last night and extremely offended by the filth that was throw in our faces. Some coming attractions are bad, but this was the height of obscenity (I think it is called Dumb Money). Having to be held hostage to such constant profanity for 5 minutes made us sick at heart. I would think the Villages' majority would not even think of going to this movie and being accosted for 2 hours, yet it has landed here. How very sad. And even if possibly someone would want to see this, it is morally reprehensible and unfair that we have to sit through this unwanted assault. I earnestly would ask the theatre to remove this film. I pray it is boycotted by the decent here and it is soon gone.

I so agree with you. Last year I took a group of 6 to the Savanna to see a show about the 80’s and was most uncomfortable. I guess that is just showing my age but I did ask for a refund and no one would respond to me. I’ll be very careful to choose wisely in the future. I had always enjoyed any show before and didn’t think I would ever see this distasteful entertainment in The Villages.

But not that easy. The OP wants the theater to remove the show. He/she is attempting to appoint themselves censor of all things "entertaining" based on whatever moral standards they believe everyone else should abide by. And nobody else can decide what their own moral compass indicates since he/she won't even name the movie. And they start a second thread for the same topic. It's called Dumb Money. Anyone who goes to an "R" rated movie starring Pete Davidson and Seth Rogen and then gets offended over some coarse language is not a reasonable person. Most reviews are actually pretty good for the movie.

Was the op forced to see this movie? Did the op get up and leave when they heard this? If you don’t like nudity, swearing, fighting, adult situations, then limit your viewing to ‘G’ rated movies and you will be fine. We all have the power to view any movie we want to see, I would hate to be limited to what I can see because somebody doesn’t like swearing.

I really doubt that it was “the height of obscenity.” If you think so, your experience is very limited. I’m sure the trailer was rated R or less. Chances are, I wouldn’t like what I saw in the trailers, either. Here’s the thing, though: the trailers show you what to avoid. If you are offended by the trailer, you know better than to go see the movie. Maybe that trailer saved you from spending money on a film you might otherwise have gone to see.
Maybe you should go see “Bambi” instead. Cute little deer. Oh, wait, Bambi’s mom gets shot by a hunter. And Bambi makes babies somehow with Filene.

At the outset of our marriage we decided not to see any R rated movies. Do what you want but that's what we chose to do. We don't like the language, excessive gore or being in the private of someone else bedroom. Sometimes but fairly rarely we miss the opportunity to see what looks like a good movie.
Today however, these R rated movies are often on regular TV with little or no editing. Even today's PG-13 movies often cross over the line in our opinion. To us this is a reflection of the decay, acceptable by many, we see in our world today.

I thought this thread was going to be about materials stuck in our roof's gutters.
Still would rather have free expression of art and the like without something like the Hayes Commission resurfacing. Hollywood put a lot in code to get around the Hayes Commission like you would when talking around a little kid.

On another subject, I found Strays very endearing and funny.

What movie did you go to see. If the theater was showing a PG movie, and the coming attractions were R, I can understand. As we get older it seems the world has gone mad. Either we are becoming too sensitive, or the world actually has gone mad. What was the movie attractions that bothered you so much?

I so agree with you. Last year I took a group of 6 to the Savanna to see a show about the 80’s and was most uncomfortable. I guess that is just showing my age but I did ask for a refund and no one would respond to me. I’ll be very careful to choose wisely in the future. I had always enjoyed any show before and didn’t think I would ever see this distasteful entertainment in The Villages.

There is a lot more graphic violence and sex in movies and TV shows that you would rarely see in movies in the 1970s and even 1980s.
And video games seem to be way out there.
Strays probably would have received an X rating in the 70s. But it is kind of average for bathroom humor movies in the 2023s.

It's called Dumb Money. Anyone who goes to an "R" rated movie starring Pete Davidson and Seth Rogen and then gets offended over some coarse language is not a reasonable person. Most reviews are actually pretty good for the movie.
I "THINK" the OP was OK with the movie, but found the coming attraction unacceptable. I "think". If both are rated R (The feature and the coming attraction) I really see no issue.

I enjoyed watching a few seasons of that, although there was quite a bit of unneccesary explicit sex. Then, a new season opened with sex scenes of Jamie and Claire, Roger and Brianna, and Murtagh and (blind) Jocasta. It just got too ridiculous for me.

Not sure why anyone would expect The Villages to be some perfect mecca of wholesomeness. After all the Villages age groups would have become adults in about the 60s and 70s when Woodstock and free love was in the air. Was I dreaming when I thought (?) I get that the OP was talking about the PREVIEW of the movie Dumb Money. And so, I watched the full trailer, put out by Sony pictures. The basic premise of the movie: It's a "based on true story" story about the GameStop stock phenomena, and how Wall Street had a major freak-out because of it.
Here's a little clue for the Puritans among you: F-bombs happen even in The Villages. Some folks drop them in almost every sentence. Some pepper their speech more cautiously, somewhat akin to a "mild" salsa that isn't really mild, it's just less spicy than "medium."
Davidson in particular is known, both in real life and in movies, to make generous and copious use of vulgar verbiage. It's kind of his thing, in addition to his freakish appearance and generally inappropriate behavior on talk shows.
Because it was a preview, it would have been prefaced with a blurb: "This PREVIEW has been rated r, and approved for audiences age 18 and up" or similar. At that point, before the preview actually begins, Puritans and Virgins need to shut off their hearing aids, until the preview is over.

I remember my Mom went with a group of neighborhood ladies and walked out of one of the more obscene movies playing at the Old Mill Playhouse or at least at one of the Villages theaters.
Probably was this one-- Dirty Grandpa - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_Grandpa).
It is all subjective. One person's art is another person's trash.
Anybody here see the play The Book of Mormon? I saw it in Minneapolis some years back. It was raw, coarse, obscene...but at the same time riotously funny. I can't remember any time I've laughed as hard as I did at that play. Some--a few--folks did walk out. The rest of us enjoyed ourselves hugely.
Interesting, though, how the Mormon community reacted. Some were there, enjoying the play as much as the rest of us. At the end, though, they were out front handing out cards that read (in paraphrase) "You've seen and enjoyed the movie. But would you like to know more about the real Church of Latter Day Saints"? Which I thought was a really classy way for them to react.

I, personally, am NOT a praying type. However, I also believe that "it takes all kinds to make a world". I think praying works for SOME people. I also assume that, on average, people who pray are less likely to be criminals and violent evildoers. They won't be perfect people, but, at least, they are trying to do the right things. And they may be very happy people for the acts of praying.
.......I tend to prefer individual people praying as opposed to the organized church-going type of group prayers. I have seen too much worldwide negativity that occurs when one religion dislikes another religion. Like ethnic groups, religions often separate more than unify humanity. Many people get a lot of personal satisfaction, humanity, and wisdom from organized religion. Possibly, overall, it is a good thing. Myself, I just see a lot of negatives. So many things divide people and organized religion has a history and the power to do just that.
........I guess that it gets back to being a good thing that people are individuals and have differences.

We saw it in London some years ago and agree very funny. Makes fun of almost all religions. With one major exception Muslims.
On the way out lots of the cast and theater employees were saying hi to the folks leaving and got into a discussion with the manager.
Asked him what did he think would happen if the Muslims were shown in a bad light. His answer was they would burn the place down.

We feel the same way with what’s broadcast on TV. We were looking for a good series to watch and most any of the. We new series out have a lot of profanity, nudity, and sex scenes that should only be on porno movies, “F” this “F” that. Now, we only watch series from 10 years ago or older. Much more enjoyable to watch. We are tired of having this filth in our face! We are opting out!

Floods, earthquakes, fires etc, let me know how that (praying) works out for you.
Prayer is a powerful force and it does work. Just yesterday I prayed and received all of the following blessings.
Prayed for my sister in poughkeepsie to have success with her hemorrhoid operation and all turned out well.
Prayed for Uncle Melville to find some joy in his life and lo and behold he found a lovely lady at the square dance festival that he's shacking up with.
Prayed for the strength to confront my Nasty neighbor, Elijah about peeking into my bedroom window at night. I gave him the dickens and insisted that he stop his invasion of my privacy.
My prayers are always answered. You just have to pray for the right things at the right times.
If you're not having good luck with your prayer efforts, let me know and I'll pray for you to have better results with your prayers.

So really all the OP needed to do, was pray that the previews for the movies would all be non-vulgar.

he should pray that he grows a stiffer spine and loses some of his puritanical sensibilities, which went out of fashion in the 1700's.

Just finished binge watching “Outlander” that series would shock the OP.
I started reading the series of Outlander over 20 years ago. Like all books, this specific series is wonderful because the reader can envision the scenes and characters. The author did an excellent job in her description of characters, scenery and historical events. The reader can also involve themselves in the sex scenes or skim over them, as their wishes in any other book (there are not nearly as many as in the tv series).
However as a woman, I just love looking at the character of Jamie without a shirt on the tv series, lol.
Back to the previews of upcoming movies, I totally agree with the OP. I have also been to movies (such as comedies) and found the previews of movies with violence and the "F word" used as every word.
My ears won't fall off, but I don't talk that way and don't know anyone who does Also, I could have brought an underaged guest which would have been very inappropriate.

Once upon a time in England, women weren't permitted to perform in plays. And so men performed the roles in drag, for the public audience including families with small children. This occurred in the late 1500's during the time of Shakespeare.
Now, it's illegal to perform in drag anywhere where children might attend, in Florida.

Originally movie standards you could show a gun but could not show directly firing at an individual. Bedroom scenes required couples to be in separate beds, if they were in the same bed it was required they each had one foot to be on floor
