In another thread someone had a post that said something like “Dabney will have the only adult resort pool in the Villages”. What do they mean by resort pool? Just a bigger pool? Wondering because as a lake Denham owner Dabney will be our closest adult pool. There is no neighborhood pool in lake Denham. Only the rec centers.

Our salesperson said the pool was an Adult Pool, I'd ignore the "resort" label. There are lots of adult pools throughout TV.

A "resort-style" pool, in the local vernacular, refers to a pool that is not rectangular, typically with what I would call cloverleafs.

Yes, that is correct. South of route 44, most adult pools are "curvy shaped" like the ones in St. Cats and Citrus Grove.
The resort styled pools like Fenney, Homestead, and the new one in Franklin are all family pools.
If the new resort style pool in Dabney is an adult pool, I wonder if it will be deeper than the shallow resort style family pools.

Just a fancy name for a pool with added features such as a walk in pool, rock landscaping, waterfalls, etc…. In my book, if it’s not a 25 yard long rectangular pool with swim lanes and flags it’s worthless.

Look at ADULT pool or FAMILY pool (sports pool too, but adult and family are where you would lounge).
No one under 30 allowed at adult pool.
Resort style is the shape of the pool, usually vs a rectangle.

Neighborhood pools are rectangular in my neck of the woods near Lake Sumter Landing. Our neighborhood pools are for adults only.

I do believe, as pointed out above that the term 'resort' when describing a pool in TV now has come to mean a zero entry pool (no steps-only a gradual incline to enter). Whether we think that determines the adjective 'resort' or not is a moot point-I think that's the descriptor. (Like Fenney)

Actually, the majority of the pools in TV have steps (or ladders), so are not technically a 'walk-in' pool at all. Those have inclines that allow you to walk straight into full depth, not via stairs.

Two things - the other post was written by another member here and not TV. Second, they likely meant "in the area" of West Lake.

To me, "resort style" brings up memories of large pools, with shaded areas, water falls, grotto, slides, in-water seating, food+beverage service... they types of things you see at a resort hotel in a tourist area. Sections for kids far apart from adults. Also next to other amenities like hot tubs, food services, tables with shade umbrellas, large overhead shades, lots of seating, lots of lounge space, and amazing landscaping. Lastly, typically with a lifeguard on duty.
Here, the term means nothing. Sales pitch garbage words.
There are "resort style" pools that are round or square; with walk in gradients or steps. Little shade if any, with chairs and lounges. Food service is an overpriced soda vending machine. None of the other things that one finds in a resort. Why??? those things cost a few pennies more.

I was thinking something like the pool at Orange Blossom Country Club, which is what you describe. But you have to pay a membership to go to that pool.

The correct answer is it’ll be the first adult resort style pool, rather than a family pool. It’ll be like the pools at Franklin, Waterlily, Fenney, Riverbend, Homestead, Clarendon… just to name a few, but it’ll be for adults only whereas all resort pools down here south of 44 so far have been designated a family pool. I don’t believe it’ll be zero or beach entry like Fenney and (I think) Riverbend since the most recent resort style pools like Clarendon in Richmond, and Franklin in Newell, have steps to enter, not a zero entry walk-in with no steps. The depth will still be 5’ max.

I believe all the rectangular pools are sports pools.
No, many rectangular pools are NOT sports pools. They are simply adult pools with many residents WALKING sideways and making swimming nearly impossible for others. I am NOT saying that the sideways-walking residents do not deserve to do THAT type of exercise. I am glad that it works for them. I am just saying that it would be nice to have wider rectangular pools and several roped-off sections on the side for swimmers. I believe that Laurel Manor does it that way at some times on some days. That is the best of both worlds - for the occasional swimmer and the sideways-walker types.

That's why the sports pools have lanes for swimming. Laurel Manor is a sports pool. Neighborhood/Adult Pools are more for relaxation and socializing. As usual another confusing, contradicting post.

The pools are not "Resort," and the golf courses are definitely not "Country Clubs."

A resort style pool by definition is an elegant pool with luxurious facilities like a beautiful shade, lounging furniture and sometimes accompanied with outdoor dining .

Sports pools, including Mulberry, are 25 yards long, not 50 meters. The one exception is Savannah, which is not a regulation length lap pool and is shorter than 25 yards. Mulberry (and Laurel Manor) are definitely the largest pools by volume as they are the only sports pools with a deep end and diving blocks so they can hold competitive swimming events. No other sports pools have a deep end, which is better for things like water volleyball and water walking.

Yup. 100% agree!
100+ "pools" in TV and no place to SWIM!
If you try to swim in any neighborhood pool, you get dirty looks (unless it's empty which is rare.)
The sports pools get booked all day long with volleyball and aerobics classes. If by chance you can find a one hour block somewhere with the lane ropes, it's usually at the worst times like early in the morning or just before dusk. You then wait in the hot sun for a lane to open for your turn and someone else jumps in ahead of you and takes the lane, or, every lane is filled with walkers instead or staying on the non-lane side of the pool.
Yet another amenity that is all part of the 'Lifestyle' illusion. Oh well.

I know for a fact that they are neither 25 feet or meters, they are 25 yards (75 feet). Trust me, I swim +/- 400 miles per year, which is approximately 28,800 laps. I could swim one lap and know if a pool wasn’t 25 yards.

I absolutely love the internet. Love it. Only on the internet could a question about resort pools become an argument of yards vs meters.
Let me clear this up. 1 meter is equal to 1.0936133 yards.
If one of you lap swimmers can tell me which one you are swimming in, 25 yards or 25 meters, I'll buy you 4 vodkas at Sawgrass in a plastic cup.
E TA: please bring me a vodka soda in the resort pool at Dabney when you pass by on one of your laps. LOL

Wondering because as a lake Denham owner Dabney will be our closest adult pool. There is no neighborhood pool in lake Denham. Only the rec centers. Well, if you live in the Villages of Briar Meadow, Woodbury, Piedmont, Belle Aire, Glenbrook, Alhambra or Santo Domingo you don't have a neighborhood pool OR a neighborhood recreation center either. To me, that MIGHT be the ONLY advantage of a purchase below 466 - but we have considerably better access to shopping and dining. Our neighborhoods have much more attractive, mature landscaping. In addition, a considerable percentage of homes have upgraded kitchens and baths. Loving it more each day (after more than 13 years)! They should have made a sports pool there. Ezel is gonna be crowded. The amenities are a great selling point for most home buyers. As we all eventually learn, many are not available. There are too many residents wanting to do the same activities at the same time, some are closed because they cannot take any more members, and others you have to show up an hour early to get a spot. I rotate my schedule and am happy with doing whatever is open. Avoiding the crowds is a chore, but I have learned to deal with it.

I just now checked The Villages website regarding reserving a swim lane to walk in. There is no such designation regarding "reserving" a lane for walking or swimming, In fact, I learned something I did not know............"If space is available and lap lanes are full, the open swim area may be used for lap swimming". I have always waited for a swim lane to open up as that was what I was told when I first started swimming in the Sport's pools. Nice to know it is OK if I swim in the open part of the pool as long as space is available.

Now, I live in the southern area to be closer to family and friends. You are not missing much down here. The amenities and pools are usually full. You have to plan your day around the crowds. Even then, you may still have to wait or miss out completely. There aren't many places to shop but I believe that will change.
