Our moving truck is coming this week and we've been reading and researching all things TV for which ToV has been outstanding. We just found Next Door and wondering whether you all find it useful and if there are other forums and apps to consider?

Next Door is much better for references of Contractors, Doctors, etc.

On Next Door you can give both positive and negative reviews.

There are significantly more active posters on Next Door.

Obviously, with any site.............there is The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.

There are a few pages on Facebook for The Villages.

I find that NextDoor has more of the "This one time, at Band Camp" posts...

Next door is much friendlier. I've never seen a snarky remark there. There are not posters that feel that it's necessary to post on every thread, that's quite common here.

I was on NextDoor for years, then they changed their new posts notification format to a form I hate, so I gave up, it took me way too long to find the latest messages, and then more time to figure out which ones I had or had not replied to. Then there was no technical support. I went back for a couple of months, had the same problems, and gave up.

I really tried to stick with front door. It just doesn’t work for me.

Here's my 2 1/2 cents- TOTV is VERY informative but gets snarky real quick, and seems to be dominated by a core group of cronies (wonder if this post will get deleted)-Next Door is the place to complain about how things 'used to be', if you are so inclined-having said that, you will also get some good referrals from there if you ask the right questions-Facebook is the wild wild west-BUT-if you hook up with a local community 'group', then you'll find yourself creating a social network of support that transcends even the key board. For the most part-like most things in life, you'll get out of it what you put into it.
I said 2 1/2 cents-not even a nickel.

Dewey....there is a facebook group called The Villages Friendly Folks which is a great resource for information much like Nextdoor. NO political posts are allowed and NO nasty comments allowed, or you will be deleted. She runs a tight ship.

Stay away from next door - just a gripe forum and it's many, many folks outside of TV in the forum.. Great advice here on TOTV and various Facebook pages, including a great page for Doctor referrals.

I wouldn't use the Nextdoor app as it's privacy nightmare.

If you need to use it go through a good web browser and use a VPN. That goes for any social media app as they're all just data mining applications that sells your personal information.

Find your village's FB group and join. It's a great way to stay connected to your neighbors and get their recommendations, etc. on contractors, restaurants, places to visit, etc.

Once you get here, talk with your neighbors and Villagers you meet at clubs, squares, etc. it's truly Florida’s friendliest hometown,

FYI - you are not permitted to use the word "crappy" on Nextdoor when responding to a post. You will get a popup telling you, "Kind words matter". How crappy is that?

I disagree. There are far too many posters from outside TV, who post in TV-centric posts, bashing those who live here...

And there are just as many "serial posters" there as there are here...
