and unpacked what I need for the night out of the POD. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!:pepper2:

We plan to sleep on the sleep-sofa :swear: the first night, so that is right at the door of the POD. That will be the first thing we attempt to get into the house, followed by the bin that has the sheets.

Where we are getting in so late and we don't want to upset our new neighbors, so that will be about all we try to get into the house that night. I already have a microwave coffemaker and coffee packed in my suitcase for morning. Can only wonder what security scanner folks will think about my suitcase!

Now I just have to figure out where I can pick up :wine: on the way there... if it were any day but Christmas it probably wouldn't be an issue.

Just remembered that the PODS guy put wire ties around the lock - NOTE TO SELF - add a pair of scissors to that checked suitcase or we'll be sleeping on the floor!

Sounds like a good plan. Enjoy.

I just remembered that the Circle K in Southern Trace sold wine (albeit not the same quality as Garvino's) and they are open Christmas day. I just called them and they can sell wine until midnight.

Sorry to disappoint you Russ, but neither of us are really into bubbly. I will sip some for a toast or maybe at a wine tasting. We just haven't really found any that jumped into our shopping basket.

Now if we are talking about a malbec, zin or carmenere - those just seem to multiply in the basket between the shelves and the register!

we will be sleeping on blow up beds next week.

First day for us will be Jan 8th and our first purchase will be mattress/box. We will have the blow up just in case. But we need a new mattress anyway so might as well buy one for down here and keep using our old one up north until we move in 2012.

Items in my checked luggage...

Microwave coffee maker - check
coffee (for morning) - check
scissors for wire ties - check
tools to put stuff together - check
corkscrew for wine - check

clothes - oops forgot to leave room for them! Maybe in my carry-on...

How silly of me, my carry-on will be filled it my travelling essential items
-socks to knit in progress
-shawl to knit in progress
-emergency yarn, knitting needles and patterns in case we stranded at an
airport for an extended time
-blackberry for calls
-ipod for listening to books

Looks like I will have to shop for clothes when I get there!

I bet once I explain all this to Jim he will find some room in his MUCH BIGGER suitcase to carry some items!

Don't forget the corkscrew!:wine:

A couple years ago, my traveling corkscrew was confiscated at Oakland airport on a trip to Orlando. Bummer!

Wally world on 466 might be open - probably a slightly better selection of wine than Circle K.

We slept on air mattresses for a couple years after we bought and only visited now and then. First furniture we bought was a Murphy Bed for the third BR - for guests; we still used an air mattress until we shipped down some of our furniture and bought a new mattress during the third year we owned.

My wife once brought a sewing machine on carry on - TSA couldn't figure out what it was.

Congrats!

I checked on Wallyworld - not open on Christmas day!

I keep a corkscrew in my the checked luggage all the time, but a couple of years ago stumbled across one that is "airline safe" - at least no problems out of Portsmouth, NH. It has not blade to cut the foil seal. I typically put it in the bin separate from all o ther carry-on and have no problem. The one time I left in IN my carry-on they went searching for it.

The other half is TOTALLY against a blow up mattress. Our son offered to lend us a Queen-size AeroBed and hubby refused to put it in the POD! The first thing we intend to look for is a king-size bedroom set... after we get the POD unloaded. If we don't find something that can be delivered ASAP, he can spend the second night on the sleep sofa and I will sleep on one of the daybeds! I know they are fairly comfortable. I have slept one of them when our grandson was at our house and was sick.

An $80 Queen air mattress from Wally World is firm and works great - our daughter in Denver has a $350 Aerobed in her guest room and it isn't any better than the $80 one.

If you go out to buy a king mattress in one day you could be shafted. We bought our mattress from JC Penney's on sale here in CA and had it delivered to TV at no charge - but they only make one trip a month to the TV area from their warehouse in (I believe) Georgia. We also bought a small Broyhill sofa for $650 that Southern Lifestyles in TV (who claims they can beat all prices) wanted $1,495. The Sales Mgr admitted that they couldn't beat a national retailer on sale items because the national retailer gets special factory prices. What a surprise!

Thanks for the input Chuck... we are heading to Leesburg. Don't have the location handy. Too late for the Queen Aerobed as the POD left last Monday.

He is going to have to settle for what we find in Leesburg

Don't forget to check out Sam's Club -- they have some pretty decent matresses. Only problem is they don't deliver, but you can rent a truck from Home Depot for an hour for about $20.00.

YOU sound like so much fun!!

I will search you out for a hug as soon as we return.

We were leaving to come home the day after Christmas and then I found out my persistent headache was an abcessed tooth. WE have to hang around this snow for two more weeks for another damned ROOT CANAL!! Even Sweetie is frowning.

YES I brush and floss.:(:(:(

As soon as we arrive Russ, and Kandj we have whatever you need to borrow.

Heading down from CT to our new home in TV in Pennecamp next Monday, cannot wait and wouldn't you know they are predicting snow for next Monday! Need to be there by Wed. as we have furniture, direct TV, golf cart all being delivered on Thurs. It will be crazy for a few days settling in. Have only spent a few days prior to this back in July for our walk through and to unpack a few things. Hated to leave, even with the heat. We can only be snowbirds for a few more years but hope to go back and forth a bit more. Hurry up Christmas, we need to be on our way!

You can take knitting needles in your carry-on. I always have at least one project with me when I fly. Did you know there is a yarn store very near to the Villages, called A Good Yarn? I found it advertised online, and can't wait to visit. We will be arriving 12/26.....

We got back to NH on Tuesday, I can't wait to get back to TV. We had so much to get done that we barely got to do the fun stuff we wanted to do. I know that as soon as we are down there full-time we can have all the fun we want. We did get to meet Redwitch, that was fun.

The yarn shop trip will have to wait until Jim is off and about. I started my "yarn IRA" a few years ago in anticipation of not being able to run out and buy the cashmeres and other fine yarns when we retire. Jim knows I have a lot of yarn, but not exactly how much! I stopped recording my stash into Ravelry when I hit three pages worth. It is mostly sock yarn (and we knitters know that sock yarn doesn't count as stash!) but I have lots of other stuff too.

Glad you made it home safely and even more glad that I had a chance to meet you two. Hope you're not freezing too much up there. It's cool here (probably warm by your standards but the blood gets thin quickly down here). So, hurry back!

We slept on a blowup bed for a month after we sold our house and got rid of our furnishings! It wasn't bad until it sprung a leak... Made our new mattress feel like a heavenly cloud!
