If you store a vehicles, Motorhome or truck at Smart Stop storage on Rolling Acres, you may want to check on your vehicle, our Motorhome had its catalytic converter removed (stolen) in the last couple of weeks. Lady Lake police said this is 2nd one they know about recently

I had mine stolen back in early 2022 right from my covered parking spot outside my unit early in the morning. Was told it's pretty common. Takes them under 5 minutes to remove. I was lucky they just unbolted it, if they had cut it out that's extra to fix. Cost me $550 for parts and labor + $350 to install bars to deter any potential 2nd theft. I got insurance to credit me after the deductible. You know it's gone when you start your car and it sounds like a motorcycle. I could still drive it, less power and loud, to the repair shop.I seriously wanted to $^$%#&# whoever did it.

If you store your motor home at The Villages storage lot, be aware that while it's cheap, it's very unprotected. There have been dozens of catalytic converters stolen off of motor homes stored there in the last couple years. The Villages only has cameras at the entrance. Thieves are cutting thru the fence at the back regularly and having their way. Been going on for a while and TV says, too bad, you got a good price, your insurance will cover. I moved my camper and Sea doo to the Smart Stop just because they have very good cameras.
And they require you to have insurance on your vehicles stored there.
OP should be thankful he's there and not TV storage.

Limited cameras in the vehicle storage areas, easy too hide among truck, campers and motorhomes

This is an old problem that goes on everywhere, and our area is not immune. The reason for the popularity of catalytic converter thefts has to do with the precious metals they contain. Converters contain small amounts of platinum, palladium and rhodium. While the amounts of these metals in catalytic converters is measured in grams, their value is exceptionally high. The average scrap value of an automobile catalytic converter is around $100, with some as high as $1,000. A thief with a battery powered sawzall can be under your vehicle, and have the cat removed in less than 30 seconds. A dedicated thief can net thousands of dollars in one night of "work."
