I'm interested in installing a retractable side-awning in my birdcage. The problem is that my house has siding, and all of the directions for products like this state that you have to connect it to a wall. Have any of you ever done anything like this? Suggestions? Here is an example of the product on Amazon. Just click on the link to see the image. Thanks for your help.

I am not familiar with your product, but the "connect to a wall" requirement would IMHO probably be met with suitable lag bolts into studs. Also, you may need wedges or other suitable spacers UNDER the siding to avoid crushing the siding. If you have narrow siding it may be possible to go in the valley of the siding for one bolt and then to the valley of the siding below to avoid spacers. I did something similar in our previous house using galvanized steel angle bolted to the wall, and then the awning bolted to the angle. Send me a PM to discuss further.
