View Full Version : Rent a Tesla?

Odd question but here goes. Is there anywhere close by where I can rent a Tesla, pref Model 3, for a day or so?
Need to pick someone up from Orl airport in a couple weeks. Do not want to drive our car there. And not subject them to bus-like transport here to TV. Or expensive car service.
We are planning to buy a Tesla 3 early next year. Would love to experience driving it again without going to Tesla store in Orlando, as we did months back to test.
I googled rentals but seems they are all near Orlando. And only would like it for a day or so…. Any suggestions? Please no sarcasm re EVs and such…

Try Turo to see if you can find one locally from an owner or look at the Hertz website, I know they rent them but not sure if they do so locally.

Thanks. I have checked out online Turo as well. Seems to be nothing avail in this area around TV. Do not want to attempt Hertz in Spanish Springs; they no doubt cannot guarantee a specific type of car avail….

Not trying to be sarcastic, just a realist. You don’t want to use a car service because of expenses, yet are looking to rent a very expensive vehicle, pay highway tools, and somehow charge it while the entity renting it turns a profit to make it worth their while? Hope it works out for ya.

I find it hard to believe an owner of a rather expensive car would rent to someone he does not know.

Hertz in The Villages have Teslas for rent. I have done it. I suggest to book a bit in advance to make sure you get one.

Yeah…I was kinda wondering the same thing? What’s wrong with your car that you THINK you need to rent one of those expensive POS? To all: Did you know they actually cost more to run than a gas car. Yes, electricity costs more than gasoline on a per mile basis. Look it up.

Check out Turo as others have posted. Many expensive, personal cars for you to rent.

Incorrect on the charge per mile for electric. From personal experience, at the midnight to 6am SECO rate of .07/KW the cost is less than $1.00 per 100 miles….at the supercharger rate of .31 about $4.00.

Use Turo, remember though your credit card insurance is no good and does not cover a service where an owner is renting their car. Turo is a proven app and you can pay the insurance as part of the rental.

The Enterprise website says they rent Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan or similar. You could contact the one in Lake Sumter Landing & see if they have any available.

I don’t blame you for wanting to rent a Tesla. We recently came back from California where there are Teslas everywhere. My son-in-law just bought a brand new one, and we sat in the back and it was so roomy and comfortable and above all quiet. Have you tried enterprise rental? The good thing about that is they will come to you so you don’t have to go get it.

I am really interested in purchasing an EV, the only reservation I have is every article I read claims battery improvements are just around the corner.
With my luck the car I purchase will be obsolete before I drive it off the lot.

We get a little over 4 miles per kWh in our model 3 and here in TV we are paying a little under 13 cents. So 25kWh to go 100 miles or $3.25....or about the price of 1 gallon of gas. That's the math dude!
(charging at night doesn't impact the grid at all)
It cost us $38K...and then Joe Biden gave us $7500 back on our taxes so just over $30K....toyota camry price
So...cheaper to run, not particularly expensive to buy, those are the facts.
As for the OP....I think it might be tough to find a private party to rent a car to drive to Orlando. But if you wanna go for a ride sometime and drive it on a "normal" road (i.e. not horrible traffic) shoot me a note and we'll do it!

I own a Model 3 and would NEVER let anyone borrow it . I won’t even use valet parking if I’m driving the Tesla.
There is NO WAY I would recommend that you rent a Tesla just so that you can take a “test drive” while going into and back from the Orlando Airport !
The traffic is HORRIFIC and learning how to drive a Tesla in and out of Orlando Airport would not be a good choice ! I know you said that you test drive one but …….
Save yourself $$$ and potential aggravation and hire a private car service such as Dave’s Airport Transportation.
Whatever service you choose , be advised that you’ll need plenty of advance time to book such a service and this time of year, a 2 week window is not going to cut it, specially since we’re in the beginning of the “snowbird” season .

I was told by Hertz that EVs need to be returned with at least 80% charge remaining or else you pay a fee (like the high price per gallon that you will pay when returning with less than a full tank when you don’t prepay for the fuel). Just something to consider in your evaluation.

This is a blatantly false statement. The cost of charging an EV is almost always hundreds of dollars less a year than operating an equivalent gas-powered vehicle, according to a new report from Consumer Reports. Additionally your original brakes will likely last for the life of the car (unless you are a very aggressive driver), you don't have to pay for oil changes or transmission repair, etc., etc.
Perhaps you don't understand how they work, I do however, I've had an EV for 9.5 years.
Your statement is not true and folks reading this deserve truthful information.

Hertz hurts with too many Teslas right now. Good idea to get some early first hand experience. You may also want to get a car insurance quote before you purchase.

I’m the OP. Thx all for the input.
Ended up with a Hertz reserv for a Model 3 at Spanish Springs location. 3 days for $175, can cancel anytime B4 with no charge.
As mentioned we HAVE driven a new Tesla Model 3 a few months ago at the Tesla store in Orl. So we DO know how to drive them. And we plan to order a new one, the ‘24 model when it comes out in Jan or so. We’d like to get more drive time with the current model so it’s a bonus to be able to pick up our guest from MCO and use it around TV for a few days here. And bottom line the rental cost is about the same as a private RT car service. But we can use the Tesla, so a bonus.
Turo was out as no cars were close by.
And I KNEW this Thread would go down the ‘gas vs EV’ route yada….

We were at about $1200/yr on our 2017 chrysler pacifica and ended up at about $1700/yr on the model 3 standard range rear wheel drive. Performance would be a little more. So what we save in gas we spend in insurance. Hoping we have Tesla insurance someday...but for now it's more to insure them.

So true. There will always be Haters no matter the topic. And falsehoods abound.
When we get our ‘24 Model 3 we will charge inside our garage for loose change. And always have a “full tank” every morning. And if traveling the Tesla charging network is the very best country wide. Which is why almost all of the legacy car makers that make EVs made a deal with Tesla to use many of their Chargers. More profit for Tesla…. Can’t wait get get ours…. BTW very soon the Clermont Tesla Store and Service Center will be open, near their new Costco.
